  • I lost my wife in 2010 to cancer and I still play this song. I'll never get over losing her. I lost the one true love in my life and I'm very grateful for having such a beautiful woman, inside and out, in my life.

    • I'm so very sorry to hear that. I almost lost my wife two years ago. It's been a long road but without saying anything else I'm sure you know exactly what I'm talking about. She's still with me and I just can't imagine the pain of losing her. God bless you my brother and I will remember you in my prayers.

  • I first heard this song in 1971 on a monoaureal transistor radio. I was sitting on the sidewalk in front of the house of the girl I liked, she had just come from the United States to settle in my neighborhood. We were both teenagers. She spoke English, I didn't. The device received a signal from a station in the United States - I'm from Monterrey. This song captivated me. I didn't understand the lyrics very well but I loved the sensitivity with which Skeeter Davis sings and since then it has been one of my favorites. Now I speak English. I understand the lyrics, it's quite a romantic song. Whenever I listen to it I go back to that moment.

  • Why does the sun go on shining? Why does the sea rush to shore? Don't they know it's the end of the world? 'Cause you don't love me any more Why do the birds go on singing? Why do the stars glow above? Don't they know it's the end of the world? It ended when I lost your love I wake-up in the morning, and I wonder Why everything's the same as it was I can't understand, no, I can't understand How life goes on the way it does Why does my heart go on beating? Why do these eyes of mine cry? Don't they know it's the end of the world? It ended when you said, "Good-bye" Mmm, mmm, mmm, mmm (Why do these eyes of mine cry?) Mmm, mmm, mmm Don't they know it's the end of the world? It ended when you said, "Good-bye"

    • I've often wondered why the author chose "glow above" rather than shine above in verse six, "Why do the stars glow above?" My guess is "shine" when sung into a microphone sounds harsher than does glow. Anyone else have a theory?

      @AVB2@AVB2 Жыл бұрын
    • @@AVB2 I believe that it was to not be redundant, since “shining” was used in reference to the sun in the very first line of the song.

  • Very touching. Losing someone dear and loved, at any age, any time, any place, is heart wrenchingly painful and I thought extremely cruel! I often thought I'd rather to have "lost myself" than to lose a loved one, so that I don't feel the pain of loss!.
