Spot on man. I had an out of body experience during Eyes in Oakland Coliseum 1992. Pure magic. They had this round projection screen hanging over center stage with slow motion video of lovely hippie fam dancing to the music and I can say in all honesty it was the most profoundly beautiful moment I've had in my life.

Im an older dude now, but I grew up in the San Fran bay area during the '60s and moved to the mountains in '77, and my whole youth was immersed in a magical time. The counter culture, the beach, and this music! The stars were aligned in a special way back then and there. A concert ticket was $3.50., I pumped gas at 26 cents a gallon, and a jug of Dead Mountain Red was $1.50! HA! And the ladies OMG! .just lucky that's all.

Wherever Jerry is, he's bound to be feeling fine, that windblown grin just just oozes the triumphal "Damn we're still getting away with this!" Outlook. This mix is superb, Jerry sounds clear crisp & fully charged... his voice is mixed ideally right in the center & his delivery has clarity & Nuance, as appropriate. At the end Phil pulls Jerry back into the Eyes groove, then Jerry sticks it right back by taking HIS sweet time finishing his last round of solos. This track is a very fine iteration of this jewel. Too many versions are mixed in mud or the vocals leave Jerry sounding like he's grasping a whisper. Not here, Jerry is in fine form in voice & guitar. Gracias!

+hellhound551 That it was. I was there. Just like I was there for Roosevelt Stadium 74 (try that one and get back to me). Nassau 3/73's another very great one that I was present for :-) or that night in Springfield on 3/28 later that month as we went hyperdrive out of DS into Eyes. But this one, the first one, is stunningly BEAUTIFUL. It floats like a monarch along a dune line in the October sun, nectaring on goldenrod. Then flitting to another. Onto Michoacan. All in due time. Sometimes the most beautiful things in this life are the simple things. The subtle, the delicate.

👌✌️🙌💚
This is much better than the studio version, and for a debut it is confident and inviting. I suppose that is what makes the dead the greatest.
Every time I hear this song I just stop what am doing , sit down n smile and enjoy it , it’s a beautiful song

was lucky to see the Dead live 154 times, 1973 to 1995, still friends with many old heads.
THIS SONG....Perfect, when absolutely Sober, with Good Friends and High on Life!
Roger Kopet I wish I had those friends

Recently new dead head here. I have to say they all blow me away! Today was the first time I have ever heard this song. This song is amazing!!! I’ve Ben listening to it all night . I can only imagine what it was like seeing them live!
Corey Champine Welcome home
I saw Dead & Co back in 2016, it was absolutely amazing, life changing for sure
@Corey if you see this comment make sure you go see the band called "Joe Russo's Almost Dead"... Thank me later
@@_ganjaninja4202 If you want a seriously life changing experience make sure you catch the band Joe Russo's Almost Dead any chance you get
Live was pretty wonderful. A long time ago
The Dead blended psychedelic rock jazz and folk so well that they just were such a legendary band throughout history. Jerry was a genius guitarist and such a poetic visionary of his time.
well said.
Wish i could go back for just one night..
Try visiting a regional burn (similar to burning man, though often not in a desert) I think you'll find the culture and freedoms are alike in many ways.
Why ? No need to long for the past since all there is is the present. Be grateful for everything
Thank god for the dead they’ve saved a lot of people who are hurting
A fuckin men brother...stay blessed 🙏🏼
Sure did dead
🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 carried me through a lot since around 1974. blessed are the dead.
Yes ....thank GOD for GERRY AND THE REST OF THE FAMILY
@@loudfast1261 been listening to them since the 60s
Best song ever when you're really high. The kind of high where you are happy with where you are in life and you're nice and stoned listening to the grateful dead.
Spot on man. I had an out of body experience during Eyes in Oakland Coliseum 1992. Pure magic. They had this round projection screen hanging over center stage with slow motion video of lovely hippie fam dancing to the music and I can say in all honesty it was the most profoundly beautiful moment I've had in my life.
exactly where im at right now

Absolutely brother
Hell yeah brother. 😏👌
This song always makes me feel good.
so transcendental. i can taste it on the tip of my tongue. is it just me? 10 stars all around.
No, it's not just you.
Perfect description by the way.
Fuckin A
Whenever you feel hopeless or rundown the dead are always there to help me see the light, don’t know what I’d do without them
Can you imagine being in attendance at this first Eyes performance? People were probably stunned by this new jam.
and spun out
AOB dude, well said
I didn't go to a lot of dead shows, I went to a few and 'stunned" is one of the best words to describe the feeling.
They were prolly too stoned to remember it now lol
This one & imagine the first Terrapin!
The first Eyes ever. My favorite Dead song of all time. Thanx for posting this.
Anyone who gives this a thumbs-down must be living a horrible nightmare inside their mind.
My olman was a deadhead he turned me and I lost him to cancer I couldn't even listen to then for a Long time it's nice to listen to then now and get that good feeling my kids and grandkids listen to then they're timeless
I loved the parking lot since. Could last for days in between shows.peace and love ❤️ thanks 8888
You Boomers had by far the best music, literature, and film. It must've been a magical time.

Absolutely lovely, nothing like it! Just wish KZhead didnt play ads in the middle of this composition

72-74 recordings are just magic.
WOW ...yes, but then , I think all the 70 s were great, and even into the 80s ..90s...I just think they really lost something special when Brent was no longer around...
Period
I cry when I listen sometimes
On point
Absolutely my favorite Dead!
Row Jimmy, Loose Lucy, Here Comes Sunshine, They Love Each Other, Eyes of the World, China Doll & Wave That Flag (an early version of US Blues) all made their debuts on this fine evening... coincidentally it was also the debut of a new sound system, later to be dubbed "The Wall of Sound"... one of the very best shows you'll find...
fuck yeah!
WoS made it to 77? I thought it was pieced in the 76 break.
@@nmax696 I think they stopped using the WoS after 74.

I love Jerry Garcia so much!!
This is so beautiful it brings tears.

The first time, I saw them as the Warlocks. My last time was at Shoreline, Jerry's last California concert. Alpha/Omega. It truly was a bizarre day. Thanks to Tiffany and Robert. Tri-Bolbus

No man, just say no to mid song ads.
The clever combination of a pop-up ad and syphilis.
Eyes… my happy place- love that learning it on guitar was an almost endless wealth of knowledge on how an E major 7th (EM7) can be played… as well as many other marvelous lessons. Thank you for sharing.
Love the Phil boms! ✌️
First eyes best eyes ❤ So exceptionally beautiful 👀❤️
Hearing this Eyes is the moment that made it all start making sense. Keep it going! ☮
Utopia at its best... And what's even better - it's HERE and NOW, for all of us!

This is their best song.
"The eye is the finest thing in the human form"

Anytime I need a spiritual or emotional lift? I listen to this track. Never fails to turn that frown right side up and into a grin. That's why I LOVE THE GRATEFUL DEAD.
Like the fleeting glimmer of sunlight on a passing dolphin, the beautiful scales and accouterments take me to another place, one that knows only beauty.

Are you kidding, i been to there concerts back then. Electric Kool Aid was floating around, take a sip and pass it on, then in the show going on big fan's would blow smoke into the audience, you have to have been there to experience it.

@@moheganson 2/9/73~~ Stanford U/ Palo Alto, 1st time ever palyed
Gracias!
albert miller best version ive heard
start a new month with a new mood! happy happy joy joy!

The dead helped me come back to my innerself and understated who I truelly am that I was born to be a musician and no one can take that away from me. To discover that I myself was the eyes of the world to help those in need with addiction and the suffering of pain that I once went through myself. Keep truckin ☯️
Always good to see the World through a new set of Eyes.
Thank God for the people who do for themselves beg unto none
the 1977 version at Englishtown Nj was one of the best .....just amazing jam
+hellhound551 by far the best...Jerry covers rock, jazz, fusion r&b, and every other style in 16 minutes...this one is great , too
+hellhound551 That it was.
I love that one. I also love 11-11-73. Its my favorite pre-hiatus version
Was at that show. This was my first show. Missed the first few days of collage because of the show. Great time. Was hooked hard.
I always enjoy the extended prologue versions of eyes! Seriously mood altering in a most positive way.
Makes me feel light and fluffy. Jerry take me away!!!!

Yep, Jerry was real good at that, probably the best. Could make a whole damn stadium levitate. Ha!
