  • Really glad you acknowledged Shin Megami Tensei as the flagship, rather than brushing it under the rug for Persona like so many other people would do. Persona is Shin Megami Tensei and it always will be. The biggest one, Persona 5 was not just a celebration of Persona but SMT as a whole, taking elements from almost every game.

    • @@usrnmntavlibl2666 Damn. I thought I found someone else who thinks DeSu is just ok as well. Personally, it feels really tropey to me. It also feels like it meanders for half the run time, always repeating themselves but never actually doing anything. The gameplay was also really easy for me. The worst part was that once characters joined your party, they would stop existing unless you had them in your party. I do like DeSu 2 quite a bit tho. Nearly all of my issues were fixed. I especially love how even when you don't have a character in your party, they are actually given something else to do in the narrative. It made everyone feel important. I was also a big fan of the way each day passed, how we had to prepare for each incoming boss fight, rather than just meander around and occasionally fight some ''out of control demon tamers'' for the dozenth time. I genuinely do want to like DeSu more, but every time I sit down to replay it, it has a really slow start and it's really boring for the first few days. I also really hate the extremely basic map design. It would be fine if they weren't used often, but they are way too overused in the free battles. Unlike in Fire Emblem, there seems to be only one route for each map since the AI is super basic and easy to exploit. The music is also really compressed and repetitive. If we do get a third DeSu, I would want it far more in line with DeSu 2. DeSu 2 had much more 3-Dimensional characters. People trash on it for having ''Persona esc'' mechanics, but that just means the characters have more character.

    • @@backupschmliff1156 i agree that people hate 2 too much, it’s a worse cast handled better in my opinion, and frankly Joe has to carry the enjoyment while you aren’t with the JP’s from other cities. But despite that it definitely is better from a gameplay standpoint, and while day 3 still spikes ten levels for no good reason as it did in the first game, you have access to more macca easier due to bonus actually functioning in a game changing way and not being a bonus of 20-30

  • That short history lesson at the beginning was cool, I love when KZheadrs go out of their way to do that and educate a younger audience. As for this video, lots of the first entries are understandable for being dead because they were a product of their time, simple arcade games made to be played in short bursts and going for that high score. The joke about taking a shot for every dead franchise was funny though. I wanted to ask how come Puyo Puyo is not Flagship? I could’ve sworn the whole series has outsold Atlus’ SMT and Persona series combined, even Sonic Team works on the Puyo Puyo Games. When I think of Sega as a company I think of Puyo Puyo as I’m sure many others do.

Which means it's dying slowly, suffering slowly... And the ones that are already considered dead don't have to suffer anymore. Zombie might be the second worse.

Also, you mentioned about taking shots for every "Dead" franchise. Make it easier for people and ask them to take a shot for every SEGA franchise, that isn't Sonic, Yakuza or Persona (or even Bayonetta), that received new entries in the past 5 years, and had people be like "SEGA finally remembers a franchise that isn't Sonic, Yakuza or Persona". • I really loved the editing, there were somewhat subtle touches that made everything really satisfying to watch. Always appreciate mentioning the music used too. Plus it was exciting to see VIRTUACOP3's CONFUSED FIGHT show up, I'd bet it's sourced from one of my uploads somewhere. Just a little warm-and-fuzzy that I made a difference. Seeing Iceferno's name was cool too, even if I haven't talked to him much. There is an angle where the research can seem a bit shallow, but considering it's covering every SEGA franchise... (minus regional exclusives) That's also when I come at it with my gut instinct and am comparing to my deep dives into smaller SEGA topics, and it's just not feasible to live life that way. I go way more surface-level with stuff that's outside my comfort zone all the time. The degree seems to fulfill the topic pretty well upon reflecting. (Also the computer's already telling you there's too much in here, it would hate my snobby advice) This is a hard for me to comment on as it's way outside what I typically cover, but I felt unconvinced some times when game reception got brought in. It's possible I've forgotten some variety, but wasn't it mistly just Metacritic? Are reviews applicable to how games were received at the time of release, or is it all modern reviews? Altered Beast for example, the scores completely burn it, but looking at Sega Retro's summation of scores from magazine reviewers of the time, it's mostly decent, averages around 60 across regions. (feels weird for me to criticise this, the rare times I talk about reception on Individual, I'm just parroting what a developer or a sales exec said once) Wasn't sure I would like this from the premise, but I quite liked it, will definitely be watching part 2 when you upload it. Enjoy!

  • Now that what I’m talking about, seeing the whole complete complication of franchise that is and now owned by SEGA turned into all in one (before the part 2) KZhead video for sure! I’m glad this video got recommended to me out of the blue because I don’t wanna go crazy to know what’s another SEGA series I can think of that isn’t Sonic or whatever else like After Burner (as dead as I can expect), ZAXXON (I think the zombie part was pretty obvious choice for this), Sega Rally (Super dead I’ll say due to this game didn’t get much treatment and have people barely talk about it), Ghost Squad (I wonder what’s tier list you’ll put for this game?) and more, if I wanted to keep going. Also… Enduro Racer is not on the list, I’m guessing this game didn’t necessarily have their own series other than the fact I seen it as Hang-On’s “forgotten” spinoff or what not, but yeah

  • Wonder Boy series has had a bunch of remakes, a successor game that ties in with the main games, and even a few fanmade games inspired by it recently. However before 2017 there was a massive drout so I wouldn't put this in "main stay" but more in the "It Exists" category. I'm a bit surprised but glad you didn't put every single SMT spin off game otherwise the video might be 3 hours long lol XD. I love SMT so much but... oh man. hehe.

    • @@MagillanicaLouM Their recent wonder boy collection was pretty dodgy n confusing. On switch few years ago there was one colelction which advertised having all the old games but digital versions only had 4 out of 20 various versions or something like that. while the limited physical version had those more games n various versions. However just recently they re-re-released the same collection digital only as Anniversary edition which now has those 20 versions. what sucks is that each version costs about £35 or £40 and I was pretty mad they didn't allow me to get the other games on my previous collection as DLC. What's confusing is that the boxart and even the menu presentation for these colelctions has the same art sooo it can be beginner's trap to tell what's what and.... oh boi now im confused now lol. no worries about the list but I had to mention more stuff tho. Yeah that Asha remake is pretty dodgy to, I've played much much worse games so I'll live with that.

In the last six years the franchise gets three full remakes, two of which are great, an admittedly dodgy collection and a full sequel in 2018... yet sits lower then Alex Kid and it's one iffy remake. I ain't mad though because that is the history of Wonder Boy. The greatest old timey series most people don't know or care about.

Puyo Puyo should definitely be in the Flagship tier because they really do care about this series. Since they started developing for the series in 2001, they've not only made games, but drama CDs, a musical, children's novels, a single manga, annual pop-up cafes (although they haven't done this post-pandemic), an eSports scene because of Puyo Puyo Champions, and countless merch.
