Will you dislike Sitar if you knew it was made by Amir Khusro 😝 and inspired by Veena and Sehtar ( Persian instrument).

It’s a shame many people only think of India in terms of bad stereotypes. Wish more would learn about their true amazing culture. Greetings from Denmark
i agree with this. i hate that people view india as cringe, poor, dirty or any other negative stereotypes that some meme created. i found the memes funny but there are people that genuinely think india is like everything they see in meme. when india has a rich, diverse, beautiful culture, traditional or modern. one of my favorite movie is from india, truly inspiring and educational (3 idiots) and their traditional culture is not to be questioned. theyre all fantastic. i'm not indian btw.

Well said. The day you attend one of these concerts is the day you'll understand how magnificent Indian classical music is. Your eyes open. What our culture is truly about. But it's not for everyone... to appreciate the fine and performing arts is so necessary in this time of strife and division... not everyone has the time, it seems. Disappointing. Very. Tampura is the Earth... the basis... the ground on which we can live, dance, and be. It’s the humble instrument which makes all possible
This is the instrument Anoushka would have been relegated to in India's classical music scene. Her father taught her like he would have taught his son but it is on the international stage that she is seen mostly. She adapted traditional ragas to what she names anourag. No alap and slow raga exposition, she knows what listeners are really avid for is teental, the quick movement. Her father has known and endured through a clannish grand master school. Some families had exclusive rights of teaching certain instruments like the bin dating back centuries to rajah decree.

Your'e absolutely right. I'm Indian, have been listening to Indian classical for a decade avidly. I still don't understand the 'ragas' and the rhythms. I too am still at a stage where I only enjoy it. Understanding it, takes dedication and learning!
TheMaskwa If you are listening to it from 10 yrs and liking it....you have understood it! Even if you may not know the names of things. I play a bansuri (indian flute) and still cant comprehend the subtle variations in the raagas.
Rushikesh Ashtikar :) But I am sure you can tell one raga and tala from another. I can't even do that. When people listen to Carnatic music, almost everyone follows it with their hands indicating the beat. For some time I thought they are faking it :P But then I realized everyone was generally doing it in synchronization so they must know what they are doing! :D
