The ACCURACY of Blue Lock

As goofy and edgy as Blue Lock gets, I still think that the show has a lot of tactics and concepts that ACTUALLY kind of portray real-life football. With the world cup literally feeling like an anime, I thought I'd take a deep dive into just HOW realistic Blue Lock is.
I do not own any rights to the footage used. All credit goes to FIFA, with the use of footage from the 2022 World Cup as well as Kodansha with their rights to the anime Blue Lock. The usage of the clips fall under fair use.

  • Blue Lock is great, it's a shonen with football. I do think Blue Lock is better in terms of pure hype, but I do believe that Ao Ashi goes under the radar as the football anime. In Ao Ashi, they talk tactics, half spaces, positions, how youth football academies work, real life matches, etc.

    • Anime wise i definitely prefer blue lock for what it is. But manga wise i prefer ao ashi. But there's this manga that goes super underrated called Days, and personally it taught me much more about football( both when i was novice to it all and when i read it again with a bit more understanding) Ao ashi teaches some really decent tactics, but it also seems hyper focused on one type of playstyle being like ultimate When I read Days, it kinda compares and contrasts each moment and tactic, and different type of footballers and spectators derive different concepts from a particular play, and it gives you some really well rounded concepts that you can apply to both in real life and in football I definitely recommend Days as a manga(the anime didn't get a good enough budget to make it worth while)

Most famous artists are just insanely egotistical enough to make people believe in their art + the feeling of wanting to devour someone’s art, learn the secret tricks behind it and making it your own is too real.

  • The formula for success in football is not all about building a team around a star player. Neither the Barcelona, with Neymar, Suarez & Messi or the Iniesta, Xavi, Barcelona were a "one star" team (especially the latter, where teamplay was KEY to success, NOT ego & individual play). The CR7 Real Madrid era had the best midfielders and defenders to ever play the game. Messi is 100% NOT a egoist player, could be argued for Ronaldo, and Mbappe is not even close to those two. Sure, some games have huge individual performances but at the end of the day having a structured team with both solid defence and offense is what wins championships. Blue Lock is fun but it's very unrealistic.

    @sebastiaog9006@sebastiaog9006 Жыл бұрын
    • You're actually right, I feel like I shouldve changed my wording because yeah of course a team isnt ONLY run by 1 player. But you cant deny that some players are able to inspire their whole team. and I think you need some kind of sense of self importance to be that leader figure. In a literal sense yes its a team sport so of course the overall performance of every podition matters, but some teams do better when they are all inspired by a certain star player I think ill try to explain this point better again on part 2

    • Cap Messi could be considered an egoist, look at many of his solo goals there are many moments where he could have passed with a guaranteed goal but he didn’t and his team mates don’t argue because they know it’s Messi and I think the reason people consider Ronaldo an egoist is because he talks outside the game and of course Messi isn’t as much of an egoist as described in bl because it’s an anime and everything is exaggerated

  • I know the video is old, but I want to give my thougths: I think that what makes blue lock strikers so good is the level of consciousness that they put in a match, I mean, if you think in your goals or matches, normally you just run to one place to another without too much in your head, it just memory and being use to play in certain position. In blue lock, every character plays with an objective in his head and thinking what they did and what to do(what to improve and why they fails). I was trying to play against my friends with that in mind and I found that run less than before, but with better chances to score because I am in a better position, when I am deffending I try to look everyone in the field, so I am always thinking in the next pass, blocking that position instead of block the player. I am forcing my rivals to play as I want, in a low level, but I think that almost everything in blue lock is completly possible.

  • BTW, did you realize that Isagi's name sounds VERY similar to a one certain Italian top scorer of all time? Yes, Isagi is a reference of Filippo Inzaghi. My man possessed literally nothing special, average shot, terrible long shot, no dribbling skill, average speed, and bad air battle. Sound like a certain player we know in Blue Lock. However, his position? My man was named the King of Offside for a reason. The moment you took your eyes off of Inzaghi, he scores. His position and his direct shot got unmatched accuracy at the time. His position prediction was top notch. Most of his goals are inside the box no matter what.

  • As a football fan Blue Lock does not make sense but the thing is it does. Japan is a team who struggle winning world cup matches and it is not because that their teamwork is bad but they need a pure striker who can give goals rather than the team winning just barely by hanging on, saw the world cup this year , they got that far on teamwork if they got a world class striker they can be one of the powerhouses of football

  • As a football player, fan and enthusiast born and raised in Argentina (a football-obsessed culture) I just hate the whole 'egoism' part so much. It's supposed to be a commentary on japanese society which frowns massively upon such things, but it doesn't reflect the reality of football, one of the most tactically developed team sports out there. Sure, there is a certain level of self-confidence that is necessary to operate at an elite level, but that's the thing, that's the bare minimum. If anything, at a high enough level, it is precisely tactical and team awareness, communication, game-reading skills (which are essentially people-reading skills) and such collective play skills which make the great stand out from the good. It's literally one of the biggest differences between Ronaldo (pure ego) and Messi (ego+teamplay) and what basically makes Messi stand out above everyone else.

    • I mean, I didnt say ego was ALL YOU NEEDED. I was saying that it has SOME truth to it. And even with all the ego talk in Blue Lock there is still A LOT of teammwork shown. Even the show knows you cant win on your own. (Barou may be egotistic but he has passed many times when he absolutely had to)

      @itshyfen@itshyfen Жыл бұрын
    • Exactly, there's a reason why Ronaldo's in Saudi Arabia whilst Messi's still looking at playing high level European football. Confidence is mportant but key egoism like in Blue Lock is going to have you end up having a career like Ballotelli which is annoying how most of the fanbase go over the top with the whole egoism thing

  • for every ronaldo there is one marcelo or ozil or my boy benzi for every haaland there is KDB so that a footballer must be egoistic is not totally correct rather then being egoistic a striker should be brave and confident on their own strength that if times or situation needs they can create a magical moment out of nowhere..is a great striker
