  • Je me souviens très bien de cette magnifique joueuse, qui a fait une carrière très respectable. Par contre,je ne savais pas qu'elle parlait un aussi bon français.❤

  • This was a great profile. Virginia Ruzici was before my time. I didn't start playing tennis until 1982/1983. I really liked her style of play. She hit the ball with confidence and went for her shots. Very nice.

  • Elle reçoit son trophée de finaliste 1980 avec son sac à main. La classe. Une belle joueuse physiquement aussi.

  • I think she was Simona Halep's manager when she beat Sloane Stephens to win Roland Garros in 2018. Very stylish lady and that reflected in her brand of tennis.

    • i don't know why, but she reminds me a lot of shalom harlow, the supermodel.. either from her confidence, or her style..

  • This was great. I’ve never heard of Virginia Ruzici. She had a killer forehand in that era!

  • I do miss that era, it was such a beautiful tennis! And remember, they used wooden raquets! It's amazing how skilled they were.

    • Exactly. Tennis is magical and an art when the ball is hit slow. It’s an art and requires craft. Todays tennis is horrible. It’s not tennis anymore. The equipment today provides everything to the player. No need to develop the skills. Tennis is art. A Broadway show. A Shakespeare okay. It used to have personalities. It’s now robotic and void of any of what it was.

  • Ruzici… after Evert, the finest clay court record of her generation… forehand was huge… moved like a panther… and wore the fuck outta of Ellesse in its prime… superb tennis player 👏

  • She was a very agressive player who hit the ball so hard with her wooden rackets and who could attack with her forehand and backhand. Nevertheless she was lucky because all the best players skipped the French Open from 1976-1978 due to World Team Tennis. She then reached the finals of 1980 but was beaten by Chris, who was invincible on clay during that time. She never beat Chris in her career and Chris could have easily won the 3 French Open titles between 1976-1978, as she never lost to any of the 3 Winners ladies at all. Especially not on clay, while she was on her 169 Match winning streak from 1973- 1979. Vrigina was so powerful, that Richard Williams was impressed and he wanted his daughters to play as agressive as her.

  • Hum about chances of beating Evert on clay during those years. Evert lost one match on clay from 1974-81....something like a 160-1 record. Mais Ruzuci parle meuveillement français.

    • Ruzici has never beaten Evert on any surface. Evert leads H2H 19-0.

  • she was fun to watch...and if I knew one of her matches were going to be televised somehow, I wouldnt miss it. And I didnt care if she won or lost, because I just enjoyed watching her. Ive said it before, I'll say it again..before Graf, there was Ruzici. Whenm you talk about the players that gave birth to "big babe tennis', Virginia doesnt get mentioned because she came a generation before the Davenports and Pierces...but I like to think of her as 'the Mother of big babe tennis', by virtue of her really being the first to start the trend of dominating matches with one huge shot...that forehand.

  • So beautiful to see the elegant tennis of back then with women actually hitting one handed back hands. Now they play all the same. I just call it the clone wars now.

  • Evert decided to play World Team Tennis instead of the French Open in 1978. Slams weren't considered as important as they are now otherwise Evert and Navratilova would have won more slams. Ruzici can consider herself lucky that Evert or Navratilova didn't participate that year.
