Happy Birthday, 50 is the best and it only gets better! Southeastern Minnesota is where you need to come in the winter for American Eagles,, which are here all year not far from the Narional Ealgw Center in Wabasha, MN. There are some Golden Eagles that come to winter in and around the Whitewater Wildlife Management area. The Amercan Ealges can be found in open water areas of the MIssissippi River that don't freeze over in the winter, it my understanding that's part of the reason the National Eagle Center landed in Wabasha. Also, Ealges nest all over the area, just now starting to sit on the nests. I would love to host your visit here and could get you touch with some excellent resources and as someone else mentioned the Saz-Zim Bog, not that long of a drive from here and great for a variety of Owls including the Snowy Owl and Three toed woodpeckers. So much here in Minnestoa. I was recently in Florida and did some bird photography, Roseate Spoonbill was on the top of my list, success!
Thanks for all the great info. Email me marksmithphotos@gmail.com
@@MarkSmithphotography I sent an email a couple weeks ago subject line Minnesota Eagles and so much more!
Enjoy your WELL-earned break and Fiftieth Birthday Mark; THANK YOU for all you do for us photographers/videographers and nature lovers; can't wait to see what you do next!! Will be back in Florida later this year armed with all your advice and my Sony A1! Cheers!!

Congrats! I had my 50th in Sydney Australia visiting my sister. It’s cool to travel somewhere and enjoy a new environment and get away on such occasions.
Thanks and happy belated birthday
Happy birthday!
Thanks
Happy 50th Birthday. Congratulations on getting the Sony A7IV. Enjoy Your Trip To The Florida Keys.
Thanks
🎂🎂 Happy Birthday Mark! Have a great time just chilling out. Looking forward to your upcoming videos with that new Sony camera! BTW, at 50 you are still a youngster in my book!
Thanks
Looking forward to your comments on the A7iv (just got mine yesterday) and 200-600 (which I already have). Happy birthday when it arrives - 50 is the new 40 or 30, especially if you’ve just had your 65th, like me.
Lol thanks
Very nice lighting!
WOW HAPPY BDAY Mark and so happy for you and your fiance for your impending wedding enjoy ,all my best
Thanks
Thrilled to hear you're doing a video on the a7 IV with the 200-600! Mine arrived just before Christmas and I've shot hundreds of birds, with mixed results. It's been fantastic for perched birds, but I've really struggled getting sharp shots of birds in flight (even gliding hawks & vultures). So, I'm anxious to see what an expert like you finds and shares with a struggling hobbyist like me. One setting I've considered changing is the Steady Shot on the lens; I need to try setting #3 to see if that helps. Can't wait to see your video. Happy 50th! I bet it's a great time of year to visit the Keys.
Happy Birthday, you don't look like af 50 year old guy. Guess it's all the birds that keeps you looking so young! Come to Norway if you wanna se snow owl and a lot om eagles in a lot of snow. ;) Looking forward to the video in the A7IV :) Keep up the nice work.
Thanks
Really enjoy the updates or anything else you want to post. Happy birthday!
Thanks
Man I am super pumped for what’s ahead!! Happy Bday
Thanks
I know there are quite a few saw-whets here in Alberta during the summer. I heard one near by the other night. The Beaverhill Bird observatory is a good resource. They do a lot of bird research from April to November including banding saw whets. You can even join them in the autumn. It’s really cool. You can see their Instagram. Of course that is a cuss of a long trip from Florida. Beaverhill lake is an amazing migratory bird resource too. Part of the RAMSAR convention. Happy bday.
Thanks
Happy 50th Birthday, Mark. I gotcha' beat by 20 years. It goes so fast. Also, congrats on your engagement. Looking forward to your reviews with the a7IV.
Thank you!
Congrats on many levels!
Thanks
Happy Birthday Mark! I am 68 years old; that what you call old. Congrats on your engagement! Hope you and your finance have a great time in the Keys. Looking forward to you video on the A7IV.
Thanks
Happy B-Day , Bird Man
Thanks
Hi Mark, Harrison Mills in BC, Canada...Home to the largest over-wintering population of bald eagles. Hundreds, even thousands of eagles gather along the river’s edge to feast on the spawned out salmon carcasses in November and December. Congrats on all the good things coming your way, you deserve it!
Thanks
Mark, Have you ever gone to the Dry Tortuga’s National Park? Just a two hour fun boat ride from Key West. Very cool place with lots of interesting history. And, the sand shoals just 100 yards off shore are bird sanctuaries for hordes of migratory ocean birds. Craig
I have and loved it. Made a video on it too.
Happy Birthday young man!
Thanks
Happy Birthday. Happy to hear your thoughts on the A7IV and the 200-600. Looking forward. I have an R6 but got the Sony combo just for shooting birds. Enjoy you health and your hobby. Do what you enjoy so you can enjoy what you do.
Thanks
Happy Birthday Mark, hope you have a lovely day! I have booked into an Osprey Hide here in the UK for may you are a big reason why my love of ospreys has increased!
Thanks and good luck on your hide trip!
Hey Mark super excited to hear more about what you think about the Sony A7iv and the Sony 200-600. I recently picked up the combo a few weeks ago and im still learning the ins and outs. I have managed to get some nice shots of birds but want to learn more ways to master this combo. So I look forward too watching more of your amazing videos
I remember 50! Happy birthday.
Thanks
Happy Birthday 🎉 Mark I’ve got the low budget Nikon z7ii + ftz+150-600 G tamron…and always learning something new from you-:)
Thanks
Happy birthday, have fun in the keys. Looking forward to the skimmers since I have been making a yearly day trip to Forsythe Wildlife Refuge Brigantine (NJ) to see them. If anybody is near there it is a fantastic place to photograph them as there as canals that run parallel to the driving path.
Thanks
I live in northern NJ. Been to Forsythe twice last summer great for osprey. Heading back soon!
Great camera. Had it from day one...better then entry....
Happy Birthday buddy…🎉🎂🎉
Thanks
Happy early birthday Mark! A great place you can find all sorts of owls including northern saw whet owls would be the Sax Zim Bog in Northern Minnesota. Tomas Koeck did an owl documentary there if you haven't seen it called "Sentinels of The Boreal." As far as eagles Alaska would be a safe bet or the Mississippi in southeastern MN along the border. Your a bit late though as snow season is coming to a close quickly.
Thanks! I was thinking next season for the eagles!
For both Sea and Golden Eagles you could look to Norway. We have the densest population og Sea Eagles in and around a place called Bodø. We have abt 1500 Eagles breeding and nesting in a relatively small area. So succesful has our handling of the nearly instict Eagle (hunting were allowed untill the 70's) that we help other countries re establish their sea agle population. In regard to the Golden Eagle (more scarse) we still have some good locations where they can be found and photographed. During a stay in Norway there should also be alot more birds too capture, both predatory and others in the bird cliffs facing the north sea. Why not book a trip for whaling and northen lights while you are at it :). I can hook you up with places to go and people to connect to without charge, just proud to have you over (all nature in Norway are free to roam due to govermental laws so no to little restrictions). All the best
Thanks that sounds great!
Sounds like a good starter camera all ears on the autofocus system ! Congrats on half a century life is short reminds me to get out more with the camera !
Thanks
You're looking spry and full of energy for 50! I'm looking forward to your comments on the a7iv. Other than a few sacrifices to get 10 FPS it seems like a great camera, and is at the top of my list.
Thanks
A little late now, but the Lower Klamath NWR on the California/Oregon border has a huge concentration of wintering eagles (as well as a ton of other raptors), in late January early Feb.
saw whet owls are very difficult to get shot of, they are in trees that grow shape of Umbrella -mushroomed shape with tiny branches. and Pine trees, we have them in Middle of Maryland. There is talk of Maine having huge Lakes up there with plenty Bald Eagles .also New York has Big River. I will share again in C.W.P. FB Site . And Happy 50th Birthday Mark!
Thanks
Looking forward to your settings on this. Have just shot some owls. Falcons and hawks. With the 200-600.
I saw a bunch of bald eagles when I was in Kodiak but of course that was a long time ago before I met your dad...
Is this the real jo beach?
@@MarkSmithphotography Ha ha...Who else would I be?
Alan Murphy just got some amazing pictures of eagles during a workshop in Homer, Alaska. It snowed at least one of the days he was there. Some of the pictures are posted on his Facebook page. His group was able to get very close for some of their shots.
Happy Birthday Mark ! I was considering the A7 IV however went ahead with the A9 inspired by your videos. Super excited as the package is expected this week. Eagles in snow, did you try convincing your pet Osprey’s in Florida?
lol thanks and enjoy
Wishing you a fantastic birthday in advance... If you don't mind traveling to India, I am sure you will get some really good Eagle shots in Uttarakhand...
Thanks
For Eagles in snow you should consider Haines Alaska. There is a festival every November usually . It was cancelled the last two years due to Covid but the eagles didn’t know that 😉. I live just a 4 hour drive away in Canada and cannot wait to get back there this year.
Thanks for the info
Coeur 'd'Alene Idaho in December, if you check with the local Audubon, they mightbe able to help you find a Saw-whet.
Mark. I’m interested to hear more about the eye AF Performance of the A74 and if it’s a good backup to an A1 as compared to an older A9.
Happy birthday, Mark! I live in Anchorage, Alaska, and there are a TON of eagles in Alaska for sure. I've seen many locally, but am not an expert on where the best spots are to find them.)
Thanks
Best wishes from Portugal!!
Thanks
Happy Birthday Mark. You are not old! I am turning 72 in several days. That is not old either! :)
Thanks and happy birthday
Happy Birthday, Mark! Will love to watch your reviews on the A7 IV and 200-600mm. Currently, a Canon shooter and seriously thinking about this combo for birding.
Thanks
i was hoping you would do a review on the a7iv , would like to know which would be best for bif this or A9 , i went to haines in Alaska and at. the estuary to the chilcoot river there were around 50 Bald eagles this was September so no snow then,
Looking forward to all that content! Happy Birthday! My wife will be 50 March 9th.
Thanks and happy bday to your wife! Mine is the 6th.
Hey Mark.............looking forward to your thoughts on the A7IV. I'm sure I don't need to tell you this but just in case, I'd really like to hear your thoughts on the viewfinder blackout you're going to get with that camera and how it effects your photography of action and/or flight. That is one major obstacle that has kept me from getting the A7IV and leaning towards a used A9II as a backup for my A1.
I’ve used many cameras with blackout and while it is somewhat of a hindrance it has never stopped me from getting good shots.
Just got the A7IV as well and am looking forward to what you do with it.
Hey ... Happy Birthday (you youngster still!) Enjoy the Keys! Maybe you can do some underwater photos of fish and coral reefs! Enjoy Mark! 🙌🎈🎉
Thanks
Happy Birthday
Thanks
Happy Birthday Mark! Turns out we're the same age!
Thanks
I'm very excited to see the A7IV stuff. I'm debating if I cange from my Nikon D500 to one, so would love to know your thoughts on that comparison. Happy upcoming birthday!
Thanks
Hi Smith, a big fan from India. According to you which camera helps you more A1 or A7IV. Waiting for the reply.
Happy birthday Mark! Only 50 sounds young when 62 like me. I will be interested in how you find the A7iv. I have one as a second body to my A1 and surprisingly I find it stands comparison in eye AF, although I am just a hobby photographer
Thanks
I relate getting older to a flower slowly wilting. Getting older is really the only choice when considering the other option. I guess it's time for you to turn in your camera gear for a metal detector and sand scoop. It's tough aging and becoming the creepy old guy on the beach with a camera. No really I'm taking pictures of birds. We drove up to Juneau AK a few years back and saw a lot of eagles sitting on light poles. Eagles are becoming more common in states like PA. I thought the eagles would have been migrating south to the Maryland dam but they seem to be sticking the winter out up here. The river has remained unfrozen in spots. I have seen some eagles scavenging roadkill. One dead deer had three at it one day near a back country dirt road. They seem to visit their nest sites occasionally. Last spring I photographed 4 eagles sitting on branches around a nest site in a snow storm. There were 5 but one flew away. Our snow this year has been weather modified crap rain snow.
Congrats on the big 5 0!
Thanks
I live in Washington and I know that you photograph eagles in skagit in the summer, however, in another location there is winter photography where bald eagles fish for salmon, if you are in Washington around December and if it snows then you can get shots that way, but otherwise Alaska is great and the Aleutian Islands have a ton as I’ve heard
Thanks
Happy birthday !! Best wishes from India. Eager to hear your views on A 7 IV. Currently holding on to A 7c with 200-600 & TC 's
Thanks
Hi Mark....how about a7iv review? When is it coming? Cheers!!
Is Happy Birthday mark
Thanks
Mark, here are my questions for you: - Have you done an in-depth video on the Z9? Did I miss it? - How does the Sony 200-600 G combine with the A1? Saw some reservations on YT on that combo. Can you look into this? Thanks! :-)
I’ve done two videos with the z9 so far. My 200 600 works great on the a1.
@@MarkSmithphotography PS: Happy B-Day! That makes me a good 3 years your senior. :-)
@@GeertDelmulle thanks
i have the a1 and the 100-400 and the 200-600 and aside from the 100-400 being slightly sharper, the autofocus on both is excellent.
@@MarkSmithphotography I’ve seen both (a short one and a longer one). In the longer one you hint towards a follow-up video on the Z9. And I was hinting towards that one. Then again: no pressure. We’ll see’m when you post them. :-)
Welcome to the fifties! I look forward to seeing you in June in Washington! Hey, question...Do you feel that your KZhead channel has helped with your website sales? I am considering a channel of my own.
Saw whets nest at our house every year here in Alaska the male was calling last night.
That’s awesome
What does BTS mean? I googled it and it appears to be a Korean boy band. I'm struggling with putting that together with your video. 😀
Behind the scenes
Fifty years old. Congratulations. Your still a spring chicken. 😀
