  • I am currently an international student studying in the West Midlands, and while I can understand English to some extent at school, I've had difficulty understanding the accents of people I encounter in everyday life, especially in places like a garage. I've been curious about their accents and have wanted to better understand their speech. After watching this video, I learned that it's the Black Country accent. I appreciate it!

  • As an English learner, I can understand most English speakers whatever their accent, but I'm still struggling to understand certain native speakers. I speak English with an American accent, I obviously do understand most Americans and Canadians and some Brits, mostly London speakers. I already know that there are a bunch of English accents spread around the world and that fact makes the language more fascinating, diverse and enchanting. Even North Americans have a great deal of difficulty understanding some specific accents of the UK. Many native speakers struggle to grasp some accents that are part of the same language, and I wouldn't be able to communicate with certain speakers who don't speak with a "standardized accent". And I think this problem has also been occurring in all languages. After all, I was able to understand you at about 90%, you have such clear speech no matter what your accent is. Thanks a lot for helping me out. ❤

  • Wow. I think you would be the last English teacher I've ever met in my whole life time. Thank you so much for your teaching! Since I'm a South Korean, who have finished the master's degree in English-speaking country last year, I was always wondering how to improve my English properly in short time. Now that I subscribe your channel, I'm very confident about what kind of attitude I should take in terms of studying English. Thank you again, mate!

  • Thanks for bringing standard English into "every day " English. I got all of them. I guess it's sort of helpful that I've learned most of my English at the university of life. (Which means though that my grammar is far from perfect) My tip to all you English learners out there is to listen to audiobooks. You can reduce the speed, and the dialogue is often read in the local accent for the area where the story is taking place. I was challenged when I listened to my first crime novel from Belfast.😅 I heard the first chapter twice, and then I bit by bit like broke the code. Good luck to all of you . Practice makes perfect 😊

  • Great video! I'm glad you touched upon the ridiculous, faddish proliferation of "like" now, even though you didn't quite go as far as criticising it! It's so tedious to hear "like" several times in many sentences these days, typically when describing something that actually is, rather than comparing it to something else. "There was like a ladder going up" - it was actually a ladder! The excessive and pointless usage of "like" is spreading rapidly and it drives me mad!

  • Hi teacher, I appreciate your best English practice with Listening. When you speak faster like a native speaker, I can understand 80% of your English words, but I don't know how to link words and speak and also the pronunciation. Teacher as you said if I slow down your speech and listen carefully, I can learn it well. It beautiful like watching an English film when you speak faster teacher. I love it

As an almost-fluent-in-English French bloke, I specially struggled with the words "drama school" in the first story (heard "dra-school"), and "celebrities" in the second one (heard "celies"). But to be honest listening in real life isn't that easy, I think there's one more level you should put in your video and you might call it '' epic level '' which would be the real world one :D

  • Hi Laura, first of all thanks a bunch for this beautiful video!! Could you please make more videos using the "Easy or Medium level" ? That could be really useful for no native speakers ! Certo, ecco la traduzione della frase dall'italiano all'inglese usando il verbo "to struggle": I understand you 100% when you use "standard accent", but I struggle to follow your conversations when you change your accent. Thanks from Italy
