Unexpected food aggression in my dog. German Shepherd Nika and Malinois Linda eat bones.

My dogs are part of my family... German Shepherd Nick is six years old, Malinois Linda is four years old. In all these years my dogs have never shown food aggression towards me. But this time, something went wrong. I wasn't scared, I was rather surprised. Perhaps this aggressive behavior is due to the fact that at the moment Nika has estrus... For the growling and anger of the dog 🐊, in no case should you punish it by using physical force - this can provoke more aggressiveness in the future. To correct this behavior of the dog, it is necessary to give commands to the pet during the meal - “Sit” before putting down the bowl, “Wait” before allowing the animal to eat, and “You can” if the dog behaves calmly.

    • She would have felt guilty if she had bitten you, I'm glad she didn't. I have always hand fed my Malinois boys. For Drexel, I hold his food bowl for both meals and always help him choose!! Never have either ever been aggressive!! I've seen many dogs out down in shelters because they are food aggressive, and that's just NOT right!! After all, when you're eating no one sticks their hand in your plate!! All dogs are different, but it still hurts your feelings if your own dog shows aggression!! ❤❤

    • This happened for the first time in seven years... And it never happened again. I think this is due to the fact that Nika was in heat at its peak.

    • Она Очень ревнивая :))) это явно заметно, но рычать на папку ? В этот раз не стал усугублять , списал на течку. НО с подобным поведением нужно "бороться" , исправлять.

  • Good morning, Alexander - I watched this video yesterday and again today. Very interesting study with the two different reactions between Niki and Linda. I always learn something from watching your videos. Hot where I live in Florida, 95 to100 F. at midday, and I have to walk my German Shepherd Jenny, either very early in the morning or late in the evening after the sun sets.     • Hi, Richard. I am very glad that you are with me ... Your country has provided us with invaluable support and assistance, I will not tire of thanking the people of the United States for this !!! This situation with Nika surprised me myself, this happened for the first time in six years. In my situation, this is unacceptable, I must remain the leader in the pack! Otherwise Nika will start actively offending (fighting) the younger dog Linda. I've already taken up preventive "lessons".

    • Немка в своих эмоциях и настроениях очень схожа с людьми :) ревнивая до ужаса , не дай Бог погладишь Линду а не ее . К тому же она Альфа в стае , Бельгийка моя добрая и не оспаривает первенство. Такое рычание на меня - произошло впервые ! Именно поэтому я начал съемку :) ругать , исправлять эту ситуацию не стал , возможно зря!? Но я списал это поведение на течку , десятый день , она в этот период очень "не спокойная"

    • Привет. Уже разобрался :) тут причина - десятый день течки, она и Линде прохода не давала в эти несколько дней. После этого в пасть ей "за лазил" :) ноль эмоций.

  • Hi there, from the USA. I was sad to see your shepherd display that. Like you said, since it was the first time it did that, it was really not normal. I love your recommendations to pet the dog during future meals. My German shepherd likes company during his meals. My seat at my dinner table is right next to where he eats. So, I reach over and pet and scratch him while he eats. Ha…he is the only dog that I know of that if he is eating beef in his food bowl, and I get up to leave that location, he would rather leave the beef and come see what adventure I am going to do. Mine has displayed food aggression once. A large piece of pork was on my dinner table, right next to where I was sitting. He was sitting on my lap ( yes…he is a lap dog and I occasionally let him sit there at my table). He knows not to sniff or take the food. But, he did on this occasion. Then he showed aggression when I tried to get it from him. So, I went to a different part of the room and called him over to me. Like you said, I did not punish him for this. It was behavior that he has never did before; and hasn’t did it since.

    • My dogs are my family. Already after this shooting, I checked Nicky's reaction several times, she no longer shows the slightest aggression! So this unpleasant incident can be attributed to her bad mood :), or to the fact that at that moment it was the tenth day of estrus

  • there is one rule , show him that food is coming from you its not his , but when you give it to the dog leave it alone dont try to take it this is breaking trust between you and dog

  • Hello my friend !!! Is it possible the dogs are feeling the tension of everything going on. ? After 10 yrs. I finally had to stop feeding skunks and racoons due to " aggression " between them. That is new behavior....probably due to loss of habitat. Hundreds of thousands of acres burned from 2018 to 2021. I hope you are " well " . I've been checking out yr area on Google.... Now I can worry about specifics. Take care You are not alone Ukraine is not alone Ukrainians are AMAZING VIVA UKRAINE

As to this " conflict " it Seems there are many countries watching....if the orc is allowed to complete his " conquest " other countries will feel They can freely do what They want. China / Taiwan for example. And folk ( FINALLY ) are wondering...if the orc succeeds where will he turn next. How large are his delusions of empire? I think he expected a quick " victory ".... your people are AMAZING !!! You just don't give up !!! How can you even keep such a huge enemy out ??!! But you have done it. It will protect itself from them with a huge fence, close forever any border checkpoints !!! It is a cesspool of.... Misinformation. Read there was Some concern @border of Belarus being so close but you have " natural borders " trees and such. I've been doing a lot of research , it indicated " stuff " is available but money is tight. Quite honestly that bit sounds like here....food prices have tripled over last two yrs and keeping shelves " filled " is a big challenge. We are not fighting a human enemy ( that is coming , we will be fighting in our yards. ) We are trying to adjust to MAJOR weather " assaults.. I believe the world's weather has changed forever. We are ... Getting ready for another crazy winter. I have left my generator out front and even left the cords I have attached. The government is trying to ban all gas using items ?, but they do not have the " alternatively places built yet The amount of fossil fuel machines to build solar/ wind farms is considerable .And there's another issue...in one of the last couple years in Texas during the winter the windmills FROZE. Why would I bring this up?? You are one of 53 international cities to become ??? Zero carbon emissions by 2030.   • First, no reason to bother any dog while eating UNLESS one grabs cooked chicken and scampers off, must get that away as the bones can force a major vet bill The GSD came as an adult or he was fed with others or prior owner did what you just did. Or you keep bothering him and now you have a complaint for your foolishness. The Malinois you've had as pup although she did try to avoid you so I know that you've dorked with her in the past FOR NO REASON. The typical Malinois runs sharp in some hard play or when injured. When I investigate a gimp leg, the moment I hit the pain spot, I get a brief, but real nip. Then put in soft muzzle to see exactly what I have. GSDs will do whine a quick cry but no nip. I hope this helps; have had many malinois, GSD, hounds over the years, and many tiny house dogs, plus more stuff. :)

    • I believe you - that you are an experienced person, that you are well versed in dogs... But in this case you are wrong. This German Shepherd has been in my family since she was two months old! All six years of her life I could calmly reach out to her food! This is normal... There must be trust. In this situation, I did not escalate the conflict, I am sure this aggression was because Nika was in heat...

    • If true, the problem is you what you touched upon: a lack of trust. These are inside the house dogs, not kennel dogs. Trust comes from constant care, around handler all the time, not locked in a damn kennel. The young Malinois immediately tried to hide from the handler when approaching. That comes from STUPID handling as in a teenage boy handler trying to provoke. I suspect the 'handler' KEPT food taken. Trust comes FROM gentle and thoughtful interactions, NOT TESTING FOR TRUST. How damn stupid can one be if you fail to understand the above sentence? Read it 100 times and if you fail to understand, on YOU. NOT me. Be advised I'm very much aware of this type of abuse. Worked training hundred of foolish police officers on just this problem. They sorted it out or I took the dog then charged the department/s for a new dog. I do note that you sense I'm know what I'm talking about, so you do have a taint of experience. Also, remember, Malinois are sharp, genetically thanks to the old timer Belgian breeders that understood exactly what I'm talking about in the above. Even with a trusted handler, the Mal will nip when in pain, his handler. That's what we want.

    • Hallo Petra. Nika hat mich überrascht ... Das ist in sechs Jahren noch nie passiert. Ich habe sie nicht beschimpft oder bestraft, aber mit einem solchen Verhalten könnte ich Probleme bekommen ... Ich werde diese Reaktion korrigieren.

  • А наша німецька вівчарка Ніка 2 так руки рвала 🙈 Мала Ніка 6 ( вестік) гадаю теж можє цапанути. Невважаючи на глибоку відданість до мене. А Ніка 7 ( немка) віддасть все як що не попросиш охороняти . Голден , та під настрій . Але рикає дай Божє.

    • @@malinoisLinda Коли моя мама була у віці 16 років , вона купила цуценя німецької вівчарки і дала ій імья Ніка . Це сталося після загибелі її вео Нипа. У 1998 , коли мені було 10 років ми купили цуценя від занарно- рудого кобеля і пісочного окрасу суки і дуже бажали щоб вона була схода на мамину Ніку чорно- чепрачну . Дали ій імья Ніка ( 2) Вона така і виросла . Розумна але дужє агресивна . Бебиком вона росла у лісі де мало людей, машин .. Вона встигла за свої 13 років життя покусати навіть начальника беркуту і місцевого дільничого. Який потім приносив ій смаколики . Ніка 3то її дитина . Ми її продали у віці 5 місяців . Ніка 4 це собака яка лишилась у сестри мого чоловіка . Ніка 5 це кішка вона живе з нами . Ніка 6 це моя , вестік, Ніка 7 це мамина немецька вівчарка і Ніка 8 живе в Україні . Це собака з притулку яку взяла собі сестра мужа та «назвала її правильно ». Всі Ніки Дужє розумні, жили / живуть довго та щасливо . На початку півномаштабноі мої приїхали з Харкова до Франціі з Нікой 5 , Нікой 7 і Моллі ( собака моєі доньки) . То зараз у нас три собаки і кішка.

    • Собаки похожи на нас , бывает плохое настроение :) "особые дни" :)) , уверен такого больше не повторится , если я ошибаюсь - тогда будем работать, подобное поведение неприемлемо.

  • Александр, зачем это делать? Это же издевательство над психикой собаки. Если уж дал, то это уже не твоё и не забирай. Это хорошо, когда собака защищает свою кость. Это говорит о нормальных рефлексах. Мой Малинуа вообще не проявляет ко мне и жене агрессию на еду, но кость, это особая вещь. Я уважаю его чувства и не лезу к нему, когда он её грызёт. Могу строго приказать ему и он выплюнет. Раньше у меня был питбуль, который вообще никак не реагировал и у него кто угодно мог забрать самую вкусную кость. Это даже раздражало, потому что собака не должна так себя вести. Собака всё таки хищник и с такими привычками в природе она не выживет.

    • От части я с вами согласен , только от части :) Мои собаки защищают еду друг от друга , но только не от меня , я думаю что так должно быть. За шесть лет Ника впервые в жизни зарычала на меня - когда я просто подошел близко... Меня это настолько удивило :) что я взял смартфон что бы снять процесс :) , уверен что дай я собаке Строгую команду - она бы подчинилась ! Но , вспомнил - у девочки "пик" течки (десятый день) , возможно причина в этом. Через неделю обязательно проверю , если повторится , то я буду корректировать это поведение! Считаю что "проводник" (не люблю слово хозяин) должен быть лидером , вожаком в стае , его "авторитет" = неприкасаемость, должны быть неоспоримы...

    • @@malinoisLinda То что авторитет лидера должен быть неприкасаем, это даже не обсуждается. Но уважать характер собаки тоже нужно. Если собака рычит, это нормально и она даже должна отдать хозяину кость. Это гораздо лучше, чем когда собака вообще бесхарактерная и каждый может с ней делать всё что угодно. Лично я рад, что мой пёс имеет такой характер. За то он кинется хоть на тигра, защищая свою семью.

    • Да :))) без контекста ролик выглядит как моя провокация без причин , у меня две собаки девочки , наши "социальные" роли - отношения , очень важны... Поймите Ника - альфа самка , я не снимал и не рассказывал никогда про их "разборки" с Линдой , драка девочек Гораздо опасней чем у кобелей ... Я обязан "держать их в узде" , быть в иерархии главным. :) надеюсь вы поняли ход моих мыслей

    • @@malinoisLinda Конечно понял. Мой тоже альфа-самец. Не выносит ни одного кобеля. Бросается в атаку независимо от их размера. Хоть болонка, хоть ротвеллер. И это не корректируется без уродования психики. . Только с возрастом должно пройти.

    • С мальчиками история отдельная , в борьбе с зооагрессией, действительно - главное не перестараться. Лучше всего помогает не коррекция а активная социализация , групповые занятия и.т.п.

    • J'étais absolument sûr qu'elle ne ferait pas ça... Nika a six ans, et c'est en fait la première fois de ma vie qu'elle grogne après moi. Je suis sûr que cela était dû au fait qu'elle était en chaleur, je l'ai vérifiée pour son agressivité après cet incident - cela ne s'est plus reproduit.

    • Cela s'est produit pour la première fois en sept ans !!! Plus tard, j'ai réalisé que cette agression était associée au pic de chaleur de ma Nika :) En règle générale, je peux toucher sa nourriture en toute sécurité.

    • Хозяин плохое слово :))) я ее папа , друг , брат . Немке шесть лет , такая ситуация у нас впервые ! Я сам удивился , но разбирательства и проверки оставил на потом. В данный момент у нее десятый день течки , возможно это совпадение... Но грубить не стоит.

Im notfall hast du keine Chance du musst hinlangen dürfen sonst hast du verloren. Ich glaube das Problem war auch du hast von oben auf ihre Beute/Futter gelangt das hat sie warscheinlich als Berdrohung empfunden das habe ich nie gemacht immer auf Augenhöhe und sofort bei geringem Ansatz dem Hund mitteilen ich bin der rudelführer
