It's really sad how both Dabi and Shoto wanted to switch places so badly Dabi wanted to be praised by his father and be the strongest And Shoto only wanted a normal childhood
Touya was born to surpass all might but failed in enji's view Fuyumi was born in order to influence touya Natsuo was born cause touya failed in enji's view so he could have been a new successer but once again attempt failed Then shoto was born in order to replace touya and attempt succeeded
Well. The attempt to make someone maybe but that wasnt really the goal. He failed his actual objective because he fucked up raising shoto since endeavour was a callous abusive fk who didnt realize he was actively sabotaging. He repressed how he viewed his own family except as tools to achieve what he wanted. He didnt realize that the huge gulf appearing between him and All Might wasnt because the latter was so much ahead, but because the former was setting himself back by his jealousy, envy and huge insecurities.

Endeavor also could’ve trained him and looked into ways to help use his work without hurting himself. After all Deku found a way so could they.

They’ve told him multiple times he was burning himself but Touya was stubborn. I don’t think this was a Deku situation where you could adapt to it. I’m not sure what equipment could help either. I think Endeavor did the rational thing to stop training since Touya kept hurting himself. But don’t get me wrong Endeavor is still to blame for pressuring Touya to surpass All Might at the start & making him feel replaced with Shoto.

Dabi is literally the black sheep of the Family and Shouto is treated as the golden child because of his inherited quirk from both his parents.

I take it back dabi didn't just drive him to the edge he drove him off and threw a stick of tnt in just for good measure, so even though Endeavor was terrible as a father and didn't do well But most of the blame for the messed up family lies with dabi he caused all the problems. Shoto had legitimate reasons to be a villain cause he was burned by his mother and treated as a tool by his father, Dabi was actually loved by Endeavor and his mother never did anything to him. Shoto caused none of the issues but reaped all the punishment, Dabi sowed all the discord and issues and reaped None of the punishments then decided he was mistreated and became a villain to have revenge against his father, For laughably not being willing enough to kill his own son. So dabi in order to take revenge murders innocent people and goes on a killing spree and the reason? because he hates shoto for being born with both quirks and his father for "Neglecting" him which was actually him trying to keep him from burning alive.

All of his kids have all the right reasons to hate him, and hopefully he pulls a "sacrifice" thing in the manga to stop Dabi, but it's more likely that he'll be the one dying instead... how to badly redeem a character with no redeeming qualities to begin with.
I hate Endeavor and his actions, but Horikoshi is not redeeming Endeavor. The whole point of Toya becoming Dabi, his atonement arc, etc, is that he CANT be redeemed, and like Natsuo said, he cant waltz in and expect everyone to accept him.
To be fair, the League of Villains and Shigaraki directly call out Hero Society for elevating people like Endeavor to fame and glorty.

Um...excuse me, HAPPY? Growing up in a household like that at all would be a nightmare for any child. Just because she didn't get any direct abuse doesn't mean she (and maybe Natsuo too) wasn't the invisible child. That doesn't mean she didn't suffer in her own way too from wallflower pain. I grew up in a fucking shit, unpredictable household too and I had to get the perspective of an adult that just because my sister was my dad's least favorite target didn't mean she wasn't also suffering.

What are you talking about? Fuyumi may have not suffered direct abuse like Touya or Shoto, but in her case was different. She suffered emotional abuse. Fuyumi was neglected by her father, had to witness how their family teared apart with Touya burning himself along with a mountain, Shoto suffering a hellish training, her mother disappearing of her life and Natsuo growing up with a grudge against Endeavor. All of that happened in her first 12 years. Now imagine having to endure all those scars and traumas for at least 10 years
She didn't not live a happy life but is the only one to act as a mature adult. She focus on her future rather than her past

Both fire and ice are very powerful and are not easy powers to control perfectly, it takes a lot of training, determination and self-control to improve everything.

Its sad thar enji did care for his family nore than jusr tools to surpass all might. But his obsession with being number 1 he put his kids, especially shoto and touya through so much. Like he was good to his wife before touya, actually listening to her and taking her for walks to keep her happy, but the the stress hw put himslef through and touya caused him to emorionally surpress and start neglecting his family and wife to prusue his ambitions. And all touya could see was his dad trying to replace him (which he kind of was, but he was also trying nit to kill touya). Like enji could have helped touya become a hero and not just abruptly stop training and not explain why Tldr, sad story, enji becomes an emotionally surpresssed poscuz he didnt know how to parent a child in a healthy way

People only think endeavour is the one at fault but looking now everyone had a fault to play Endeavour was the flame that ignited it all , he was the reason everyone became how he became , at first endeavour , before shoto was born and before he started to fall into despair he proved to be a decent and at the very leasd a responsible and loving father We saw how toya and fuyumi weren't failures to him , in fact if one looks at endeavour expressions and life you could see he was sorta comfortable and happy with the current life he was having and was somewhat of a decent and good father figure at first. It was endeavours insecurities and lack of confidence and self hatred that let to him becoming the man that damaged the entire todoroki family for ages to come , most of them were good at first , if endeavour hadn't allowed his own sense of despair and hopelesness as well as feeling of being powerless get the best of him i would assure you he would have been a good father figure and even a loving one for all of his children and toya and the rest would have been a normal family Toya as well if you notice was also contributing in large part towards the family's disfunctionality , understandable he was a kidd and a imature and emotional teen , you people that are parents know how sometimes teens can be , the bad thing about toya is was that since he focused and admired and loved his father so much he adhered his existential value at just wanted to make endeavour happy . Toya had genuine love for his family and didn't like the actions he took, you may say he doesn't care about them but that's bullshit, i believe enji did nothing more than put even more insecurities on toya since he didn't pay as much attentiont to him anymore , knowing the backstory of both his parents marriage seeing it as somewhat selfish and lack of love is what made him feel the need to prove himself especially to his father, he was a faliure , that's why he was especially jealous of shoto and tried to attack him You can see that the more children were born toya felt as if his own existence was becoming more and more meaningless, becuase he knew what endeavour wanted , and since endeaovour was a hero that was supposed tyo help people and do good to citizens yet seemingly abandons him , rejects and doens't care about spending time nor with him nor with the other "failures" anymore is what especially proves his point to toya . Toya himself endeavour and his mother tried to help him and give him advice , problem was toya was as stubborn and emotional and unwilling to give up in his goals as endeavour , which we all know what led them both into. Toya was basically hidden his deep jealously and disgust that he was forced to have brothers and sister because he felt as if he himself didn't matter to the eyes of his parents or at least endeavour and that's why he was especially jealous of shoto and never saw him as a brother or anything but just a puppet that was created for the sake of endeaovour's selflish desires and he himself replaced . In toya's eyes his brothers were a replacement and further prove of his point of view that endeavour didn't care for him but for anything other than for being a tool to help him surpass his own insecurities and never as a person nor someone he genuinely loved which we know is not true Toya convinced himself that his father never cared for him which is both true and false , that as well as after burning up and seeing how endeavour never changed let him becoming someone with a hatred for society and heroes. Can you blame the guy, why should someone whose whole existence to the world being treated like an outcast , a failure and feeling as if no one loved him should have any right to care or have to relate to them anymore , even if toya did return to the household what would have changed , endeaovur would have maybe felt a huge sense of relief back then and maybe even glad but i highly doubt he would have given up any of his own desires of power and that's what toya aka dabi realized and why he left home and never looked to return. Rei was guilty even if she wasn't actually as bad as endeavour or toya , she didn't have many flaws that made her a bad parent , she genuinely did her best as a mother and as someone who wanted to love her children for someone that married a man that she never truly loved , the fact is that rei was like flowers , like ice, like her powers suggest , she was delicate, someone that was supposed to be treated with being gentle , as well that she wasn't actually perfect and how her parents didn't hesistatre to sell her for money. it's natural why she couldn't raise toya anymore , she could not do anything to understand him because she just couldn't , she wasn't the type of person to understand her child nor was she strong willed and willing to speak up back then either , that's why her husband was abusive and she suffered a mental breakdown and could't raise the rest of her children properly , especially shoto Also forgot to mention natsu could have listened to toya and toya would'nt have felt worse and fuyumi could have speaken more too and toya insulted both his sister and mother ,which made him verbally abusive and the fact that he tried to kill natsuo , endeavour and shoto doesn't help Also pray to tell that with endeavour trying to reform and the rest of the kids with their resentment and great dislike for their own father you must recognize what i mean , nobody is perfect , everyone has emotions and we always like to find someone to blame for everything , that's what a dysfunctional family is It pains me to understand that not only endeaovour but the entire family has a part to role in what happened , reason most people don't see this kind of perspective even thought they know the whole is simple , anime characters are supposed to represent us , Emotional , judgmental , good and worst traits , they are meant to show you what you could become and the reason you all will either agree with me or not is because of your own emotions which i don't blame you for . Imagine trying to analyze and discet why a domestic abuser's victims are also to blame for their behavior. Endeavor married Rei for her quirk he says so himself he might enjoy her company afterwards but the goal was always the same, to mix his fire quirk with her ice quirk. He never explains WHY to Toya he just puts it on someone else and never bothers being an actual father to the son he mentally destroyed. Endeavor knows that his son hurts himself when using his quirk and instead of trying to mitigate the damage or even have a conversation, he abandoned him and continued to have more children for the sole purpose of finding a perfect blend between himseld and Rei, nothing about this goes against the fact he made a conscious decion to continue to emotionally and verbally and physically abuse his family

He married Rei just for her quirk, Rei at least TRIED to build a family and be happy in her situation by supporting the idea of more kids but Endeavor did nothing to nurture them beyond " tools to surpass all might" He had Touya with that mentality and then he had Fuyumi just to "keep him in check" not out of true parental love. He didn't even gave a second thought to Natsu who is just a failure and Shoto is just the golden kid, the one to make HIS dream become true, Endeavor sucked, and just recently he took his head out of his ass after destroying 4 kids and his own wife life. Oh, and on top of that just now he took responsability, because he kept blaming/ignoring everyone else. Also the Nature vs Nurture view on Touya is difficult because we only see the Touya that Endeavor already conditioned to think he only has value as Endeavor's sucessor
Rei needs to be recognised for what she is: barely any better than Enji. He could have been a victim of childhood abuse for all we know, most narcissists are victims of that. Rei is also a victim, but a victim who, thanks to the anime style of holding long on single frames, seems to have known full well it was her son there. Shoto shouldn’t apologise to her. I almost think after that that maybe she deserves Enji. 😢
Not gonna lie, I know I will get a lot of hate for this, but I stopped feeling sorry for Dabi right after he tried to kill Shoto. I know he had a traumatizing backstory and it's indeed very saddening, but unlike Shigaraki, Dabi isn't shown to feel at least a bit of regret for his actions. His hatred towards Endeavour has spilled on his entire family and he can't really be justified any longer. I don't want to seem like I defend Endeavour or try to make Dabi look like the one who was the only one guilty, because Dabi isn't exactly 100% guilty for his shift from Toya Todoroki to Dabi (I would say that in about 40%-50% the guilt is on his side). Shigaraki unlike Dabi has a lot of other redeeming qualities which show that he isn't fully insane just like Dabi which shows very little to ABSOLUTELY NONE regrets at all and doesn't really seem to be conflicted. So in short, I feel bad about his backstory and it was for sure very depressing, but Shigaraki's backstory is much more tragic. We can even see that in their backstories. Toya before he became Dabi was shown to feel extremely envious of his younger brother for something he didn't even choose. He MAY have felt remorse later after he woke up from his coma and wanted to fix his previous mistakes, but it doesn't change the fact he was able to not only almost kill his younger brother for absolutely nothing, but also his Mother (Rei) which actually cared for him a lot. Child Shigaraki (or Tenko Shimura) wasn't shown to be violent as a child unlike Dabi and was just a innocent child which wanted to become a hero, and his father's abuse changed him into a villain he is now. But unlike Dabi Shigaraki still shows caring for his entire family. Unlike Dabi. So yeah, I think that Dabi's backstory is very sad, but Shigaraki deserves being pitied 10 times more than Dabi. That's all.

Shigaraki's situation was WAY more different than Touya's and their pasts can't be compared nor should anyone compare two traumatic childhoods and see who had it worse or who deseves more sympathy. Toya was groomed into fulfilling Endeavour's dream since he was a toddler and he knew that he was born for that one reason and that that was his entire purpose and why his parents married and had children in the first place. Especially when everyone around him is obsessed with heroes and he is the son of a top hero and was supposed to be his successor, but was deemed unsuitable for that role and no one seemed to understand his position and his struggles until it was way too late.
@@Kalakeiko You're right, about it. I didn't say about who I think deserves more pity but I just wanted to tell my opinion. I don't try to negate Dabi's tragedy, and I've already said that Endeavour was the one greatly responsible for Touya's shift to Dabi and I must admit, Endeavor was MUCH MORE guilty than just 50-60 percent of Touya's fall. I'm just saying that he's not a sympathetic character worthy of pity. Dabi is mentally unstable and justifying his resentment for Endeavour is no longer possible, since he can kill lot of innocent people (Including Shoto, who hasn't done a single thing to Touya for him to make him hate Shoto and Dabi's hatred for him is just creation of his own delusions and resentment. He doesn't even pity Shoto although in my opinion Shoto had much more traumatising childhood than Touya that was treated well by Endeavour and wasn't forced to train without breaks and actually liked training alongside his father. Touya's envy made him a monster he became today but both his violent and unstable mental health and Endeavour's harshness and carelessness played a huge role in it.) just to torture mentally his father who even apologized to him and his entire family as well, let's not forget that Endeavour's change and redemption was his own choice and no one else made him redeem himself, not Rei, not Fuyumi, not Natsuo, not Shoto and I'm not even mentioning Dabi made him redeem himself and this shows that his remorse and guilt are authentic and real and not just staged to make himself look better and help his situation. And back to Dabi, is someone who is sadistic, violent, heartless, brutal, manipulative, ruthless and vengeful to the core a person who is worthy of pity? Dabi doesn't even respect anyone and sees everyone as a tool in completing his ultimate goal which is ruining Endeavour's life and killing him. He doesn't respect Tomura, he doesn't respect Twice and just treats him like a tool (and no one can tell me that Dabi actually cared about Twice, because he didn't), he doesn't respect even his superiors and not even that son of a bitch which is AFO. So yeah, my final opinion is that Dabi besides his backstory and mistreatment by Endeavour who still cared and loved his Son, Touya has absolutely NONE other redeeming qualities which shows that besides his tragedy he is a selfish a-hole who is absolutely irredeemable. In my opinion, he's just completely mentally and emotionally broken and so caught up in his trauma and hurt that he literally doesn't feel anything anymore, as he's said before. He named himself Dabi AKA Cremation and had planned out his death for years since he was a teenager and having gone through the trauma of literally burning alive and waking up in a creepy facility after three years just so he could be used as a spare vessel for AFO and when he isn't angry or mentally unstable, he is just empty and indifferent towards anything. Although, I do think that parts of Toya are definitely still in Dabi considering that he still refers to Rei as his mom, using nicknames when referring to Fuyumi and Natsuo, the first thing he thought of when he woke up from his coma was to go home to his family so he could apologise to his mom and train with his dad. He is also still desperate for Endeavour's love and attention and still wants him to truly see him even now, he still wants his family to be by his side and to love him (I know that they already do, but Toya doesn't see it that way as he has convinced himself that only those that are strong and useful are worthy of love and attention), during his fight with Shoto we see them both portayed as children, with Toya's version crying, much like how Izuku and Tomura were when Izuku wants to save Tomura and still seeing the child in him and Dabi has cried on two occasions, both of which were related to his family. Once when a hero asked him if he ever thought of the families of the heroes he targets, to which he later said that he's thought about it so much that it's driven him insane while wiping away a tear and again when referring to his family and listing off their names while again shedding a tear in one of his hideouts. In my eyes, Toya still lives in Dabi and his desperate wish to be seen is still very much alive even now.

The day Touya became Dabi he abandoned his humanity just because of his hatred and resentment for his family especially for Endeavour and Shoto, he wasn't Touya anymore. He was replaced by the person as ruthless, merciless and cruel as Dabi. And I must admit your point of view is quite wise, because although Dabi is irredemable, Touya that still as you said lives in Dabi is broken. By my opinion I meant that they can't redeem "Dabi" who I don't think will become Touya again after all things he has done, even if it's possible for Dabi to become Touya again, I don't see any realistic form of redemption for Touya after coming back to his senses and what else he can do after he turns good. You're right about Dabi's view on the world, and his inner conflict between Dabi and Touya, but I think that the last parts of humanity in Dabi that are his past self and by that I mean Touya are just too weak to matter the least. Dabi's soul just got corrupted too much, and his potential redeeming qualities are either non-existent or too weak to matter in Dabi's personality. Dabi is just too dominant and the "good side" of him that is Touya is extremely outmatched and I don't think anything can strenghten or at least develop his redemption possibility. I'd say that in Dabi/Touya's moral "composition" Dabi is 97% of his entire persona, and Touya is the rest 3%. I hope I explained my point of view well enough 🙂
