How to set up and connect a power amplifier in bridge mode

Another video that expands on my 'how to connect a power amplifier' video, this segment explores the use of bridge mode in power amplifiers: what exactly is bridge mode, and how does it differ from stereo and parallel modes? This video covers the advantages and disadvantages of bridging a power amplifier, how to set up the amplifier in this mode and how to connect loudspeakers, including the special cabling that may be needed.
Remember! A power amplifier in bridge mode is capable of producing thousands of watts - it is your responsibility to ensure that your loudspeaker can handle this power. Be careful!
How to connect a power amplifier to passive speakers: • How to connect a power...
A step by step guide to matching speakers and power amplifiers: • How to correctly match...

  • Splendidly clear explanations without pointless repetitions or not needed information to confuse people with less knowledge. Was just trying to find some insight into bridging with speakon cables. I found out my amplifiers use the one where you need to reroute the wires, so will be using an adapter in the end of the cables when I need to bridge the amplifiers for larger setups. Subbed and hope to see more great videos like this in the future.

    • Thanks for watching! Another method for amps that are permanently rack mounted is to bring the amp outputs out to panel mount speakon connectors - you would have one each for channels A and B, and one more for bridge mode, wired to the binding post outputs. • Thank you very much. It's very difficult connecting amps and speakers with someone who has never worked with sound system gear who thinks they know it all. This video, if he pays attention and doesn't get me all mixed up, will show him what I've been trying to tell him all along. I had never worked with speakon cabling before and that is what we have now and you have taught me a tremendous, invaluable amount of knowledge concerning the use of these cables. This has probably cost my friend, I know it all, tons of money. He has blown amps, speakers, tweeters...and the list goes on. Especially if I still can't get him to listen to you, me or anybody. Thanks again.

  • Hi, this is a great video, has helped me out so much with understanding. I have 3 questions for you. Im trying to power 2 RCF S8018 8ohm 1000w subs with my Brooke Xpro3000. Im Trying to figure out if it would be best to run them in stereo which will give 1000w rms or bridge which will give me 3000w rms? Secondly when i bridge the amp am i right in saying it gives me 3000w at 16ohm for 1 speaker but if i link my second to the 1st it will give me 1500w per speaker at 8ohms? Lastly, would i then reduce the output level or keep it at full? Hope you can help, God Bless Tim

    • Hello Tim nice to hear from you. Stereo or bridged depends on whether you need stereo and also whether your amp can be bridged into a 4-ohm load. In terms of power you need to check what power your amp delivers when bridged into 4 ohms and divide that by two to give the power to each speaker. Output level depends on how much volume you need in the venue and your system processor settings, if any.
