i wanna drive no better yet ill buy a russian tank maybe a t34 since you can buy demilled tanks and drive them around. drive up to college like whats up bitches xD.
Only way you could do that is if you would get tracks with rubber pads ,the t34 has steel tracks and thous could breack the asfalt roads ,also i would suggsest something better than a t34 ,maybe sherman ,more ruum and easyer to drive with less clunky gearbox and alot less maintenens ,or you could go with something more modern like a paladin ,i wan to get a tiger 1 ,but the big dream is to buy a mous ,maybe build it on my own
olluman123 Tiger 1's are extremely hard to get better yet even rarer if its in working order the one they have on the tank museum. It would be better to look up the tank specs and and get the parts made and get people to build it for you.

Pray you don't get tracked while in combat
this guy
It has sidearmor ...
not only maus should
tracked from the front obviously. tracks are particularly weak from the front but op at the sides
Quantum Razgriz - That applies to all tanks, anytime a tank gets tracked in battle its Immobilized, leaving it open and an easy target.
I think i understand why the Maus has no handlebars to get on top on, the ferdinand had no machine gun so infantry could just walk up to the tank, open the hatch and shoot the crew. The Maus is so big it's hard to get up on without handlebars so infantry couldnt just climb the maus and shoot the crew, because the maus has no machine gun for infantry as well.
It had a Coax MG?
Didnt he say they threw away the idea?
***** That's a 75mm cannon. Not a 20mm.
And the infantry wouldn't just climb on and open the hatch. If you don't know about tank hatches, they lock on the inside.
the fear is well known, if you have open ports, enemies will try to chuck grenades into it. maus had a flamethrower for infantry. plus if someone did get up to a port hole and stick their gun into it, (maybe a commander port) the bullets will ricochet all around the interior harming the crew.

I remember swimming through the T57 Heavy but then my Sheridan flew me up to my Chaffee I ran to the enemys but there ducks killed my Maüschen. Then i relised. I'm on my 13th beer
Lifting a 100 ton behemoth, and standing under it to work on something. Yea, no. I'd like to keep my head... and my body.
You either crawl under the tank or be shot for insubordination.
does it really matter? 1 tonne? 10 tonnes? 100 tonnes? 1000 tonnes? The result would be the same.
well, you don' normally stand under a tank since most maintenance are done without lifting one up in the first place. Even when tanks are jacked up, you don't need to get under the tank to work on it. Not the case with the Maus since tracks don't have access hatches unlike every other tank with armored skirts.

imagine if the germans had actually built a P1000 "RATTE" (rat) which is like a maus with steroids, Or even the P1500 monster. Could have been quite a sight to see if they had been built.
Maus was never known as the P500....
Panzergrenadier Productions It wasn't? hmm i was told that Maus is just an added name. Guess i should have checked if it was correct or not...
VK100.01 / Porsche Type 205 was its designation, and Maus was a name coined to deceive Allied intelligence.

Dear god, that camera angle down by the turret ring really brings the scale home, especially in contrast to anything else. And to tanks of the era!!!
I feel lucky that I got to see this monster up close when I was in Moscow in 2001. I even have a picture of me on top of Karl and the Tiger in this museum. Can't remember why I didn't have a picture on top of Maus, but perhaps my Russian soldier guides didn't have access to a ladder.

There was no need for hand/foot holds. The Maus was so big, the crew lived in it.

dan danny perhaps you should read offical comments not on FTR. The Maus is to be restored but after the T35.
dan danny They wanted to restore the T35 FIRST, Because the WWII Vets of the Soviet Union (Stalin Bless them) are getting up their ages, and they want one last "Hurrah" before they die. After that, the Maus is one the front burner again.

Its fantastic to finally see inside it !!!
Maus wasn't a good idea. 1) Run over small, common AT mine. 2) Get tracked. Since a common detracking is a DEPOT level repair for such a huge tank, crew groans and does nothing. 3) Have to wait patiently for a gigantic (not yet invented at prototyping) tank recovery vehicle to pull you out, which will take several hours. 4) Giant, juicy tank gets bombed by every fighter-bomber in the area during that several hours. 5) Armor which has no problem against a 122mm to the glacis plate dies quickly and horribly against multiple 500-lb semi-armor piercing bombs to the turret roof. 6) PROFIT ??? Not if you're the Germans, you don't. More like SQUANDER ???.
Also it was much to heavy to cross any bridges they planned for it to be submersible with a snorkel.
Haha "Mein Fuhrer, no bridges yet exist in the sum experience of human engineering that can hold the Maus safely." "So it can't cross rivers?" "That's what I'm saying, Mein Fuhrer..." "I see... so what you're saying is... it needs to be waterproof so it can cross on the riverbed?" "....no, that's not at all what I'm saying...in fact that will make it heav-" "Excellent plan! Amphibious stealth assault super-heavy tank! I approve! Make the necessary changes immediately!"
lol actually one i found funny.
Profit = while they attempts to land a 500lb bomb on the tank you take down all those planes with flak
It was meant to assault with infantry I reckon, if it's hurt to that extent they set u p a defense with some AA guns, or they thought of this and send like 3 wirbels.

I would like seeing this thing alive again, imagine an modern tank stuck in an corner in an city, noticing an maus driving around an corner and pointing the gun at this modern tank. The commander would be like " ahhhw i hate this job"
Doesnt sound too bad, the 128mm will do precisely nothing to modern composite armour.
T0mm3n 128 at point blank range, if it hits the modern tanks its over. Maus armor is made to bounce 128 cm or less even at point blank range, but modern tanks are designed to not get hit and if they get hit, most times they dont get directly hit, but on almost point blank range its not an good sign for the modern tanks...
T0mm3n not true really. modern tanks are a lot softer than you'd think.
babs beaver on like 150 meters away the projectile has its full power, it will go in wirh such an power, an direct hit will penetrate.
Davy Jones Considering the 12.8 had max pen values laughably short of modern mbts effective thickness, nothing would happen. Think of how much more energy a modern sabot round has compared to the 12.8, the 12.8 is not even in the same ball park. Modern sabots have well over double the kinetic energy compared to the 12.8 and still can have issues getting penetration frontally.
still totally awesome to see the inside of it.
What im noticing is the fantastic welding on the joins despite corrosion through time

Why did the russians even blow both of them up ? Did they just want to see the biggest tank on the planet blow up ? I would, but not twice.
***** Ah okay that makes more sense. Or maybe the nazi's blew it up themselves ?
the german's didn't blow the maus. it was abandoned by the soldiers who operated it when they heard GERMAN FALLS WHEN HITLER COMMIT SUICIDE.. IT WAS THE RUSSIAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ivier palero Just like (aboomination) said, Germans always destroyed their tanks, the same happened with Tiger tanks too, because they didn't want that technology and other stuff would fall into their enemies hands, a.k.a. UK/US/RU hands. Single Tiger tank only got captured, even in working condition, it is being held in UK museum if I'm not mistaken, and once a year, or more, Tiger is being powered up and have few circles for audience to check out tanks. Why only one got captured and not blown up ? The crew was so desperate that they didn't even set charges and just ran away...that Tiger was up against few Churchill's in desert.
***** It got a 6 Pounder round (I think. Not very knowledgeable about UK tanks) wedged between the turret and hull. Jammed.

Yes that is the karal, they were all named and they were only able to get "adam"
awww i love karl and his brother adam very english names for germans though
Adam is karal
The first six karals had the nicknames "Adam" (later "Baldur"), "Eva" (later "Wotan"), "Thor", "Odin", "Loki", and "Ziu"; the seventh, the research and test weapon (Versuchs-Gerät), had no name. In 1945, Nr. II ("Eva") as well as Nr. V ("Loki") were captured by US forces in the period 21 March to 11 April 1945. Nr. VII, the test weapon, was captured by the US Army in Hillersleben and shipped to Aberdeen Proving Grounds but later scrapped.[21] Nr. VI ("Ziu") was captured by the Red Army, probably when they overran Jüterbog on 20 April 1945. This is on display at Kubinka, although marked as Nr. I ("Adam").[22] Nr. IV ("Odin") was also captured by the Red Army. The fates of guns Nr. I ("Adam") and Nr. III ("Thor") are not known. -wiki

Anyone's guess how they thought that this "tank" (more like a bunker on tracks) was going to change anything that late in the war. One Maus against 1000 T-34s or M4 Shermans? There was no way that this monster was going to impact the war in Germany's favor. Too expensive, too labor intensive (to build and maintain), impossible to move around, huge demand for fuel, a big target, etc. It was a failure even before they even started building one prototype. But Hitler was crazy for superheavy tanks and military equipment which sounded good on paper (i.e. the V3 Englandkanone).
I think it would be good as a mobile pillbox, like to prevent the D-Day landings, except it was too big to fit onto a train. Beyond that, no
Garrett Montgomery Yes. He actually wanted a bigger gun on it because it didn't look big enough in relation to the body.
Actually, it was less than a third of what you posted, and many of his kills are believed to actually been from the tanks under his command. It was common practice to take credit for all the tanks kills be the tanks in your group.
+Corristo89 One Maus against 1000 T-34s? Easy cake, the poor 76mm guns would only scratch its camouflage (just look at the 122mm impact on it), the problem would be the lack of enough ammo. After that you have crush them by running them over with your 185 ton tonk.
Actually, by 1945, they were mostly variants of the T-34/85 with an 85mm gun, they would have been much better at killing a Maus. However, mobile artillery would have been best, since the Maus was so cumbersome.
It's crazy how much it echoed inside there.
i like the karl staying right next to the maus.
