  • Jesus Christ dude. You’re being WAY too hard on yourself. I’m sure we all appreciate the effort you’re putting into your videos, but please don’t underestimate the main reason we’re here. You. Your personality, humor, perspective, and enthusiasm is what keeps us here. There will always be creators with more “impressive” videos, but that doesn’t undervalue your content. We appreciate everything that you do and whether that’s watching your old LPs or your new video essays (which have done amazing), we’re here for Clement.

  • I understand the urge to compare yourself to others, but remember that the way you see your content isn’t always how we see it. For as long as I can remember you’ve not only been my favorite content creator, but also the gold standard of content creation. When you did lets plays you covered every aspect of a game, and you’ve brought that over into your new content. I’ve rewatched a lot of your new content a handful of times each. The audio quality has never been noticeably bad or worse than others. As far as deadlines and patreon, I understand your frustration and anxiety. Just be forward and honest about content and try your best. If things come late, they come late. Don’t delete the patreon, just don’t make promises you can’t keep. That doesn’t mean you should push yourself, it means you need to figure out what you can manage and then communicate that to your audience. For now, I’m aware of the fact that one day you may not create content anymore, and it bums me out. Your videos have been a staple in my life since I was in middle school, and now I’m almost 25. Whatever keeps you on this platform, and keeps you fulfilled as a person is a path forward I’d root for. Appreciate your openness and this video, and hope you don’t beat yourself up too much. Happy new years! 2024 WILL be better.

  • Dude I completely understand you, I've been living with anxiety and depression for over 15 years now and I can say that it is not fun at all, and every "failing" just keeps piling up and one thing makes you bummed, that makes you not wanting to make the next thing, that makes you not want to do the next and so on and so forth. In short I haven't had a job, gone out of the house, hung out with friends, done anything useful, and gained so much weight in the last 6-8 years that I just had enough. I had isolated myself for so long that I couldn't even go outside of the house without wanting to just die, but this year I started on a path of recovery, I started with going back to learning thing that I liked, not only it was good for getting me used to going out and talking to people with similar interests, but it was just good because I was improving a skill, then I started going out again, little by little, going to dinner with my family, visiting friends that I hadn't seen in years, eventually I actually went to a live concert and it was great, just being out again. Lastly I had been planning on lose weight, because as much as we don't really care about our appearances, this stuff is always in the back of your mind, so I did the bariatric surgery, I had already started working out but bc of the eating habits of the last 6 or so years, dieting was impossible, it didn't matter how little or how much I ate, I was always hungry, so it was impossible for me to lose weight, so I did it, and in 6 months of eating less, eating more healthy and exercising at least 3 times a week, I lost 47kg (that's 104 pounds) and I'm feeling better than ever. I just feel so revitalized in a way that I haven't felt in so long, and even though I still have anxiety about so many things, at least I know I'm not on the downwards trajectory anymore, you know? The point to all this is, I know anxiety is not just one thing and it sometimes feels pointless to even trying, but if you block that part of your brain that wants to sabotage yourself, and start doing something (no matter how minor it is) you will get better, and I believe in you man, I don't know you personally but I know you have it in you to get yourself out of the dump. And Happy new year.

  • Clement I just want you to know that your tekken video sparked me to go through the entire series. I loved every part of the journey, and still watch the tekken, street fighter, and bad endings video multiple times throughout the week when I'm at work or trying to sleep. Your videos are something I cannot get anywhere else. Other creators upload more but usually aren't as rewatchable as your big projects. I believe in you, that you can put your head down and master what you want to, until you are happy. We're all rooting for you to be happy with what you are creating and doing!!

  • Hey Clement, just wanted to jump in and point out that it sounds like you are burnt out NOT LAZY. You are literally describing all the symptoms I had when I went to school and just couldn't do what I was supposed to do anymore. It started with me getting anxious over stuff I was late on and all the assignment I had to do to catch up. This put me in a place where I was literally always in a working mindset, I never let myself rest except for sometimes where I in just pure fatigue let myself play a video game or two because it was the only thing I felt I could do progress on. This is not something you can power on through with at all so don't even try that, you are just going to make a bigger hole for yourself to get stuck in! You need to re-frame your working life so it will let you feel good and let the creativeness come to you. In my case I actually got a job in the thing I was studying (Game development) so I was able to start without finishing my education. For a while I wasn't able to let go fully and had in my mind that I would at some point go back and finish it but it again took me back to the headspace of "I'm always thinking about work so I'm always working" a friend and my girlfriend had to convince me that just leaving the school and focusing on the now wasn't because of laziness, it was something I had to do to feel good again and be my best self. In your case I don't think leaving youtube is an option and this being tied to money makes it more complex but you already listed several things in your video that is going to help you. More contact with your KZhead friends, they can help you with all the tech issues you're having and make it so much faster to get through it than digging through tutorials. (Good friends are happy to help you and asking for help is not a sign of being worse than others, it's a speed hack to get better at stuff!) Setting work hours is also very good but not for the reason to force yourself to work but rather the opposite. It will force yourself to let go of it after you "clock out", you need the rest and you deserve it! Try to get rid of the backlog, just burn it if you can or at least trim the fat. Having these big effort videos being in your shadow always reminding you of the pressure of getting them out isn't good. Focus on what the best thing you can do is with minimum effort is. If you are traveling a lot next year do a travel vlog or something, it doesn't have to be perfect, you just need to get comfortable creating stuff again. (I also wouldn't mind you showing up on Brainscratch more if that's at all possible :) ) Also the most important point, LET YOURSELF GET BORED MAN! To me it's the biggest component of getting creative work done. The brain will not let you be creative if it already filled with real world stress and stuff, but if you take a walk out in the snow with some headphones on your brain is going to enter hyperdrive. The brain wants stimuli and if it doesn't get distracted by youtube, anxiety, planning ahead and work it's going to come back to you, so give yourself space to reach this point. Don't force it, you'll make things worse. Hope you start feeling better, Regards "Someone you helped inspire to work in videogame development"

I don't have an answer for this, obviously it's a more complicated issue than anyone on here can know, but know that this fan of yours for almost a decade is still very happy with your releases and I don't think you're failing at all

  • Dude, you're working harder than some people out there who think they deserve way more. Work at a pace that you can sustain, not at a pace you think you're supposed to work at. The quality is there. I know it because I've seen it from you. If you want to strive to do more, go for it. I wish I had a tenth of that drive. Just don't break yourself trying to do more than you're ready to. This is a marathon, not a sprint.

  • You are without a doubt, the most relatable content creator on the youtube that i have ever encountered. Personally i have dealt with my personal demons like my inferiority complex, lust and finally my self loathing about those two previous things and my flaws/weaknesses in general. Like college grades being abysmal or how i am sometimes incapable of understanding others, my supposed mental issues etc etc

  • Honestly Jamie, I know the pain. First of all, let me just say, been watching you since Sonic Triple Trouble 13 years ago. I know, time flies... Anyway, I've been doing KZhead content since 2006. I've never wanted it to be a career option, I see that as the ultimate enthusiasm killer. At that point, it becomes a job, and then I'm forced to crank shit out, and there's no passion there. I used to get somewhat decent views for someone on my level (10-15k subs), I take a year off due to burnout. I come back this year with some new ideas, and man, my viewership just died. There have been times in the past 10 months where I'd put out a video I'm proud of and it just gets very few views, and it just kills the mood and it just reinforces so many bitter opinions I already had about this website. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed making content for (mostly) 17 years, even if it's mostly amateur stuff, but it sucks that you have to essentially build a brand, upload super frequently, and become as professional as possible to even get a decent view count. At this point for me, KZhead is a great place to just kill time and watch some fun stuff from my favourite creators, but wow, creating stuff on this site has become a seriously shitty hobby for me, so much effort for almost nothing, and I'm just fed up with it now. Like the fans say, the content will be worth it when it comes out, quality over quantity and all that, but believe me, I know how you feel.

But at the same time, yeah, you're being a bit hard on yourself. People can't be productivity machines 100% of the time, we need time to step back and evaluate, you know? Mental health is important. • "Addiction"/compulsion to social media, games, video watching, the core issue is not those subjects, but something deeper that is personal. People can blame mmos and other games as occupying too much time but it plays ignorant to the actual issues in people's lives that the game or games are helping them cope with. It's good you are realizing the issue is further than what is keeping you occupied. Also 2023 was a rough year for everyone. Can't wait for it to be over.

I have had a relatively good year, and people have been telling me that, but most of the time I just think I suck, and I also feel like a failure. Sure, I get a chance to hear how much progress I've made through the lenses of other people, but like you said, where it truly matters is how I feel about it, and I feel like I could have done better. All I can say is don't beat yourself up so much. It doesn't do you any good. You have to learn to roll with everything life gives you, and just keep going. I've been following you for a while. • Clement don’t worry about a video being “Too personal” I actually like that & I know I’m not alone. I essentially grew up w u & while I’m not crazy & think we’re real besties or anything (tho we had tweeted back & forth on twitter b4 idk if u remember me) I do bc of the fact that I grew up w ur videos feel a personal connection to ur personality & commentary. Ik this year has been tough but u also completely rebranded ur channel & have gotten immense recognition for it & while that may be stressful keep in mind that’s also where the problems are bound to come in bc change causes adjustment & adjustment is hard so while what ur going through is no doubt hard & I KNOW & UNDERSTAND that pain it’s also important to acknowledge that that is a perfectly normal thing to happen after such a big change & ur not doing anything wrong to add to it. Dont think of it as I only had x many videos out in 2023 bc of issues think of it as “I GOT x number videos out in 2023 despite these major issues!” & take pride that while they weren’t in your opinion perfect or even good that u managed to truck through it instead of just giving up. Besides the fact that your so personally sad about this lack of content rlly shows where ur heart & soul are at w this bc it’s not like u haven’t been getting paid via patreon all this time so it rlly is passion for ur fans & ur videos on a creative lvl. Here’s to 2024 Ik you’ll make a comeback & be better than ever even if the road is somewhat rocky!

  • Been watching this channel for almost 12 years!! I'm turning 22 next month and, clement, you're probably the biggest reason I wasn't ashamed of liking something that other people called "weird" like sonic. You're a HUUUUUGE part of my life and i wish you nothing but the bests of bests for you ❤❤❤

  • Appreciate you Clement! Just wanted to say your sonic 06 video got me through some really hard times in college. I’d rewatch it all the time because it never failed to make me laugh. I was insanely proud of your newer videos getting over 1M viewers lately!! So thank you for being you for all these years :)

  • Clement I have always enjoyed your work and never thought you've put out anything less than great. Like you've said in your own video here we understand; take your time, it'll be ready when it's ready, and we'll be here for it. Having dabbled with content creation myself, and wanting to get back into it for years now, I know the pain of trying to get those audio levels just so - and maybe having never managed to get back into the swing of things I'm not the right person to be saying this, or maybe I'm the the right one - but you can't keep doing it to yourself. You need to get in your head that there is no perfect audio production, that there is no definitive "right version" of your video, you need to set yourself a definitive cut off point of being "good enough". I know that doesn't sound glamourous, and I know you don't want to just drop something out with a "eh, that's good enough, I guess", I know that you really care about the quality you're putting but you need to sit there at the end of the day, watch it, listen through, and as long as it's good quality and there's no issues that would stand out to someone that isn't you (if you can get someone else to be a "beta watcher" of sorts for your videos that would really help with this), then release it. You releasing something that you would consider a 9/10 is so much better than releasing nothing at all because you're trying to make that perfect 10 - because that's just not going to happen, because you're not willing to give yourself that perfect score on it. We care about you, we believe in you, and I hope you're being kind to yourself. Look forward to everything you put out in the future x

I rewatch your megaman lets plays constantly, and love your final fantasy series retrospectives. It was also great to find out you were a fellow Calgarian! Keep going, and heres to a new year!

  • i've been watching for so long, probably since around the time you started your sonic the hedgehog series of lp's. i remember one day wanting to watch somebody play mega man 8, you were one of the first videos that came up, and definitely the first video where i didn't hate the commentator lol. watched the whole thing, then watched pretty much every other mega man lp, started watching your new sonic lp's, and even watched your siskel/ebert/roepert videos. i may not have been the most loyal subscriber, in that i haven't watched EVERY single let's play or video you've done, but i'm also not one who wanted you to only be the sonic guy, or the mega man guy. you honestly have a great knack for commentating and putting work in your videos. i've always liked your stuff. i understand your anxiety, and i hope it doesn't mess with you too much in the future. no matter how you feel about this past year in terms of your online presence, and no matter how much anxiety you feel in the months coming up, please know that you have created a niche community of fans who truly love what you do. you should definitely be proud of that! i just hope you don't worry too much about having to put videos out on a set time schedule for us lol go at your own pace, and do you. happy new year, clement

  • I can definitely understand the mindset you are at. That was me about almost 2 years ago. I was in a shitty relationship that broke me emotionally, and I had almost no drive to do anything. Thankfully, I had a great support system (my family) and I was able to get myself out of that situation. I still struggle every now and again but there are gonna be good and bad days. One thing that you mentioned in this video that i had a strong visceral reaction to was when you said that you were gonna gove yourself an ultimatum. I immediately thought, "DO NOT DO THAT!!!" At least from my personal experience, I did try and do that to myself and it did not end well for me AT ALL. I suffered a lot of self abuse and didn't treat myself very kindly, but now I'm willing to change that. It's not easy, but I'm taking it day by day. I know KZhead rewards creators with quantity over quality but I personally feel like if you asked for friends to help lighten the load with making some of the more in depth videos like the FF16 video and/or the insane lore video, I feel like the anxiety would decrease immensely. Just a suggestion though. Please don't be too hard on yourself, Jaime. I know this year has been really tough for you but appreciate how much time and effort you put into each video. Even if it doesn't come out on time, we still appreciate it regardless. Especially us patreons. We can see through your updates how hard you're working. But please don't push yourself too hard. And remember... YOU ARE ENOUGH. EXISTING IS EXHAUSTING BUT YOU ARE ENOUGH. YOU GOT THIS. ❤❤❤

I do too, some people look like they have it together but everybody has their demons and you never know what it took for a person to get to where they are or become the person they are. they probably went through just as much struggle and toil that you are and everyone is on their own timeline. just keep going man. you’re already a success. that should make you confident. big ups and appreciate you making awesome videos.

I go through quite similar struggles when it comes to making videos, only I have only just started making videos and I get into the same funks of laziness and I'm all yeah ill do it tomorrow and never gets done and by then the hot topic has come and gone. And repeat. If I'm doing this now I'm never going to make it making videos, but seeing this video gave me a kick up the ass to try harder and put in the work as well , so thanks! Best of luck in the future dude, I've subscribed and I eagerly await the insane lore of one of my favourite games, Mortal Kombat!

  • As an ADHDr I can relate to a lot of this negative self talk. Something I've been trying to remind myself of is that "perfection is the enemy of progress". Even if you only get a little bit done each day, even 5 minutes, you're still going in the right direction. And if you can't, that's ok. It might be your body telling you to deserve a break :) Enjoy your other life and activities to the full (and mindfully as is possible), and I hope it will spark your creative juices! I hope you will print out some of your subs amazing comments and look at these in moments of doubt, but understand that even if you choose to never put out another video again, you are still a worthwhile, hugely talented and valuable person. I hope things get better every day. Lots of love from a sub who's watched your tekken video 6 times, whenever I've really needed to laugh and relax ❤xx

  • I've enjoyed that video, I feel you on the bad recording audio too, Its something I've been struggling for years, its mostly one of the reasons why I don't make as much videos , it seems for whatever I'm trying to do right with, more issues come understand and more tutorials aren't helping me as I have proper recording gear. Though next year will be better, just found out my local library has a media room from there I can do voice recordings there, I just want to sound clear as you are in this video and its a struggle.

  • I know how difficult and painful it can feel to compare yourself to others. The best way to be, I think, is to compare yourself to how you were doing a day, a week, a month before. Easier said than done, of course. Creating structure has really helped me in working on some of these kinds of issues and I hope you find it useful too.
