Outline of Jodogahama Beach
Jodogahama Beach is a typical scenic spot in Miyako City, located in the Sanriku Reconstruction National Park and Sanriku Geopark. The coastline of strange white driftstone rocks, green pine forests, and the blue ocean make a beautiful contrast. The name “Jodogahama” comes from a Buddhist monk who was moved by the sight, saying, “This place looks like a Pure Land.
Highlights of Jodogahama
Odd white rocks: The shoreline of Jodogahama is characterized by oddly-shaped, sharply pointed white meteorite rocks. These rocks were formed by volcanic activity about 200 million years ago.
Pine forest and sea view: The spectacular scenery of green pine forests and blue sea is just like a “Pure Land. The scenery changes with the seasons.
Historical sites: Historical sites such as the footprints of Benkei and the statue of Kobo Daishi are scattered throughout the area.

Access to Jodogahama Beach
From April 1 to October 31, general vehicle access is restricted. Exceptions are made for the elderly and persons with disabilities.
