Released as the title track of their 2002 album, it quickly became a fan favorite and a staple in their live performances. But what makes this song stand out to drummers? Chad Smith blends elements of funk, rock, and punk seamlessly, creating a dynamic groove that underpins the entire song.

    • Just watched a video on a WW2 admiral Willis “Ching” Lee and dude was sent to be the woodchipper for them in DC and originally paperwork would be rubber stamped “routine, urgent,or priority” in that order. Well, he decided it wasn’t working for him so had his own rubber stamp made with the word “FRANTIC”…😂😂 they didn’t know what to do but get everything marked “FRANTIC” done immediately. Reminded me of Chad. Also, dude won a National rifle competition after getting a bullseye from 1000 yards. So he decided to compete in the pistol competition, despite not being there for it. Anyway gun blows up in his hand from a round with too much powder. Without skipping a beat has a friend toss him another pistol and catches with his left non dominant hand and finishes and gets another gold medal. Basically Chad Smith reincarnated.❤

  • I love how this song seems like the tempo speeds up and slows down throughout … but it doesn’t, actually. The BPM is very steady. Chad’s drumming stylistic and rhythm choices give that variable-tempo illusion. It’s really cool, especially the work on the toms and the ride.

A bad drummer would be out of sync with the time, a regular human would sound like you gave a monkey some sticks and it went apeshit. • The true greats are always taking something they played and then doing improv in their performances. Sure, they are keeping certain patterns the same or there are riff, fills, hooks that they want to maintain but as they move through the song they throw in what they want and it's seamless. • Something about it makes me start to tear up. A master at work, someone who has put so much time into something that they exert almost effortless power. A dying art. People don't really care about live music too much anymore; it's nowhere near as powerful and meaningful as it used to be, due to other media distractions today and perhaps a lack of truly gifted artists. But when you see it in action up close, those drum hits that you've only experienced on an MP3 take on a new life of their own.
