Try florocarbon. Its like mono but better in every way.
I prefer whichever is less likely to snap my line & lose a good catch.
You can feels the bites more with the braid but I agree I prefer mono.
Same. Always mono on the beach with an Alvie reel on the big rod and mono on the 12 foot carbon estuary rig.
i just use braid tied to mono as shock leader like 3 rod distance's
I actually prefer braided because it doesn't stretch, it lends a sensitivity to the fight that I miss with mono. To each their own!
For me too Roger. Always Mono. I like the stretch.
The sollution to braid is a longer rod wich negates a lot of the no stretch when using braid. It's that simple. Braid also cut a lot better through the air and the water.
Mono for casting. Braid for vertical fishing from a boat with bait or jigs.
I love braid, i use it Surf Fishing and catch some monster salmon and snapper.
Ok but have you seen how beautiful those clouds are? 😍😍😍
Try braid with a 25-50 foot mono top shot for your type of fishing.
I use braid with a 15 foot mono leader.......best of both worlds ;-)
Which knot do you prefer with a leader that long? It seems no matter what braid to leader knot I try it breaks off every, and I do mean every, cast. I've donated 4 lures to the ocean with braid to leader knots and I'm about set to give up honestly. Not give up on fishing, but braid to leader knots!
@@danielhutton3858 l use either FG or FC knots, haven't failed me yet.
@@nobodyhome8148 that may be where I'm going wrong. Need to knuckle down on learning the FG. Albright, double double uni and some teency mystery knot have all failed me in rather soul crushing fashion haha
Nice rod !
I do like braid when fishing for smaller fish ie bream ,Redfin , yellow belly , if using the squidgy or gulp fishing lures , I like the instant bite feel for that reason but yep mono still great stuff and I use it to.
that’s a stonker 👏
I know you feel but I like it because I am a huge long tail tuna fisherman and when I hooked a 20kg longie I like to have that rigidness to turn its head
Okay, I understand James
feeling bites and dealing with wind and waves so much better with light braid agree with others decent length leader to provide some stretch.
Easy fix. Use mono or fluro hitched onto the braid as a long leader. FG or SC knot. Takes a while to learn, but very effective.
biggest reason i use braid is that it doesn't have memory like mono does
3m mono shock leader. Best of both worlds
Each has their place, you gotta think of them as tools. Braid is superior to mono when deep water bottom fishing. In 600’ or more feet of water, with mono you’ll have to use twice as much weight to get to the bottom and you can’t feel bites like can with braid. Trolling planers offshore, braid is better because it cuts through the water and you can trip the planer when you need to. For regular offshore trolling, mono is far superior to braid. Mono stretches which acts like a shock absorber which prevents hook pulls and lost fish. Plus in waters where multiple trolling hookups are common, braid is a nightmare. It cuts anything it comes in contact with and is virtually impossible to get untangled if it wraps up with other lines. In surf fishing or any fishing that there is a lot of constant casting, mono is better, unless of course you’re casting lures to large tuna or fish of that size, and even then it isn’t a matter of braid being better, it’s a matter of mono above 30 lb isn’t really cast able and on really large fish you need the line capacity afforded by braid. Like I said at the beginning, you gotta think of them as tools as each has its place and uses.
Salmon missing low part of its tail
Yes... Roger.. I'm on the same boat about braid. Mono man for me too 😊
It's mainly good for lure fishing
Love the subtle ichthys fish in your logo Rog!! 🐟 Well played
That's mad I literally asked this question within the last couple weeks to you Roger. THANK YOU!
Typical size for a west Aussie salmon we handle them beautifully on braid
I am sure braid works OK, I just find it much more rigid than mono. In W.A it would help with strong currents
If you used a proper leader you wouldn't have that problem. I'm not referring to the line between your swivel and your hook. Using 2m of fluorocarbon leader between your braid and rig will give you plenty of stretch.
Monster from the deep
Hi Roger, what brand of braided line have you used? I know firsthand it can't be Australian made line. Braided line is floppy, unlike mono, which holds straight. I await your reply. Cheers
Shimano Kairiki braid
I think it depends on what you're used to. I used mono for forty odd years and still use it for my ultra light gear but I use braid for my heavy gear. I do have a 7 foot rod wth a 2500 and 8lb braid for those times where there's a chance of hooking something bigger than expected. I also like throwing heavy lures on that rod.
Up in the Northeast (NY), if you are a surf fisherman and don't use braid , you will be escorted off the beach immediatly
The skill needed to pull in that size on Braid and the water conditions, expert
🎣 I have mono/nylon line on all of my reels, I am satisfied with that, 🎣
Only tackle companies benefit from braided line..:::it sux and is 100 percent unnecessary
What was that fish?
