  • I don’t get why they get so upset when they collide and always help each other up... they’re literally fighting with swords... it’d be weird if there wasn’t a bit of roughhousing, no? I mean they’re not playing checkers...

    @TheRausing1@TheRausing12 жыл бұрын
    • It's written in the rules of fencing that a certain level of body contact warrants halting of play and penalties in some cases where body contact is ruled to be intentional. If rules don't allow certain things you play with the expectation that you'll be protected from those certain things, hence their reaction.

  • It sort of saddens me that fencing has lost this respect that you're fighting with swords. I understand the safety, but I wish that there was a type of fencing that didn't just have opponents slamming into one another and instead treated the sport with more grace. I guess it's easy for me to say that since I'm just watching, but it's so awkward, not graceful, and certainly not what the original fencers had in mind for their sport.

    @tillkrieger1048@tillkrieger10482 жыл бұрын
    • Original fencers were just people with swords trying to kill each other for women… I think it’s gotten quite a bit more graceful since then

    • People didn’t fence with more grace because they respect it more, they fence like that because a wrong move can end your life/career on the spot. When you stop putting irreversible damage on the line and make it all about scoring points you bet people will start gaming it. HEMA is only really “authentic” because it’s still relatively undeveloped and is more a martial art than a sport.
