For those who have never interacted with wolves raised in captivity this video shows you a couple of things. First is scale - look at how massive the wolf in height and the size of its head. It easily climbed right over that fence and there was also a good shot of how large its large teeth are. But most importantly how affectionate they are. Yes face licking is a standard greeting.

when it was refusing the head scratches it was very vocal about it. this is a trait we have highly bred out from dogs and then created aggressive breeds causing social unpredictability among dogs and their violent interactions with people. pitbulls for example dont warn vocally at all before attacking.
My Chow/Lab mix used to do exactly that when he didn’t like something. He was a rescue and at first I thought he was being aggressive but after a while realized he was just talking to me. Dogs should have the right to let you know if they don’t like something. My current rescue dog lets me know. Maybe dogs that have spent less time around people when young still vocalize like this because there was no one to tell them not to.
Dogs usually also attack without warning due to being abused, they aren't going to warn someone if they think there going to be hurt
