This is one of the few Floyd numbers that David Gilmour wrote entirely himself. And it's fantastic. I love this kind of dreamy, psychedelic folk-rock. It reminds me a bit of the Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane, with a bit of Black Sabbath thrown in.
The music itself is already brilliant and the wonderful video makes it even more visible.
Indeed. Another brilliant example of the musical perfection of Pink Floyd.
after 40 years listening Pink Floyd I can recognize this is one of the best PF's pieces. Great Gilmour.
Ummagumma is a brilliant LP and really cemented PF into the pantheon of great bands, though they still weren't largely experienced until Meddle. I made a point to see them live in concert in '71 because of the live recordings on Ummagumma and was blown away. I saw them again in '72 (the meddle and DSOTM concerts) and to this day, they are the two best concerts I ever saw ... nothing else was even close. Extraordinary musicianship and a true emotional involvement with the work. Very little mention is made of their 4 channel live PA, which added to the entire experience.
I was 14 as i bought The Wall. A few weeks later i looked through my uncles record collection and found Ummagumma. Fascinated by the cover art i asked him if he would lend me the record for a week so i have time to record a cassette tape. He looked an just said:"Ah that shit? Oh,you can have it. I don't listen to it anyway." As i listened for the first time ,the live record surprised me how awesome Floyd was in th early days. Then the studio record completely blew my young mind. I was like "ah, now i understand THAT'S Psychedelic Rock(without any knowledge about what Psychedelic really means)
so true bro, this is one of thier most over looked albums, if you haven't checked it out yet look into obscured by clouds, great album ZinTravels - Instagram
Check out Pipers at The Gates of Dawn too (if you haven't done already)
I remember as today, first time I had The Wall lp, it was gift from a friend comming from Europe. I changed from that moment, including my hand writing look, trying to reproduce them from Pink Floyd's lp. Then, each time I was to The Mall I tried to collect all of them.
Be sure to review Syd Barrett’s catalog as well.
I had very similar experience. When I was 14, I got the Wall on DVD. I have an older sister who got the record in 1980 and I had been borrowing it, until she finally asked for it back (mid 1980's). So anyway she had a copy of A Saucer Full Of Secrets. I loved the cover on it. I asked to borrow it. I didn't like it at first. But then I fell in love with in. I still have that record.
When you listen to these really early Floyd gems, The Wall seems almost lame by comparison. THIS is the Floyd I grew up with! Ummagumma and Meddle were really something special. Gilmour's vocals are absolute perfection. 1967 to 1977 is the best 10 year period in the history of rock music. So glad I lived through it...
Enfim..
So am I.
Not at all lame, but I know what you're saying. This is what I love about Pink Floyd, they were an art band.
This is cool and all, but it doesn't compare to their later albums (include 'The Wall').
💯💯💯🌹🫶😊❤️
Pink Floyd 1969-1971, minha fase preferida, meio tétrico, meio down, complexo, profundo. Verdadeiras obras de artes musicais.
soy de acuerdo
Love and peace from England 🇬🇧 dude 😊
I’ve been to so many places with this song.. and I’ve just been sitting in my room.. out of my mind.. living life to its fullest.. this song definitely takes you to the most magical and mysterious places that I’ve ever been :)
1st album I heard w headphones (& stoned) was '73. Ummagumma
The Narrow Way...a song about transformation, Birth! the Narrow Way. The struggle to survive any hardship, with narrow space to navigate through. A meditation on death & rebirth. Not unlike many of Davids songs on transmutation, Childhoods End, This song typifies the strength he brought to the Floyd table.
Hello. Pink Floyd, was way ahead of it's time.. With Syd Barrett, at the helm they had all of this experimental sound altering devices. Before foot pedals, and synthesizers.. Truly engenius, very original. And they always were, and are!! They did things that no other band whatever touch
My God! This tune is almost half a century! God bless Pink Floyd for their awesome music!
PINK FLOYD, had three different eras .And the music dramatically changed. But still all of it was original. telling true stories that still apply today .They sincerely played from the heart.Pink Floyds music was all extremely emotional. they were so brilliant throughout all of their history. they never gave in to the man, if you know what I mean. They never sold their souls!! They remain pure, and extremely talented !! Yes, they did break up. And as most breakups are, it was horrible.. But in the end Rodger Waters, and David Gilmour, both had some very successful albums after The Break-Up.... They were all extremely creative. And each one of them played a vital role in Pink Floyd!! Syd Barrett, Roger Waters, Nick Mason, Rick Wright, and David Gilmour, God bless you all !!
@DanGall13 Also don't forget Atom Heart Mother. For me one of the best albums. But as was already written above each album has it's own unique strenght and magic.
@DanGall13 Really great album, Atom Heart Mother and Echoes are like symphonies really wonderful I think that Waters said in the interview that he doesn't like Atom Heart Mother and I was like WTF
Buenas comoestamos
Bale poreso
This song was released in 1969? Still sounds super fresh today. Hypnotic.
Absolutely fantastic piece of music , never heard anything like it before, another masterpiece by pink floyd, these musicians were light years ahead of there time!
Buen tema
the narrow way part 3 is the most underrated pink floyd song
I never understood why this wasn't released as a single, a bit of remixing to bring out Dave Gilmour's great vocals, love his multi tracked harmonies
Amen!
It’s a masterpiece That gets stuck in your head. When a band is so talented, it’s hard to keep listening to ALL the best of it..we need more Time! Edit: A “friend, or acquaintance of a friend” stole half of Ummagumma from my large CD case. Of course it’s The half with THIS SONG. I hope that they feel a similar emptiness one day when they are looking for one of their favorite music products. Sorry, had to blow off some very old steam. I lost this CD 💿 before my life destroying Car Accident (not my fault- rear ended by two cars 🚗 going 40...) and it reminds me of wonderful days of my life before a over a decade long health hell. I long for those stolen days and years... this song really captures a beautiful place in time. Blessings.
I guess it is an underrated Gilmour song, as it is not Pink Floyd
@@tiffanyhouchin6055 Despite original poster wasn't talking about sentimental value we add to the music, that reminded me of my huge appreciation for the album More. My dad used to have a pirate cassette of it when I was a kid, years before even marrying my mother and getting divorced afterwards. Great days without knowing that he was a cheater and coke head. All my parents' tapes were gifted unfortunately; my decision to keep them didn't count.
Nada... Nadie. Eres único!
Gracias ! 😊
after listening to this song for years, and seeing this for the first time, I'm really quite surprised! ive always said that this song SHOWS how influential david Gilmour really was in creating the pink Floyd that made super stardom! no discredit to waters wrighting either! but davids guitar playing! davids voice and singing style? along with Richard wrights keyboard playing style is what MADE the pink Floyd that reached super stardom! as much respect as I have for syd, he never would have made it as far as david took them....
The were definitely the musical side of Pink Floyd. I think this song and many others draw -- in a broad sense -- from the German romantics such as Kasper David Friedrich and Goethe.
To me it was the Gilmor/Waters collaboration that made them great. The lyrics from waters on Dark Side and The Wall were great, but the music written by Gilmor for those lyrics and songs like Wish you were Here highlight how great the pair were. Listen to Brick in the Wall pt2, or Comfortably Numb live since they went separate ways, neither one sounds as good as when they sing it together. Waters lower range and trance like voice followed or layered with Gilmores melancholic higher voice (That sounds very British compared to Waters) is where the magic was imo. Wish you were here is the only one Gilmore can sing with out Waters and it still sounds alright, but i still prefer the pair together.
I have this on record. Original pressing & not a scratch. As my stylus is now too worn to play, I'm grateful that people are taking the time to share the music they enjoy. Thanks for uploading all 3 parts to this trippy composition from Gilmour.
Bought a new stylus yet?
@@alantattersall3190 Yes I have! I've actually bought a whole new turntable!
@@deltadesign5697 Ha!Congratulations! Sunday morning here in Oz and Obscured is on the deck as we speak. B&O Beogram 4002 through Beomaster 2400amp (1978) to Wharfedale E70's(1979).
@@alantattersall3190 Nice! I'm just across the ditch. Obscured is my wife's favourite Floyd album, she even listened to it whist having an MRI! We're gonna play it now. AudioTechnica AT-LP120X thru OnkyoA-8057 amp via EQ290 into modified Wharfdale speakers. Enjoy your Sunday brother
@@deltadesign5697good kit and you married well my friend. Never understood why PF were such a 'boy's' thing with so much emotional content both musically and lyrically. My partner is a musician and she never listened to PF until we met. Now she has no choice! I've been a Floydian since '67 and hardly a day goes buy without I listen to Echoes at least once.
Oh, what a ride... This has always been a fave of mine. Classic Floyd all the (narrow) way.
Essa eu não conhecia. Caramba meu!!!!!! Que viagem!!!!! Que som lindo, foda!!!!! E que letra!!!!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🎙️🎼🎶🎸🎵
excellent

nothing can beat it. NOTHING
⚬ Excelentes Obras-Primas do Pink Floyd... Parabéns ao Notável Canal. Gratidão. 🌻🐦
Psychedelic masterpiece.
David Gilmour's first composition for Pink Floyd and lyrics
Thanks, I didn't know. Bought Ummagumma in 1973 after hearing Dark Side of the Moon. This was my favorite track. The lyrics especially brought me to a whole other world in my imagination.
That's not his first composition
First Gilmour's composition for Pink Floyd was a Spanish Piece on the More album
Following the path as it leads towards the Darkness in the North Weary strangers' faces show their sympathy They've seen that hope before And if you want to stay for a little bit Rest your aching limbs for a little bit Before you the night is beckoning And you know you can't delay You hear the night birds calling you But you can't touch the restless sky Close your aching eyes beyond your name Mist is swelling, creatures crawling, Hear the roar get louder in your ears You know the folly was your own But the force behind can't conquer all your fears And if you want to stay for a little bit Rest your aching limbs for a little bit Before you the night is beckoning And you know you can't delay You hear the night birds calling you But you can't touch the restless sky Close your aching eyes beyond your name Throw your thoughts back many years To the time when there was life in every morning Perhaps a day will come When the nights will be as on that morning And if you want to stay for a little bit Rest your aching limbs for a little bit Before you the night is beckoning And you know you can't delay You hear the night birds calling you But you can't touch the restless sky Close your aching eyes beyond your name Rest your weary head, be on your way.
great poetry there. if you're into poetry check out jjcreator.blogspot.com

Thank You Andrew, have been looking for lyrics to this song a very long time!
But you can't catch the words they say *
Close your aching eyes and be on your way*
Melhor banda de todos os tempos... O vídeo está à altura, muito bom. Obrigado!
A mis 45 años y apenas hoy escucho esta canción. Gracias... Gracias.. Gracias!!!
Kudos to the person who's keen eye and ear merged this video animation with this song. It's perfect. Almost as if they were made for each other but never met until you introduced them to one another. A job well done!
This is by far, one of the coolest things I have seen in a LOOOONG time!
Obrigada por postar as traduções. Sério ajuda muito!

Talk about bringing back memories , this was beautiful and my humble opinion," the best "group that "ever lived !!" thanks for bringing back memories! GOD BLESS. And a special shout-out to Syd Barrett , rest in peace " Shine On, You Crazy ,"Diamond" !!!!!
Caroline 2017 Don't leave out Rick
Love ❤️ you Syd! Poor talented beautiful (hot!) man who took too much... hmmm I wonder (what exactly is it that he was taking other than acid?) the way David helped Syd produce his own music after his departure from Pink Floyd was so unique especially since he replaced him and he had some amazing work! I really love the song “Baby Lemonade!” Chris Cornell performed the song “Baby Lemonade” at a live performance and I was pleasantly surprised! He really caught the vibe and he was an amazing guitarist. I love everything That Chris Cornell was a part of, another gift to music thanks to influential bands like Pink Floyd! R.I.P. 🌹Syd and Chris Cornell 🌹 #justiceforchris
You're right Shine on your crazy Diamond . Syd Barret RIP.
Perfeito!!! Parabéns! Na parte lll, a morte, o nada, a separação (assim percebo). Excelente!
Ars longa, vita brevis...
One of my 1st. And favorite Pink Floyd songs I've heard of as a kid in 1970. PINK FLOYD for the meditative mind Always 😍😌
The Narrow Way & Tortov Roddle go together perfectly. Thank you for putting them together. I love watching this.
I can't believe I've never seen this video before it's great.... love floyd
Just reading where David said this was one he regretted and has never listened to, shame it is some his best work IMO
In my Pink Floyd top 5 songs.

What a band! What a great and mystical combination of blokes! It’s amazing to consider how lucky we are to have this amazing group, with and without Syd 😔😢! Thanks be to the universe for Pink Floyd! 🌹♥️✨🎶✨
Never seen this animation before, it is brilliant! Reminds me of Cat Steven's album artwork somewhat. Thanks for the share!
It's been a long time since I played that song and the film you put with it was great!
Thank you ThinkFloyd61 for posting this. I have the album on vinyl and along with Grandchester Meadows it's my favorite song from the studio part.
Melhor que os originais. Sou fã a 35 anos e o seu trabalho e impecável!Parabéns!

Excellent film for a beautiful track. Thank you ❤️
Six hits of gooney bird and this album took me so far outside my body the journey back was as beautiful as letting go so I could.

This is breathtaking. Take me back to being a little girl watching Yellow Submarine and other obscure works. They bring me comfort.
your videos are amazing dear the animation with the music is so catchy .. thanks 4 uploading keep going :))
I used to play this track quite a bit in the 70s / 80s, to be honest most of the studio album kinda freaked me out (still does)then again it was pretty experimental and I recall both Gilmour and Waters saying that they cannot listen to it. ....Following the path as it leads towards the Darkness in the North Weary strangers faces show their sympathy They've seen that hope before.... - the sense of foreboding is embedded in the lyrics as much as the unusual chord changes on this track Thanks for the upload and vid - an interesting synergy.
"hur hum" But you can't catch the Masters slegde.
Bellissimo. Uno dei pezzi piu belli di "ummagumma" 😊
viagem total, genial!!!! música, vídeo, é PF! Obrigada ThinkFloyd61
Absolutely Ambient ! David outdid himself with this great track...nice animation sync.
The three most important entities to exist and walk on this planet in all of time my wife Jimi Hendrix David gilmour and James Shorter without them to lean on
Další skvělá , krásná věc.♥️♥️♥️👍👍👍💯👏👏👏
Best song from Ummagumma and one off my favorite Gilmore pieces period!
Thanks for sharing,shared.
Love it!! Bellisimo cartoon. Love and peace from England 🇬🇧
Fantastic! I love the synch with the animation
Thank you, David. Forever
AMAZING VIDEO AND SOUND MIX!!! I SALUTE YOU MY FRIEND FOR THIS SPECTACULAR EXPERIENCE! HUGE ETERNALLY THANKS! YOU ARE TALENTED!
Perfect....just before my buzz goes away...excellent gob guys....
I just took 2 tabs this is trippy asf
Stunningly beautiful!
There will never I repeat never a band like this one David gilmour thanks for the years Pink Floyd awesome I have every album ever made
Marivilhoso, excelente!!!
Rubens Filho people who say Floyd was not artsy enough when Syd left never listened to this album.
Excelente canción, Felicitaciones a toda la banda Pink Floyd...!
"The Narrow Way" from the album Ummagumma is a song that make's you feel if your traveling in a journey threw time.I love this album.I hear it more than the classic albums from Pink Floyd.
Pink Floyd !!!
Buentema
Let me tell you something: I play LOTR rpg with a group of friends. It was almost the same time when I started playing and discovering the experimental era of Pink Floyd, and this in my teenager years. My mind was (and still doing) very creative and imaginative and Ummagumma became an excelent ambient album to me by relate to all the adventures in Middle Earth. So I can tell you what I picture with The Narrow Way: Part 1: takes part in a warmy sunny midday, in a path in a forest. The group of adventurers are composed by elves, dwarves, humans and hobbits. They're walking, exploring, talking and planing the journey. The group is fine and happy. Part 2: they see at the distance a group of orcs and they are stunned, but rapidly they take their weapons and fight them. It took so much time the battle, they end very wounded and tired. Part 3: The sun goes down and the night begins, with much difficulty and despondent they see light from a village, they are welcome and the villagers help them with a smile and good disposition, They have a treatment for their wounds, a plate of food and a good rest. "Following the path as it leads towards The darkness in the North Weary strangers' faces show their sympathy They've seen that hope before" It's a very beautiful picture from my head and my inspirations that I couldn't keep for myself, I needed to share with you! I love how Pink Floyd can create beautiful worlds and scenarios.
Afinal, eles estavam fazendo somente experimentalismos nesse ummagumma. O video ficou show!
I as well do not comprehend the band's adamant distain for the album
Misterios jorram ... Criaturas rastejam...
My favorite band!
Thank you for that great Animation Work , it fits perfektly.....
Excelente !
great video, thank you!
Magnifique magique vidéo comme dabitude j'adore ! 👌🔈🔉🔊🎧👍💞🎸
EU AMO PINK FLOYD ETERNAMENTE PERA TODO SEMPRE
Awesome as usual Pink Floyd. Weird character Tortov Roddle, quite similar in character and almost similar strange life especially the last part. It`s always a joy to re-visit and watch this video.
whomever did this....BRILLIANT!!!I love it.It helps me not to let my mind ,Obscured W/Clouds
I'd like your take on "Alans' psychedelic Breakfast","Bike" or maybe,"The Gnome".I love the pre-Dark SideOf the Moon" the best!😧R.I.P. Syd&Richard. Both highly under rated!Where would the Floyd be W/O their influences?Would they put out the same level of.,.Experimentations we now come to cherish?Richards also the ONLY one of the Floyd who went to school perticularly for music. To bad Roger with his narscisim had to jettison (in my humble opinion)his less than Stellar post-PF.I love him but...How many times have I listened to Radio K.A.O.S.?My copy has about an inch of dust on it!It was a good tour but...He needed his past catalog to fill seats.Amazing what a couple micrograms of L.S.D.can accomplish.
I love pink Floyd umagguma was a big fave thanks for this tho awesomeness
