Helicopter to the Formula 1 - Inside the Cockpit flying into the Worlds Busiest Heliport
Welcome Back! 😁🚁
Join me flying the EC155 Helicopter flying to the Silverstone F1 Grand Prix. A short flight departing a private site to drop off passengers to watch the Formula 1. Lots of traffic and local procedures to contend with.
2010 EC155B1 Helicopter. With a maximum takeoff weight of 4920kg, its powered by 2 x Turbomeca Arriel 2C2 turbine engines. At just over 14m long this version has the capacity to carry 8 passengers in the cabin.

Unfortunately you can no longer park at Silverstone to watch the Formula 1 race, so it was an empty departure back to base to watch it on the TV! Max Verstappen came 1st in the end (as usual!).
Enjoy! 😎
That sequenced departure was one of coolest things I've seen for a while. Keep the vids coming!
It was pretty special to watch! 😎🚁
Agreed! That was pretty awesome!
How come they all left at the same time?
This has got to be one of the best helicopter videos I've seen on youtube and I have watched hundreds of them
Thank you so much! Awesome to hear! 😎🚁
Take a look at mine too if you want 😊
I literally said the exact same to myself
I agree as well, no cuts well explained THE COOLEST FREAKIN FLIGHT I mean cmon, VIPs to the f1 race?! I was also fascinated by how the racetrack had an airspace and lil heliport, so badass
This is a great video no doubt I have as well a small channel myself as a pilot if you would like to take a look 😀 😉
Wow, that controller is a pro!
These guys are at the top of the game! 😎
Not sure now, but they used to use off duty Heathrow tower controllers.
Sounds very much like Kev, normally found at Southend. He is indeed a legend!
The multiple take-offs' was pretty cool, just seeing the different styles of launching.
It was epic from where I was sitting! For the first time I was happy to be at the back of the queue! 😎🚁
I'm breathless at your skill and professionalism.
Thanks so much Alan! 😁👍
@@richardtyrerthink Alan wants it
That sequence with all crafts just hovering in line was so cool!
It was pretty special! For the first time I was happy to be at the back of the queue! 😎🚁
Also +1 for F1
I don't even like helicopters, but I couldn't stop watching.
I love how the blade RPM and frame rate match up to give us the image of the blade in flight like it's stopped....great view of the amazing mechanical wonder of high performance helicopters.
Wow, I've never met a heli pilot that isn't extremely good at what they do. When I did my theory of flight exam, the instructor said fixed wing is easy, he had 250 slides of powerpoint with 1 slide attributed to helicopters, it was titled 5 words, 'Magic'.
This is why I pay for KZhead premium over netflix now. What extraordinary content, and what a pro 🤯🤝
Thanks so much! It's great to share these experiences! 😎🚁
So far, we've seen you fly the DA42, a TBM940, a Phenom 300, and now a EC155. 😃 And I'm now starting to ask myself : (Is there anything that man CAN'T fly??)Oo. 🤔😳😉👍
If it flies, I'll take it! 😁
which ratings do you have?@@richardtyrer
Michael de Santa IRL
Ye it's very impressive, cool to see you fly at my local airport EGTB as well. I did work experience at Heli Air, I'm a software engineer now though.
I'm wondering if there's anything he's not rated on! :p
stunning video, incredibly smooth flying and radio comms, could watch you fly all day
Wow! This is why I love YT, it enables us to see 'behind the scenes' whilst highly skilled ppl do their jobs/hobbies. From an amateur flight simmer, that was incredible to watch, thank you for uploading. The level of skill and focus to be able to not just fly a helicopter, but also operate in such a busy environment blows my mind! 🤯👏👍
Thanks so much! It's great to share my little world! I'm lucky I have done this event a few times so I knew what to expect..... I was so nervous my first time years back in a little 4 seater! It might be a little difficult to recreate this on flight sim tho! 😎🚁
Loved the video. I’ve had the opportunity to be in the back seats, flying in and out of the Silverstone GP, and it was a truly amazing experience. I was in awe of the choreography of the pilots coming into, and leaving the helipads. To see it from the front seats 👌
fantastic how you are so calm mate, super impressive , very talented man you be
Another great video Rich, genuinely looking forward to the next one 👊🏻
This was awesome! I am yet to do my first lesson in a Cabri G2 but I love this stuff! Bravo 👏🏼
Absolutely superb flying hats off to you Sir 👍👍
The ending was the best. That was wicked badass.
Footage, perfect frame-rate, 360-panning... not to mention the perfect flying. Richard, soon you'll be the most watched pilot-blogger on the planet.
that staggered takeoff was so sick! never seen that before
Another great video, and again, very informative throughout the entire flight. Looking forward to the next one.
Thanks so much! Next one in the pipeline! 😁👍
Now that's the way to go to the track! Fun video, well done.
Started my career flying VVIP in EU/FRG some 35 years ago .. sure has gotten more efficient and enjoyable with GPS, TCAS & moving map. Love how they simplified the callsigns with colors and was good to hear QSY used for brevity (I kept using it around the world but no ATC in USA knows Q code or what that means anymore) ... great video.
The non-chalant Flex of Mr Richard heading out for a casual drive in the ol' backyard EC155 to Silverstone 😅 Cheers for the video 👍
That departure was impressive to see. Always looking forward to your videos Richard.
It was incredible to sit there and watch it unfold! Thanks so much, more to come! 😎🚁
Excellent flying! Thanks for taking us along.
Anytime! 😎🚁
This was fascinating. Thanks for sharing. I miss flying.
Everytime I watch a helicopter video I am reminded of the Summer of 76 which I spent flying all over the UK loading people for 90 second pleasure flights at big shows. Much of the time I was piloted by the late, great Dick Meston #goodolddays
I've been there! Great memories and a good laugh loading! 😎🚁
@@richardtyrer I can still remember the 206 tail numbers: G-BBFE, our workhorse, no frills and lightest 206. G-AVTE, our 206 with popouts, so hard to stop passengers standing on them and G-AYMX, our heaviest VIP 206. Church Fenton Airshow was the event when all three were used simultaneously 😎
Fixed wing private pilot here - no idea what happened in this video!
Definitely worth the eight month wait! Thanks for sharing!
Fantastic video. Very well presented and shot, thank you so much for sharing this with us!
Thanks so much! Anytime, more to come 😎🚁
Most impressive.. Still can’t help but feel your extremely vulnerable in a helicopter. Only one way down! Full respect to all pilots 👊
Honestly I feel more comfortable in a helicopter (still where most my experience is!). If there is a problem, you can slow it down and sort it out..... or just land! 😎🚁
@@richardtyrerI used to think the same until I read about auto-rotation!
Same low key. Esp after the Kobe incident. And then the Marines helicopter a few weeks ago 😬
@@hangandrew so true.. both appear to have been at night, in low visibility, and mountainous terrain. A challenge for even the most experienced pilots. Any 2 of those and I'd rather sit it out, than get on a GA flight...
Impressive…..very impressive, so calm and collected…..👍👌🇮🇲
Always a pleasure to fly with you Richard , Another great video very interesting thank you .
Anytime! Thank you so much! 😎🚁
Excellent video! Very impressive skills! So so envious. The multiple take offs was the best I have seen.
just brilliant
It was really special from where I was sitting! For once I was glad to be at the back of the queue! 😎🚁
Always dreamt of flying a heli. Watching that was so cool. Well done.
It's an epic thing that everyone should try once! Thanks so much! 😎🚁
Living the dream ! Well done ..
I could have watched this continue for hours, great video Richard,
Thanks so much Josh! It's a pleasure to share these ones! 😎🚁
Hi Richard glad to see you back always enjoy your videos look forward to your next one. Paul on Kent
Thanks so much Paul! Promise it won't be as long for the next one! 😎👍
Great & clear video with audio, thank you for uploading. In Cape Town (V&A Waterfront) we have three companies operating from 4 heli-pads each, in season there are between 8 to 11 machines at any given time in operation, just without any form of traffic control. We simply communicate on the local frequency to make sure who is on finals to land or about to take off. Surely it must be the busiest heliport in the world too, just in the Southern Hemisphere side of the globe. 😉🚁
Cracking video, really entertaining. Your co-Pilot sounded like she was singing her replies. Very good 👍
Awesome video! You're so smooth! Well done!
Thanks so much! It's great to share 😎🚁
Now, that was cool! Impressive!
Very cool insight into operations - thanks for sharing.
Anytime! 😎🚁
Great video again Richard, thank you.
Thanks so much! 😎👍
An all-around beautiful flight!
Thanks so much! 😎🚁
Richard glad to see you back, great video as always.
Promise it won't be as long for the next one! Thanks! 😎🚁
You live the absolute dream 💪 Inspiring stuff!
Thanks! It's hectic but really good fun! 😎🚁
Wow - what a sight, cool post Richard!
It's great to share! 😎🚁
Probably the best aviation video I’ve watched on KZhead - excellent 👏🏻
Thanks so much Dan! 😎🚁
From a controller at Miami Center in the states, that man was top-notch!
Thanks so much! Happy vectoring!
Welcome back, your hibernation is over...another superb video... many thanks
It was about time! Thanks so much! 😎👍
What a fascinating video! Thanks for making it! Very interesting to see how the controller handled the departures 👏🏻
The guys in ATC are on the top of their game here! It was a pleasure to be a part of! 😎🚁
Great video.. Closest I can come to this was doing RRR at Turweston a few years back for the F1 weekend.
Another great video Richard! Really enjoyed this one! I got my CPL(H) at the start of this year and currently have 220 hours wondering what the hell to do next, so hopefully I can follow in your footsteps eventually!
Man that was soooo cool! What a job!!!
Love your videos Richard! One of the best heli videos I’ve watched
Thanks so much Harry! 😎🚁
Mister Tyrer whe need more of this. im loving this
Thanks so much! More to come! 😎🚁
That was sooooo smooth. Well done!
Thanks so much! 😎🚁
Great video, that formation departure was really cool!
Thanks so much! It was really cool from where I was sitting! 😎🚁
Have to say from a fellow whirly driver - great video, great comentary. We all do it in our heads so why not speak it out. Pleasant to watch how you handled a heavy workload with ease. The AP & the radio stacks woudl have helped to lesson that workload. keep safe and fly the numbers.
Golfed a round on the Friday, did a lap in a Heli from here on Saturday, Race Sunday. camped Thursday - Monday. Just epic weekend!
Brilliant, great Video, helicopters are fascinating, amazing machines ❤
Thank you! I'm so lucky to be flying them! 😎👍
Excellent video thankyou for sharing it!
Thanks! Anytime 😎🚁
What a pro. Thank you.
Thanks so much! 😎🚁
being a paramotor pilot and absolutely terrified by your air shredder i am shocked how little the turbulence influencing each other of you guys there hovering. makes me realize how vulnerable we are with our little backpack fan and a bed sheet above the head. even normal turbulence can cause a crash for us while you sitting there with 5 others barely moving. very impressive. i was expecting alot more shaking next to hovering helis
Never heard the term air shredder before! I’ll remember that! You do get a bit of turbulence when we are all hovering next to each other, but the camera stabilisation removes it! I can’t turn it off otherwise the rest of the video would be rubbish! 😎🚁
@@richardtyrercheers for answer! haha yes i call them like that because air is bad even minutes after heli is gone. i saw a guy here flew into the down wash from a small heli which was already gone 2 minutes and he took a massive collapse from that. if i see one nearby me i land asap and hold onto my wing. yes dont turn off stabilization. we are too fragile! thanks for clearing that up. i thought you cant hover so close to each other
This is amazing love the flying!
Thank you! 😎👍
That departure in sequence was epic and even our boy Richy T here had to call that out 😎
It was pretty special to watch! For once I was happy to be at the back of the queue! 😎🚁
World's busiest commercial heliport: Aberdeen Airport handles more than 37,000 rotary wing movements carrying around 468,000 passengers annually. I flew offshore here for 21 years. Now I fly out of Denmark....still to the North Sea! Happy Flying!!
Indeed, I spent a good part of my career based at Aberdeen, lots of happy memories! Silverstone is busiest for the F1 weekend only, as a year round airport/heliport Aberdeen surly wins! Just couldn't find a title to fit all of that in! Safe travels, I always have a soft spot for the North Sea! 😎🚁
really freaking cool, thanks for uploading!!
Thanks so much! Anytime! 😎🚁
@@richardtyrer aww thanks for the reply man, just started checking out your channel more - wow you are quite the aviator, and all great content! you got my sub man, much love! stay safe brother and keep inspiring us from afar :)
would love to see more videos like this,
As many have mentioned…that sequence of departures was rather good. I’m used to seeing a good formation flight haha. 😎🚁 Great work with this video too. 👏🏻
Thanks! For once I was glad to be at the back of the queue for departure, it was pretty special from where I was sitting! 😎🚁
This is awesome. Watched some of @HeavyDSparks Dauphin and Blackhawk videos and KZhead suggested your video. More of the EC155 please!
Really cool video, thanks for sharing! 👍🏻
Anytime! Thanks so much! 😎🚁
That was brilliant , you made it look easy .
Thanks so much! The helicopter is a great platform and does most the hard work. It's great to share it! 😎🚁
I flew into Silverstone for F1 about 10 years ago was very fun
It's an epic experience. A bucket list for aviation! 😎🚁
Awesome, nice smooth flight Richard.
Thanks so much 😎👍
Awesome, thanks so much for the video.
Anytime! It's good fun to share them! 😎🚁
Glad you're back!
Good to be back! 😎
My god Richard are you licensed to fly anything that goes in the air 😂 I'm half expecting to see you flying the Omnithopter from Dune next. Amazing video as always sir. Thanks for the content
Just echo the comments of others. Very cool video and loved the departure choregraphy. Also love the autopilot on that helo you were flying. They have got so incredibly advanced.
Thanks so much! The autopilot on this is great, but believe it or not it's an old system. You should see the tricks that the new ones can do! 😎🚁
So good to have you back - Amazing vid!!!!!!
Thanks so much! It's good to be back! 😎🚁
Genuinely the best helicopter video I’ve watched!! Please do more!!!
Thanks so much! Will do! 😎🚁
Phenomenal work by yourself and the controller, and great content, love it. Quick question if that okay, how are the callsigns allocated?
Used to be alot busier when they used to land on the infield before the wing was built. Still strikes me as impressive watch all you guys coming in as over the last 25yrs ive worked at the gp
I know, it's a shame it has changed! Still it's my favourite event of the year! 😎🚁
That was awesome
You have a nice portfolio of type ratings :) Can't wait to see what you will bring us on next
Watch this space! 😎👍
Impressive operation!
They are super slick! 😎🚁
Fabulous as always Richard
Thanks so much! Sorry it’s been a while! 😎🚁
@@richardtyrer it has been a while, not sure which I prefer the most helicopters or your plane ✈️
Awesome stuff to watch !
Epic. Thanks so much! 😎🚁
Great video and very professional conduct by all involved. Will subscribe now!
Thanks so much! The whole Silverstone team work really hard and it runs really well! 😎🚁
really cool stuff
Good to see you back with us
Good to be back! 😎🚁
Great video that brings back happy memories- I flew into Silverstone in the mid-nineties in 76s. However, I also have quite a bit of 155 time, and I have never heard (or prescribed) checking the torques are matched. A) you have an FLI and, B) the FADECs are matching the N1s! Airbus/Eurocopter/Aerospatiale have always used N1 matching.
Great video bud!!
Great Video Bud ❤️❤️Looks fantastic being dropped off in Helicopter 👍👍
Thanks so much! 😎🚁
🎶 He's a smooth operator.... 🎶
10:43 BlackBlack Zero ...... I flew it once in an EC120, great fun. On departure I was underflown by a blackblack guy who then climbed up infront of me. It's very busy! I was ChequerChequer something.
Great video
