Rome, Italy, is one of Europe’s top tourist destinations, filled with incredible ancient ruins, beautiful monuments and delicious food. Most people don’t experience true Roman life in Rome, sticking to the well trodden tourist path, when in Rome however, it truly pays to do as the Romans do, so I hope this video is helpful for those who want to appreciate the true essence of Rome! I show you how to breakfast like a Roman by starting the day off with cappucino and cornetto at a local Roman cafe, I also try some of the famous Roman pastas like cacio e pepe and pasta alla gricia at small local Roman trattorias. When in Rome a visit to the market is a must, I buy some fresh produce and take it to the beautiful villa doria pamphili for a roman picnic. I also show you how best to enjoy Rome's majestic ancient monuments like the Spanish Steps, Trevi fountain, and pantheon, at night when the streets are empty!

  • My city of birth, but for economic reasons my family emigrated to Australia, and very grateful but now that I’m nearly 50, everything in me wants to return to Rome and reclaim myself. You’re vid just put a lump in my throat.

  • I’m italian, I have lived in Rome for 10 years now, and I can definitely say you captured the true roman spirit in this video. I know how difficult it is for people born in other countries (especially USA) to guess or understand our kind of life because when you see Italy in tv or movies is often from an american point of view of view (like american directors, writers and productions), that is usually very romanticized. But this…this is the true Rome.

    • We have a layover in Rome airport at night time for 9 hours. Is it safe to travel Rome at night time ??? Please advise. Our flight is at morning 4 am from Rome

      @ganeshr4371@ganeshr43715 ай бұрын
    • @@ganeshr4371 mmh Rome is a pretty safe place but if you are a woman alone, maybe I wouldn’t recommend to leave the airport and visit the city at night. If you are a man or a group of people and you don’t want to waste 9 hours in the airport, you could take a train or a bus and visit the city. Of course, you should stay always vigilant for pickpockets. I recommend to keep the wallet and documents in the most hidden pocket you have on yourself (not in your bag or backpack). Take in mind that there aren’t a lot of bus at night and that the underground is closed so, once you’re in the city, you may need to walk a lot to move around. Depending on what airport are you traveling from, consider with care the time you will need to return there. Other than that, you should be fine.

  • As a Roman citizen, I have appreciated your video very much. I believe that it gives quite an accurate view of the spirit of the city. Of course, it does so from the point of view of a person with much spare time… and very, very hungry! :)) However, each single thing is true, although we don’t do all that stuff on our typical day: we also have a job! ;) But it’s true: I often go biking or jogging at Parco degli Acquedotti, I do stroll within the center during nights, I do eat a slice of pizza or a supplì while seating on the steps of a fountain, I do like a gelato at 5pm, I do like having an aperitivo, I do like having dinner in an osteria or in a pizzeria… As a suggestion for incoming people interested in the real city: get a B&B outside the historical center, for example along the subway line A or B. Cheers

  • If you want to appreciate Rome as it was in the late 1950s (when life was much slower than it is nowadays), I suggest the movie "Three Coins in a Fountain", in gorgeous colour and starring great-looking movie stars, with Frank Sinatra singing the signature tune. When you hear him singing it in his inimitable voice, you'll be filled with nostalgia. "Three coins in a fountain, each one seeking happiness..."

I reccomend tourists to see the monuments and museums, but also to just hang around in the centre, in the morning if you wanted immerse yourself in the chaotic, crowded, noisy city or early in the morning or at night ig you wanted Rome touch your soul. Kudos from Rome ❤

  • This video is a concentrate of truth, that's the best way to extract the real life of a population, just speaking with the locals, and I strongly believe we should do that all the time we travel, look for some patient people that can have a quick conversation to understand better the place you are visiting. Great job as usual Angelica.

  • Hi Malini, my favourite suburb to eat in Rome, is in Largo di Torre Argentina (Piazza Argentina). Outside of peak season, I would never see to many western tourists in the evening. The Piazza would be filled with Roman families enjoying Italian food. Some say France is the country of great food, for me Italy wins hands down. Rome is amazing, Italia is amazing, especially, the simply stunning, Positano and the Amalfi coast. Thank you for reminding me of the great times to be had in Bella Italia.
