    • It’s still cheating and she has a responsibility to the field to play by the rules or accept the penalty. Since she finished the round and signed her score card incorrectly that could actually disqualify her. And as far as a fraction of an inch, if you play golf then you should know that that can be the difference in making and missing a short put. Why do you think players do it if it doesn’t help? And plenty of players do it, I know some who have made an art of it.

    • @@zanierrules do you know golf? I’m pretty sure i do cuz ive been playing before i started walking. It is by rule a penalty, we can’t change that, but i doubt she did it on purpose and it would not affect her putt at all for a few reasons. 1. It was a very close putt, looked around 1-2 feet, an inch either way would not change the aimpoint and result of the putt, especially because it looked like a very flat putt 2. It was moved forward, not to the side, and due to the reason stated before, it would not change her aimpoint 3. Due to these reasons why would she intentionally make this action knowing it’s would be a a penalty on a random 2ft putt??? It would make no sense for her to change it just due to the fact that it doesn’t change how she plays the putt at all. One inch from that distance will not change how you should play that putt.

In the first example Mickelson new what the penalty was for what he was doing and simply decided it was worth it. Again, you can question whether or not THAT OUGHT to be the rule, but IT IS the rule and therefore it’s not cheating. It’s just using the rules to your advantage.

My bil plays golf every week and cheats at every hole, be it improving every lie, taking mulligans, moving ball from behind all obstacles or using the hand wedge to get out of sand traps. Still he manages to show off his score card and brags about how many birdies he’s made. Gives a hole by hole account of his best shots and tells of how he beat his other brother. They both equally cheat by the way, so in that sense it’s a fair game, as strange as that sounds. I can no longer play with them. It disheartens me.

  • Doesn’t matter if she did it on purpose or accidental same still applies. Funny how the narrative spoke about men cheating then the women cheating was accidental

  • No DQ for Mickelson. The 2 shot penalty is justified and fair. But it's not in the spirit of the game. Bad sportsmanship. And I like Phil.

    • I think others had complained that she regularly altered her ball positions when marking them on the greens, much as Blaylock had done . Put the marker slightly to one side then when replacing the ball move it to the other side can alter the line if not closer to the hole. A professional should know and be able to properly mark and replace their ball...she KNEW what she did. Perhaps her other competitors didn't want to make a stink about it, but when the Officials were presented with the video evidence...and no doubt they'd heard the rumors...they took action. 4 strokes is pretty harsh..but it is what it is.
