Riding Out An Epic Blizzard. Overlanding Fail.
What a great overland adventure! This entire trip was a battle with the elements! We didn't have big enough tires; we probably should have had chains and my brake system had a total failure. This poor Toyota Tacoma is not holding up very well to all the wheeling I do lol. But honestly, this is exactly the kind of trip we dream about. We are seeking out places to snow wheel that will be challenging! Thank you, Ed, Nick and Tim, for such a great weekend, and thank you at home for watching! If you want to plan your own adventure like this, make sure you use good Offroad software like OnX so you can get home safe. Make sure you check out the perspective from Edward Shin @KrokemOutdoors

One of the most memorable snow camping trips yet! Thanks for the good times, buddy 👊
Yeah Nate! More Ed on the channel, this dudes got the right reasons and attitude to be out wheelin! Keep rockin all three of you bros!
I just got home and saw your video bro! Always outstanding 👏 👌 🙌
Oh man! Wish I could join you all! Looks like so much fun!
I agree, The story till now has good videos too!
Snow Wheelin' YES!! but snow wheelin' at night your guys are crazy 😯
Of all the popular 4x4 youtubers, Nate delivers the best quality videos.
Thanks for the huge compliment man 🙌. I'm honored
Trail Recon is very close.
Trail recon got caught in the KZhead blackhole and isn't anything close to how great nates stuff is. They started reviewing way to much stuff and buying and showing things 95% of the people on here can't afford to do. They used to be awesome, not so much anymore.
For sure, The Dirthead Shed is getting there quick too
@@bwofficial1776 Trail Recon does post good quality video, but Nate's stuff has a cinematic quality that I really appreciate.
That delica is sick. Always come to the elements over prepared.
I love Nick's Delica! Soooo rad
Can you do a video on the top 5 most common trail breakdowns you've seen, how to avoid them and how to fix them if they happen?
Good idea. Less skinny pedal will help avoid most trail breakdowns
Interesting idea 💡
u joints flat overheat broken driveshaft where it connects to axle pinion bent steering linkage
There is a class action lawsuit trying to take off against Toyota for the terrible rear brakes. They vibrate, and that’s what’s taking your wheel cylinder out. Also double check the pivot point of the shoes, they tend to come loose. I had to weld one back together to get functional brakes on a Taco.
Unique builds are the best builds. That Delica is sweet!
This is the type of adventure where it's great to have good friends with you! Otherwise that could of gotten a bit more sketchy. Glad to see you all made it out safe and with only a minor breakdown. Great video dude!
Nate! Dude I've got to say, this one left me with a massive grin on my face!!!. I was stationed in iceland for 2 years and got to take advantage of some very off rout site seeing!. I can relate to the snow fun and things going sideways! But without the benefit of trees... no trees in iceland. I truly envy your life style. San antonio had exactly NO offroad action. For someone like me, no Bueno at all!. Closest place is pay to play in marble falls. Glad I found your channel. I'm digging your builds! I myself started on dirt bikes and go cart as a kid. Later on an 88 2x4 pre-runner Ford ranger with a 4 banger and 33's took it everywhere I shouldn't! Then graduated to a full size 89 Eddie Baur bronco 5.0, yanked the sway bars while doing a 4" suspension lift in 1 weekend in my buddies navy hydraulics shop on base/on the flight line! Luckily we got it done before 7am Monday morning. That thing would go anywhere! Ran glaciers and all! Got involved in an international incident with the govt and got front page on the BBC. Luckily not my fault but I was part of it... I was part of a recovery team from base to rescue a group in the mts. The hh60's had too much bad weather to go up for the rescue. Icelandic rescue ended up dispatched in their Nissan diesels patrols on 44's. It was eventful! Next I had a 84 Nissan hard body in Germany. Got medically retired In 2007 now I'm here in San antonio. I've got a e99 4x4 Ford f350 crew cab longed with a steel utility bed on 35's 7.3 TD. My baby. I just acquired a 2006 jeep commander unlimited 5.7 hemi with quadradrive 2 . Love it. Only paid $3,200! In the prices of making it worthy...
Should have a weekly hour long show on Discovery or something for this quality! Also, the only reason I haven't built a Delica is they require a lot of maintenance to keep going.
Thank you!
I'm sure they have approached him and he said nah, I'll keep my creative freedom thank ya very much.
Worst Fear - 1. breaking down remotely 2. Breaking down in winter storm conditions
My co-worker's dad froze to death thinking he could walk to help and got lost.
Been stuck out a few times, once in the snow. It's just a matter of preparedness. If yer going into BFE, have food, water, fuel, etc, etc. Of the 3, the worst was in deep mud out in the desert with broken steering. THAT was pretty horrible.
no kidding!!
Nate you need to invest in a helical anchor. you can use an impact to screw the anchor into the snow pack, connect your winch line to it,and pull. Then unscrew the anchor once done.
Comment for algorithm. Snow is beautiful to look at but a pain to actually deal with. Glad you guys made it out fine.
Man, that looks like a good time!
I've been dying for some kind of off road adventure, but this? I'm glad to be a spectator!
The quality of these videos is OUTSTANDING. You are working your way into something big Nate. Keep up the awesome content
i've had that tire chains argument with people dozens of times. anymore, i just say whatever dude haha. lower pressure wins every time! chains only work on the ice.
True, unless you break thru to ground and it helps with some grip
Great vibes! Edward is the man 💯
Wow that Tacoma is a BEAST !
I couldn't agree more the diesel heater is a game changer for cold weather camping.
Even though it's cold it's still a fire video. Thank you for sharing big dog
this is the craziest thing I've ever seen ! I've never seen anything like this before ,the only time I've ever seen anyone snow wheel is when they had like 50 plus inch tires and they were just floating on top ,I've never seen anyone go up a mountain with little tires like that, looks fun & a little scary🤜🏼🤜🏼🤜🏼🤜🏼🤜🏼
That diesel heater is my top vote for the next rig gear mod video you plan for. The air compressor has been great, now let’s see what you can do with that heater.
This toyota has been pretty unreliable compared to your other rigs. Badass video! More delica footage!
Met a guy on a group trip this last summer with a 91 Delica, small lift on 31's and that thing did amazing on our trip. He didn't have the ground clearance most of us had but that just altered his line choice. What a great and unique platform for a build.
This is what we do almost every weekend over here in bend.. love it!
I've always had far more fun in the snow than in the mud. Easier to clean the truck off too. :-)
Yup, never been a fan of the mud. Sand and snow for me. Also that is mostly what we have around here. Neither get your clothes or inside or outside of the truck dirty.
this reminds me of snowmobiling in deep pow - constantly digging out your friends, and yet somehow still smiling
Ahhhh LOVE snow wheeling!
You asked "what would I you do..?" I would put on the cross country skis and go scout the mountain. Congratulations on an epic snow adventure!
That's is some Epic Snow Wheelin. You and your friends are awesome. Slogging it out.
Thanks man! I'm lucky to know such cool people
Just did a snow run today with friends. They had low slung SUV’s and I was in my 4Runner. But we all made it because of good attitudes. (And I have a winch and maxtrax, which makes me feel pretty confident out there)
No good story ever starts with "so, there we were, eating salad". Also, people who thought the Taco would bring down the quality of Nate's channel can't seriously still think that? Can they? Lol. Great video, Nate, keep em coming. Cheers 🍻
Thank you for the positive comment, my friend 🙌. No matter what rig I'm using I'm doing my best lol
That was one heck of an adventure
That morning cold start was even smokier than I remember!🤣
I love how the worse things get, the more you smile and laugh. Great story and fun looking trip.
We definitely have to do a snow run soon!
Bro, for sure. It looks like you guys getting some decent powder down there!
@@DirtLifestyle yeah quite a bit has come down in the last few days
Epic as always,!!! And having great friends to share it with! Thanks Nate
Crazy trip!! Bunch of great guys though….always makes things awesome. Great stuff as always🤘🏻
I absolutely love these videos man! Keep it going!!
Great off-road trip. Glad you made out well. Love the constant smile and light laughter along the way. Keeping it light and not get pent up is huge to surviving that world.
That was a serious SNOW ADVENTURE!!! Thanks for sharing.👏👏👍👍
I couldn’t agree more about your snow wheeling attitude!! It’s about the adventure!! Push on. Gotta have the right Gear. And Brakes. 🤘
Great video Nate! What an epic adventure that was. Cannot believe you lost a brake cylinder in the middle of a freaking snow storm!
What a stunning adventure bro! This is legend material!
Glad everyone was safe
What a great group of guys Love the positive attitude Great contact keep it coming Refreshing
Just awesome footage! I love it ! reminds me of offroading in northern Manitoba
Crazy day in the snow! We went up to elk camp and it can be a real struggle-amazes me that you do it for fun!
Great video Nate. 👍 I almost had to get a coat on to finish watching because it looked Sooo Cooooold!!!! ❄️🌬 but beautiful. Glad you guys made it home safely.
What you said in the beginning of the video is the most relatable thing I've heard in a while love your videos Nate!!! id love to go snow camping with you one day.
Love this vid. Simple and compelling all the way through.
I always look forward to Sunday morning dirt lifestyle vids!
Wow what an adventure. Feels like another planet to this Texan haha. And amazing video/cinematography as always Nate, this is one of the best channel on KZhead right now. 🤘
I'm up in North East Ohio not far from erie/ pa and buffalo/ NY. So we get all the lake effect snow too. I love to snow wheel in my suburban. I agree with everything you said in the beginning of the video.
I'd be looking forward to you build a snow specific snow rig, maybe centered around some American Truck Tracks
Wow,what an adventure!all truck trouble but at the end of the day, still able to surpass all challenges..
Great video Nate! I love snow wheeling too! Snow can be so different from one day to another and here in the high country of Wyoming snow travel in late Dec through Jan can be treacherous. With very little moisture in the air and very cold temps, a lot of time our snow turns to sugar. It gets so bad that sometimes you can't even travel on snow shoes. I like to take my atv out on tracks and sometimes travel is almost impossible with that. Wait a couple of weeks and the weather warms up and the snow is able to pack again and things get better. I spent three hours buried to the frame in my lifted and locked TJ with a cummins R2.8 last weds. I was trying to follow a two track in a ground blizzard after busting drifts all morning long chained up on all 4. I couldn't read the terrain due to the blowing and drifting snow and I ended up in a deep wash with no winch points. I tried my pull pal with my rear winch and it wouldn't hold. I shoveled the entire undercarriage of the Jeep out and was able to drive back and forth 10 feet but couldn't get out backwards, just kept digging in. I finally gave it another shot forward and buried it again. This time after digging mostly out, I got the pulpal to anchor on a piece of sage brush and I got out! In this case the chains hurt me, I would have rather aired down to about 3 psi and tried to float out. But, it's all a great time! Keep up the great videos and if you every want to wheel in some new country, come to N. Wyoming!
Idk what it is about snow running but i just cant stop watching.
Looks like my whole week driving and Amazon delivery van around
Fantastic video and awesome experience! One that I will never have. The first flakes hit the ground here in Mass and my Jeep goes away for the winter. Between my hatred of cold and the massive amounts of salt they pack the roads here with I just have no desire to fight the trails in the winter. But I love watching you do it!😂😂😂 love the content Nate!!
What an awesome looking trip! Cheers!
I live in mn, what you call snow wheeling I call a Tuesday commute...lol. I love banging through the snow, and I look forward to some deep stuff when my rig is done.
This video was awesome! This is where I grew up and started wheeling
Love snow vibes 🤙
Great video as always Nate! Can't wait for the next one.
Thanks man!
Looks like a blast. God speed Nate 👍👍
i have always felt that with a manual trans..you can feel what the ground need's or wants for power. As far as snow type and temperature, its cool you adress both! great vid and thanks for making me buy a diesel healer ...8)
I have the same set up as your brother on my jeep, its set up for 2. Things ,overlanding, fishing trips an snow wheeling which is my favorite type of wheeling .. esp at night. I was jealous of your trip, as you know KJ’s are snow tanks and go great in the snow 👍 please keep the snow wheeling videos coming they are awesome👍
Love the philosophy and spirit you live by. Adventure, risk, and good times, even if by the way of a fine and pleasant misery...lol
What a great video! I dream of adventures like this!
Snow wheelin can sneak up on ya. Reminds me of my experience on Snoball 2020. 36 hours in the woods of Michigan’s UP, except no camping gear.
Damn! Sounds cold!
Each to their own, more power to ya, different strokes for different folks. That said, y'all be 3 nucking futs.
Just installed one of those 5kw diesel heaters in my suburban and I can't wait to use it. Since it's an old suburban I'll be using it in the morning for my commute to warm it up before I drive and to melt snow on the truck. It's able to be used with my phone or a remote. Super excited
Love your truck! Hope your dad’s doing better. 🙏🏼
Thanks! I'm with him now. Speech is slowly coming back! We might be able to talk on the phone as early as next week. Fingers crossed 🤞
@@DirtLifestyle 🙏🏼
🙏
Maybe the wife will allow you to take the JL so you can get though a trip without your Toyota curse. :) Rad video as always grateful you all stayed safe. Those CHINA heaters rock when they work. That's 4 sure.
Some would say Brakes are just a crutch. Great video dude
So sick man. Great video!
Love that Delica! Type 2 fun at its best!
Good times! Snow tracks!
Thank you for sharing your adventures. This makes me want to try snow wheeling now.
It is a lot of fun.
Snow is like mud, it is different everywhere you go. My snow is not your snow and your mud is not my mud. We tend to 'judge' things based on our own similar experiences; BUT, believe me! even my local snow varies whether it is in Big Cottonwood Canyon or Little Cottonwood Canyon. Is it morning snow or evening snow? Sun on it? Moab snow is different from Burley, Idaho snow (all places I have lived or farmed). I am so glad I don't have to deal with the I-80 Donner Summit concrete snow. As both a double black diamond skier and a 55 year snow-driving veteran, I thought I knew snow UNTIL I spent some time back in the Washington DC area in a January a few years back and discovered that both "cold" and "snow" mean something totally different back there. Great vid. Glad all ended well. Hope to encounter you in the wild.
Great video man and im glad it worked out
Power to weight ratio can make a difference also, my 80 toyota compared to my 94 gmc pickup. Great vids in the snow, I love snow wheeling cause I literaly do it everyday just to get home.
Great video! Looks like the same stuff me and my buddies do in Nor Cal. To answer your question I would have definitely tried to make the summit
Incredible adventure !!!
We need more of these videos 👌
Awesome episode man! No risk no reward love it !!
Thanks dude!
I like the old shut off valves on each brake line trick dirthead Dave did some time back! Good vid bub...
Every time you said ice it just made me think of the SXSBlog sheet metal studs. It’s a terrible idea but one day I’ll give it a try on a truck, currently in Tucson AZ so not anytime soon 😂
Solid.. solidddddd episode
While in Alaska I used to throw chains all the way around on the deuce and a half go almost anywhere off road. The thing was a beast with ten wheels of chains churning through the snow. I'm a chain believer.
I almost moved to Amerika just now..we just had the first snow and we live in 67°north in northern part of norway. 300 km north og the polat circle 🙉 😂 Love the feeling of the "FlippingChaos" in snow. Thats the best feeling ever.. FEEELING ALIVE please dont go Discovery…too much drama. We love just the way you and your show is right now 👊 Your friends daica or what you called it…is a Mitshubisi l200 with a lot of same parts as the pajero/shogun
I guess I'll have to open the box with my new welder. Always Inspiring !
You had owsome time no mether what. Cheers guys. 🍻
In the snow, it is best to ride on winter tires lowered to a minimum pressure of 0.2-0.3. Mud tires in deep snow do not show themselves very well, as they begin to dig, and not tamp. With a lot of experience, it's quite difficult to get stuck in the snow.
I can't tell if you're making me want to go wheeling in the snow more, or less. 🤣 But, definitely cool to watch.
So awesome. Guessing that’s up in the Olympics? Haven’t been up camping since early October but wanting to head up soon!!
Chains are always good to carry,we're required down here in the mountians of SoCal to carry them but most of us don't use'em.
Chains needed in Socal? I guess all that transient fecal matter on the way to mall has gotten worse.
outstanding video. absolutely love snow wheeling. we just don't get that kind of sticky wet snow here in colorado very much. it's usually that garbage dry powder that you can't stay on top of to save your life haha!
Great editing!
