Find a way to add a barrel extension to that monster so all the powder burns and then find someone to machine a few modern slugs..... up to you what you shoot at..... but i would love to see a modernized version of the old lady
Your getting closer Scott.. I love the Punt Gun but its still no .950 JDJ.... c'mon Scott get the dang JDJ.. been askin for over a year !!!!!
Hey Scott, just an idea, put one or two garage door springs under the sled, that way you don't have to keep pulling on that rope. Just a thought. God Bless.
next step up, hotchkiss revolving cannon?
Imagine an intro where Scott trying to fit all his rifles in a small trunk on his way to a gun show
Ya with the punt gun strapped to the roof! 😂😂😂
that would be hilarious
Depends on your definition of small.
Why?
What if all the characters he's made up are in one intro
It is absolutely insane to see on the slow-mo footage. The pause between the hammer coming down, barrel actually sending flame and rounds down range. Then the vehicle downrange is damaged well before the recoil sled even starts to go backward. Slomo is so cool, thanks Scott.
And then there's the sound the hammer makes when it drops in slo-mo. It makes me think I'm watching a Wile E. Coyote clip.
Now imagine this punt gun alongside the 4-bore in a Slow Mo Guys collab.

Now that we know it fits a 50bmg inside, there’s only 1 thing to do… *“SHOOTING A FULL 50 BMG RIFE OUT IF A PUNT GUN”*
That's absolutely ridiculous! Although.... 🤔
I would call that "poetic justice"
How about shooting a 50 bag loaded with slap rounds out of a 50 bmg
Maybe chunks of a certain one. Or shot at a .50 with it.
I'm sure there is an intrepid 50 cal rifle manuacturer out there who could convert their existing design into a projectile...
I was really impressed with the safety glass in the wing shield. It took the full force of the punt gun and still performed its job. It stayed laminated in one piece.
You must be the first person in history to shoot a punt gun that many times without bagging a single duck!
Valuable work there Scott. I would never have known that you shouldn't ever try to start a car that has had a one pound lead ball fired with 25,000 ft lb of energy from a punt gun through it's block. Stirling job, mate.
Scott has a true commitment to advance the sciences. It is evident in everything he does.

That lead ball created some CRAZY carnage through the block. That was WILD!! Great video, Scott.
I'm so glad this man is still with us. Energy is unmatched, put a thumb in it brother!
Forreal this guys the best
..well i wouldent say its unmatched...not even close btw...perhaps in us (im from sweden) the kinetik energy seems to be just 41kJ or so and an effective range of about 75 yards(69m) ...but i agree it looks huge and intimidating... but its rather clumsy and useless... ..Avraging the kinetik energy as F=mv^2 gives (from the mussle) V = sqrt( F / m ) -> V = sqrt( 41k / 0.454) -> V=300.5 m/s mussle velocity (329 yard/s) ..wich means it hits at 75 yards in less than .23 seconds ...it could possibly stop a unarmoured car at close range however thers faar more powerfull 'shotguns' if we can even call them that any longer...more like cannons...that delivers around 1.22MJ of force, but those r 400 years old now.. modern weaponds are far more powerfull..

Imagine what it was like at sea with a full broadside of cannons going off, gigantic cannon balls and huge splinters of the ship flying everywhere. Seeing this tear through that engine really puts that into perspective.
The speed and power of cannonballs made splinter grenades when they hit wood. Most fellas that died at sea, were wounded by wood
This guy is so awesome. Thank you Scott aka Kentucky Ballistics for making my days better.
Scott, the energy the punt gun produces is incredible. That engine? Oh my goodness.

I'm suprised Scott hasn't just bought a full sized cannon at this point
I think we should just wait a few months. 😁😋Here's hoping...
It wouldn't been the most expensive thing he's bought, not by a mile
This thing seems to be pretty close to a cannon😳
@@1stCallipostle An actual cannon isn't that expensive anyway, small ones are 3-800 dollars, a full sized field artillery gun is something like 10-15k. Edit: Just found one for sale for 12.6k
@@ComotoseOnAnime That's... exactly what I was saying. It would be very doable since between things like 50s, Machine guns, and Big Game Rifles, the cost would be nothing new
Don't know what's more impressive. The damage the punt gun did to the car, or that the car was even able to attempt to turnover.
That fuckin birdshot was super impressive.
You do a great job integrating sponsors into your videos. It’s always comical and they never miss!
Not sure if it would be obtainable, but would be interesting to see what the Punt Gun can do against an armoured vehicle with bulletproof glass and armor panelling on the doors.
That would be very interesting
Same thing as a small canon or 20mm etc :)
What did Matt do with the one he shot with a tank?
Well .45 lead pellets will probably get swallowed... But I do wonder how such a close instantaneous group would affect bullet proof glass...
I'm guessing it would stop any buckshot type rounds, but the lead ball might get through. Would be a good video. Also if he had some sort of actual armor penetrating round for that thing it would probably be toast!
My neighbor said that in '03 he dual wielded two punt guns while fighting in Iraq. I'm starting to think he never actually served.

Not going to lie, seeing you blast that Ford Flex was a little personal for me. A drunk in a flex ran a redlight and completely changed my life 8 years ago. Even though its not me wrecking that car up, I still feel immense happiness seeing it get wrecked. Side note. Seeing Scott just toss that sheet of 1/4 really gives us an idea just how strong he is. I wasn’t expecting the bird shot to look that brutal! The interior POVs look terrifying lol
Still want to see the birdshot hit on the distance that flock of ducks would be at from the punt boat back in the day. The spread must be enormous at a larger distance for the concept to make sense. Like Scott should shoot the broad side of someone’s barn with it.

I think a lot of viewers might not have handled .50bmg in real life before. It would be cool to see more common calibers put into the punt gun. Like see how many .22 rimfire, 9mm, or 5.56mm rounds can fit in the barrel.

And then shoot them - live 9mm rounds instead of buckshot, etc ..😂

Anyone else love the sound the hammer makes in slow motion for the punt gun?
I love the vids Scott hope to see more with the punt gun!
First time I saw a Punt Gun was in Tremors 4. It looks like a regular rifle, but just scaled up for Giants. I just find it so interesting they went that rout for its design, rather than design it like its to be mounted onto something.
Sad that a channel like this in any way, shape or form, can not exist in Canada. Keep on showing us these fantastic boom sticks good sir!! 😁😁😁

Note to self: if Scott ever says “hey, can I borrow your car for a second?” - the answer should always be NO.
That engine damage is insane. I'm surprised the starter could even crank it after that, even if there was a small fire.
Looks like it broke maybe two out of four camshafts (and valves and such to go with) and relevant parts of the heads, other than the valve covers, intake manifold, and whatever other external stuff was in its path. So maybe if the timing belt or chain(s) was(were) still hanging on along with front halves of camshafts and one or more journals, or maybe even without, you could still spin the crank with the starter.
Since it's a front wheel drive, the engine is mounted transverse which means it actually sits sideways in the car. The flywheel and starter were off to one side, so they were out of the line of fire.
@danielgoodman3578 Yeah, it tore up the heads and intake but missed the block. If the pistons aren't damaged and locked up, a damaged camshaft isn't going to stop that starter.
It's went straight into the head, through the manifolds and camshafts. If he aimed just a little lower and hit the both the head and the block it would literally split the motor in half. There was a lot more potential for damage. Either that or go through the side, the projectile would go through the entire block.
Would love to see this repeated on a running highrevving engine , aimed straight at the block. Like if you start a Volvo B230 mounted on a stand, and shoot it so that the projectile can go through all 4 cylinders. With slow motion footage and all.
i would love to see the the slo mo guys join you in shooting the punt gun at stuff lol
Always feels like I'm watching someone who's excited about their first video that they get to make with a budget from a sponsor. Keep it up, bud
It’s crazy how the shot is hitting the car before the recoil even starts the punt gun moving back. As always Scott great episode.
Scott has a style all his own that I absolutely love! My son and I even had a "Kentucky Ballistics Range Day" where we "properly disposed" of some watermelon and eggplant because we like his videos so much! (It was his idea; he is also a big fan). And yes, we did infact kick our eggplants. Honestly, it's one of the best days I've spent with my boy that I'll cherish for years!
Just ran across your channel and had a great time watching this video. Years ago Field and Stream wrote an article about punt guns and the one they talked about a 2 gauge punt gun. Several years later a friend and I were discussing black powder rifles and the different gauges when I brought up the 2 gauge punt gun. He quickly disputed my claim laughing at me . Little did he know I kept the Article in reference and quickly shut him up. I just can't imagine the English using these firearms for commercial harvesting but they do exist. Thanks for the video you just gained a new subscriber!!!

This Punt Gun is Sick! I would have liked to see the loading also but awesome video!
It would be cool to build a recreation of a section of what an old ship wall would've been and see what the Punt Gun does to it. Since it's basically a cannon.
As a ford technician this was a fun watch! Thanks for the content as always Scott!
A local museum has a punt gun, not sure the bore size but the gun is 12 feet long overall from the butt end to the end of the barrel. My grandfather, who was all of 5 feet 3 inches tall and never weighed more than 130 pounds in his life used to have a double barreled 8 gauge shotgun and during the Great Depression he would take a Johnboat and lay that double 8 gauge across the back end, float towards a flock of ducks and let loose. He would take most, sell them to the market and keep a couple for himself and his family.
This is GOLD!!!
Absolutely a great video, as always!
Can you try getting balls made out of different materials? Like a solid copper ball, solid steel, iron, tungsten and so on? It would be really interesting to see the results of the destruction the different materials will make.
With a gun that size, sitting on a platform that allows it to move backwards from recoil, you have literally just built a canon.
One of your best videos ever!
I like the extra touch that bob even has sleeves. In case the big handlebar wasn’t different enough lol.
Hey Scott! You definitely need a wallgun next! They were the anti-materiel rifles of the muzzleloading age! And you need to have a Eargesplitten Loudenboomer rifle. It's a .375 cartridge (or a similar large big game cart, I can't remember exactly) necked down with a .22/.223 projectile to make it hypersonic. That or a .22-250, that thing is the fastest commercially available cartridge.
220 swift is the fastest.
How would that even work? A 22 caliber bullet being fired through an elephant rifle barrel would have no pressure.
In my 40 years of living, there isn't one guy that would be better for the Doom guy other than Scott.
