In this episode of Capitalism Hits Home, Dr. Fraad discusses the decline of the American empire, both globally and domestically. After WWII, the US was the only industrialized nation that stood strong, helping it ascend to global dominance. Today, however, the world order is shifting. The BRICS economic alliance (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) is extremely powerful and widespread, with over 19 more countries hoping to join the alliance. The US dollar is losing its primacy and our country is steeped in debt. Internally, poverty is ever-increasing, corruption is normalized in our politics, and our wealthiest individuals and corporations don’t pay taxes. How did we get here? What can be done? Dr. Fraad tackles these questions and more.
Capitalism Hits Home with Dr. Harriet Fraad (CHH) is a @democracyatwrk production. The show addresses the intersection of capitalism, class, and personal lives, and explores what is happening in the economic realm and its impact on our individual and social psychology. • BRICS wants to build a new currency. It is also worth noting that gold has historically been used as a store of value and a means of exchange, and some countries still hold significant amounts of gold in their reserves. However, it is unclear how a new currency backed by gold would function in the current global financial system and whether it would gain widespread acceptance. Ultimately, any decision to create a new currency would be subject to numerous economic, political, and logistical considerations.

    • It's interesting to learn more about the discussions and proposals around BRICS nations and their potential use of gold. There are several reasons why people may choose to buy gold, including its historical use as a store of value and means of exchange, its potential as a hedge against inflation or currency devaluation, and its relative scarcity compared to other commodities. Additionally, gold can offer diversification benefits to investment portfolios, as it tends to have a low correlation with other asset classes like stocks and bonds. However, it's important to note that investing in gold carries risks and may not be suitable for everyone. and investors should carefully consider their investment objectives, risk tolerance, and financial situation before making any decisions.

  • True. But there is something very deeply wrong with many, many average Americans today, too. Example... I was driving home last night, when I tried to pass a large red pickup on a stretch of road with dashed lines (which means it's perfectly allowed), and the pickup stepped on it, so that I couldn't pass and so that I could have very well crashed into oncoming traffic (and at night, when visibility is lower). It was attempted murder. The guy driving the pickup had zero concern for killing another human, and was even trying to kill someone (me, though obviously not personal). Again, there's something very, very, very wrong with a great number of average Americans. When I was younger, I thought people were basically good. But the sum of my life experiences has shown that they're basically selfish (if not mentally deranged, as lots are--as the pickup driver was), and therefore basically bad.

  • BRIC'S isn't helping matters. According to some analysis, the United States and other regions of Europe may have a recession in 2023. Because china and emerging countries frequently grow faster than more developed economies, a global recession, which is defined as a decline in annual global per Capita GDP, is more uncommon. Fundamentally, if economic growth lag's behind population growth, the global economy is said to be in recession.

This empire has an excess of the worlds dainties and riches, and it has had them at the expense of everyone else’s hard work, sweat ,blood, and tears. Well, everyone else is tired and angry. They no longer are content with this brazen robbery. The playground children are uniting against the bully. Their common enemy. You see your “peace” for so long has been, to the world, suffering. Your “peace” came at the sacrifice of ours. But what the empire fails to realize is, its prosperity, came at the expense of its future peace…

We need all the scholars to lead us to fight our government from lying to us. We need all the scholars to lead us to put dishonest politicians out. Then again…our government is compromised already from the Justice System to Judiciary System to the lowest system level…I guess…we Americans will always be Americans which is living in a dream of “living the American Dream” so comfortably that we pretend that the rest of the world is still in our grasp… Bad New China is as strong as the US if not stronger. There have been gangsters and criminals in America since it's inception and there wasn't this much gun violence. The vast majority of these shootings are actually the fake 2A crowd who typically operate out of the human rights violating concept of racism. Those same folks are ok with felons who shouldn't be armed having guns as long as they're white. I live around these people so I know this. • Thank you for your very important message. I wish more and more people wake up to the facts that America is and has always been an imperialistic country who has sacrificed its citizens health and life in too many ways, while pursuing power, profit and self interests. People need to rise up and NOT accept it! We need the activism we saw in the 60s and 70s and until we get real, strong push back from a large contingent of our population NO change will happen until its just too late.

  • 7:15 I seriously doubt the United States will allow Nicaragua to join BRICS. Panama and Nicaragua are both critical for US interests, because, without a canal through Central America, the Pacific Fleet is all but Cut off from the Atlantic Fleet. As Recently as 1989, the United States invaded a Sovereign Country (Panama) specifically to ensure that a reliable and accessible canal through Central America remained available. If Nicaragua tries to join BRICS, I guarantee you the United States is going to decide to go bring some "Democracy" to the Nicaraguan people.

    • Amen to all that. The US can't do shit, they'll sanction and blockade, but to invade they'd need to cut down in the funding towards Ukraine and south Korea. They literally can't afford it, or win any wars at all. Their only plan is going nuclear, but it won't. Not long enough, at least. Brazil and Argentina have rejoined Unisouth(Unisul) and are negotiating an unified currency, in the first week of Lula's government, it allowed the docking of 2 Iranian warships against the US's orders. Nicaragua has been historically a great ally to Lula in his first and second term mandates, as has Venezuela. Lula will likely pay Nicaragua and offer economical protection to have it in BRICS+ and Unisul. World War 3 would(is about to) ensure the end of capitalism and the dawn of international communism, which is inevitable. There are simple strategies that are irreversible and unstoppable; that would completely destroy the bourgeoisie. I'm honestly more afraid of Disney than the Grander US's Empire and NATO. Remember that north Korea is basically a defense Tower for China and has been at war with the US since they invaded the south and declared it sovereign. Seriously, the us can't do shit They could either threat nuclear or instate a fascist coup and hold every person as compliant hostages by their data. They don't want to invade Nicaragua, believe me And even if they destroyed civilization, either with nuclear bombs or fascism; communism would still take over as soon as possible. They are actually panicking at the sound of every step Lula takes. As they should.

    • But it will be a big failure may be dead end of usa.. may be usa will not exist if usa pick any nose, bcz china RUSSIA india already are genuinely three superpowers in one side.. i see how much chinese indian friendship exists ..they fake their war to fool west.. it's very sad reality.. usa's politicians should change there policy from eurocentric views and be a country of east, not west..only solution..most of Americans hate Europeans.. we need to hate greedy Europeans..usa is a good country with good people..usa never supported colonialism but usa's fault was to support Europeans- biggest blunder.. Upto when usa was Europe's enemy and china russia latin Americans africans friend, till then usa was successful..when it shifted to Europeans it's downfall began ex - Vietnam Afghanistan loss, syrian loss... We need to be an eastern nation , not western.. Australians are much influenced and protected bcz it's not eurocentric ,it's india china asia oriented.. Politicians just like dumb sleepy joe should listen..otherwise communist revolution is needed in usa..

  • One of the main risks associated with a gold-backed currency is that it can limit a country's flexibility in monetary policy. Because the currency is backed by a fixed amount of gold, it can be difficult for a country to adjust the money supply to meet changing economic conditions. This can lead to economic instability if the supply of money becomes too tight or too loose. Another potential risk is that a gold-backed currency can contribute to hoarding and speculation in gold. If individuals and investors perceive that the value of gold is likely to increase, they may hoard it or speculate on its price, leading to volatility in the gold market and potentially contributing to economic instability. Finally, a gold-backed currency can make a country vulnerable to external shocks and fluctuations in the global gold market. If the price of gold declines significantly, a country with a gold-backed currency may be forced to devalue its currency or risk economic instability. Overall, while a gold-backed currency is not inherently capable of collapsing nations, there are some potential risks and drawbacks associated with it that could contribute to economic instability and even the collapse of nations under certain circumstances

  • I woke up last year when my retirement money disappeared. My bad should of been protecting my wealth. You'd be surprised how much our politicians don't know, not to mention the Fed. Maverick of wallstreet is fun to watch. Protect your wealth before the money grippers come. Today is not capitalism its crony capitalism. Real one died in 1990's when we shipped jobs overseas.

Let’s come up with solution these messages are ok , we should spend more time coming with solution , put those critical thinking skills to work instead of being divided.

In 2022, the Edelman Trust Barometer reported that 83% of Chinese people trust their government and institutions. The figure for the US is 43%, and is falling rapidly.
