  • Ten years ago I met the most amazing man on Elton John's website forum (now defunct). He lived in England and me in the USA. We sent tens of thousands of emails to each other over three years, and spent hundreds of hours on the phone. Finally, we met. Ten months later Nick proposed to me during this song, 'The One' during Elton's concert in Scarborough, UK. We were married four months later in England and I moved there permanently. In October we will celebrate our 6th anniversary. In two weeks we are seeing Elton in Leeds, for my 50th birthday!

    • I thought I did. We seen Elton maybe 5 /10 years ago and during this song I reached over and held my wifes hand. She was surprised. I don't know why I have been known to be romantic but with next week our 42 anniversary she left almost a year ago without notice, with no contact. I tried to kiss her in our front yard as she was leaving to go be with someone else and I knew it was over.

  • I was 13 when "The One" was released. Elton certainly wasn't considered "cool" by most young teen standards, but I listened to this song over and over again. Thirty years later it's still my favorite Elton John song. An absolute masterpiece, and the greatest love song ever.

    • Sebastian Georgieff You're right, it was big when it came out and I remember hearing it a lot on my mom's adult contemporary radio station as a little kid, but after his Lion King songs came out in '94 it seemed to be forgotten and you never hear it on the radio anymore, so I guess that's why I said it's underrated.
