But people have their nostalgia goggles on so tight that they forgot what the OG show's animation even looks like.

I really do feel that everything that fans love and cherish about this show (and the original series to a degree), are what Martin generally dislikes about the show lol. Everyone’s entitled to their own opinions and tastes. But it’s kinda disingenuous to have this air of “well, this isn’t working”, when it is clearly working for the masses so far, both fans and casual/new viewers. At least he copped to liking this ep lol.

This show has reminded me why I used to love the X-Men. After a good 20 years of just not digging the direction of the comics this feels like X-Men to me again. The action, the soap opera elements, the character interaction.
I've felt the same way about the X-Men comics too,haven't watched the new X-Men toon yet tho. But,you don't need to show blood and guts ( and say curse words either ) to tell your story effectively or to show your heroes getting hurt or killed. Just give me characters you can care about,well developed villians and good story-telling.
While i will agree that most of the time Rogue's voice is noticeably older, I thought she brought it this episode. Several times, especially her last line, wrecked me.
The Animation was soo Good during the battle, when I was rewatching the OG X-men while it still holds up, the action is very noticeably dated but understandably so. A part of me lowkey wanted some Action scenes from the original re-animated like they did here cause damn that intense AF

it kinda HAS to be because of how naturally and organically convoluted and "crowded" the cast/plotlines can be. the soap opera cringe adds a layer of comedic relief.

Beau DeMayo explained the origin of this episode and it really moved me. He said Genosha was supposed to be the Pulse Nightclub in Orlando. Gay men were the mutants enjoying being with each other and being themselves, and then without warning, the shooter, or sentinels come in to eradicate them out of hate.
Black citizens know about this all too well-Blackwallstreet 1921,except this was an entire town laid to waste,more than 300 innocent,black,citizens killed by wht racists. Even US planes dropped bombs on this town,even Hitler didn't do this to Jews in Germany,how can you bomb your own people and a town in america ??? Lol Why is Martin harping on the X-Men “finally” dressing outside of their uniforms when at the mansion/casual settings? They’ve consistently shown the team (with minor exceptions), wearing casual or comfy clothes at home, or in different non-mission settings lol. For Christ’s sake, Gambit was in a goddamn crop top in episode 1, and the team were in fitness clothes playing basketball lol.
I love it. People are clamoring for Beau DeMayo to get rehired. Just shows how good writing changes opinions no matter what someone supports.

I'm pretty sure this is the first time the original animated series has ever openly depicted imagery referencing Magneto's Holocaust upbringing with the internment camps, accurate Nazi soldiers and the Star of David. Like kudos to both Marvel and the creators for leveraging the fact they aren't bound to the extreme constraints that the original show was under back then, and for portraying the extremely messy, complicated relationship dynamics among the X-Men. Felt like a bonafide Claremont-style soap opera with how many people were seeing other people behind each other's back Also loved the Cyclops speech. He's always been doing things in service of mutants before anyone else and it was a great way of capturing how he's philosophically bridging the gap between Xavier's pacifism and Erik's militant attitudes

Mannn, I been the biggest Gambit fan since I was a kid. I used to have his action figure. In marvel games, id pick him etc. I been waiting on newer content with him since he was never in the MCU. I mean, there was that Tubi version of him in Origins but whatever. When he got stabbed in this episode. I just hit the Lil Boosie "COME OOON MAAAANE!!" 😅 I felt bad for magneto too, for all he's been thru, trying to find redemption. Then to have it end like that. Hopefully Cable can come back and stop the attack before it happens.

This episode and Invincible are the most recent examples of superhero animation that I felt the threat level of the antagonist was pure dread and hopelessness. That was handled GREAT. That's something I feel like they shouldn't undo via time travel or some BS. Work with the consequences that follow in the story.
You should watch some Japanese animation. Some like jujutsu kaisen. Attack on titan, demon slayer final season material have just as good animation and steaks with full cast wipes level of threats or injuries with limps and eyes etc. and its modern so pacing isn’t like you remember in dbz or something from the old days.

@@SilhouettedAnimator I feel ya. Xmen is animated well and looks and feels great. Anime has a bad rep but its like any other medium, bad stuff and good. Im like korey in that i see the main stuff thats good or mainstream fun. But the reason i mentioned those series are that they keep the look atleast of characters unique vs say your generic anime that looks like pokemon. Not that that's bad but i get your reasoning. I'd wager you never looked at attack on titan cause they use some realistic interpretation of human anatomy in final season. Even double toasted watches and likes attack on titan. Demon slayer is a bit what you describe, but the intensity of some fights are great but i'd just view the climax fights, since the acting will annoy you. But I'd say Jujutsu kaisen also goes against the huge eye thing besides a few the people are drawn normal. And there is a plot line very similar to the xmen episode and animated even crazier. Like an entire episode of nonstop action...throught an entire city, fights in a bathroom inspired by the raid film, a fight in a subway, etc. Attack on titan on imdb is rated up there with breaking bad and game of thrones. I see your point i'd just give it a quick youtube search in case it changes your mind.
X-Men 97 is way better than The entire Fox X-Men franchises and Wolverine solos.. Cyclops and Rogue done right Storm not pushed to the background And every other team member is highlighted.

Koreys insistence on cartoons being "mature and real gritty" is reaching Zack Snyder-levels. Like hes getting really excited when theres a drop of blood in a cartoon.
Im disappointed some much of the fan reaction is excited to see some blood or deaths. There is time travel so even if there are consequences some details will change or an attempt to. Even if it's a nexus event or fixed point it seems like many fans are forgetting or ignoring character moments. Or that there was violence albiet less maybe graphic in the 1993 series and in this series earlier like ep 3. We've seen deaths in what if and the mcu and the original 1993 series. I feel some fans are distracted and idk if it's going to be wise in the long run. It's like man of steel all over again

I think this show, so far as a whole, has been a perfect comfort show. I just find myself smiling the whole way through. In regards to pacing in certain episodes, it kind of reminds me of what it's like reading comics. I mean, there are countless stories and versions of the X-Men that all just become this blur of certain lore consistency that makes up that universe. Reminds me of the Justice League Unlimited cartoon.
This was the 1st animated project I ever shed tears at.

@@TheDCbiz the animation, the writing, and the level of insane detail put into every episode genuinely makes it special. They could have easily half assed it, made the animation bog standard, something more akin to Invincible (which is still good, but lacks some fluid animation). But they went all out like the Castlevania show did, and combined that with thoughtful biting commentary that the xmen has always been known for.

The first season of X-MEN 97 will have 10 episodes. FYI, syndicated and cable TV animated kid shows in the 80's and 90's could show people getting killed and some blood. GARGOYLES, THE LEGEND OF PRINCE VALIANT, THE ADVENTURES OF THE GALAXY RANGERS, MIGHTY MAX, EXO-SQUAD, IRON MAN (the awesome 2nd season), FANTASTIC FOUR (the awesome 2nd season), ROUGHKNECKS STARSHIP TROOPERS, THE ROSWELL CONSPIRACIES, and some anime series (like ROBOTECH and STARBLAZERS) showed people getting killed and showed some blood. They even allowed some mild language in those shows like "hell", "badass", and "wiseass".
Haven't watched the video yet but did y'all see The Watcher? I had to back it up to see if i wasn't going crazy!

Yeah but it was Morph. That’s not exactly high stakes. Morph was only in the show to be killed off. It didn’t mean as much as a fan favorite like Gambit being killed off.

He doesn't die in the first episode. They think they he did but at the start of season 2, hes there under Mr Sinister's control, being a fake priest for Scott and Jeans wedding. He is in the final episode of season 5.
He was put in as a plot point to move the storyline and then the studio forced the writers to bring him back at the start of season 2.
