That was awesome! I'm actually an F-16 pilot myself (believe it or not lol) and I couldn't help but to notice how on point (though not perfect, with some stylization and a few Hollywood kind of things) so much of the tactics, maneuvering, and comms were, with regard to real life ACM and dogfighting!
Thank you!
Loved: Shot at max range to force them to break. Vertical scissor to cut inside TIE's turn (F4 vs Mig17). Horizontal scissors of Xwing trying to force overshoot. Working in teams with wingmen. Some of the tactics are even more valid for those who played Xwing sim (like that Y-wing rolling to stay alive).
I'm only a Cessna 172 pilot (currently) but I also noticed some of these maneuvers.
I am an f35 pilot myself I agree it’s a pretty good dogfight
Not a pilot myself but, during the cockpit close-ups, from where/what is all of the turbulence coming from? 🤔
Y-Wings not getting under represented? Check. Good dogfight? Check. Good acting and sets? Check. Good costumes? Check. Good effects? Check. Good use of music? Check. Amazing job. Eagerly waiting for more.
One thing I love about this is the fact that the second TIE that the X-Wings took out was a victim of "Target Fixation". He was so locked on to taking out the X-Wing in front of him that he forgot about the other one. Classic. Loved the whole thing!
You’re the first person to comment on target fixation! Yes, that’s exactly what’s going on in that moment with the TIE pilot. Thanks for watching and please share!
So basically red baron?
The props and fighter interiors were amazing as well as the helmets weathering! Kudos to the prop and set builders!!!
Why, thank you! And thanks for watching!
Wow, the creators really did their homework. Since most people probably won't notice, the maneuvers were all actual Energy fighting manaeuvers, tactics from WW2. First she goes into a vertical turn, which is what you do when the enemy turns faster than you and you cant reach him. Then we saw the scissors maneuver, designed to make an enemy behind you overtake you while being harder to hit. The Y-Wing scene also nicely portraied the usual tail gunner problem. I was extremely impressed. Also, visual quality of props, cockpit scenes were A++, but even the spaceship scenes were very good, a quality level that doesn't feel "amateurish".
Thanks for noticing! Yes a lot of homework went into this & the goal was to portray a dogfight not as one would see in space, but as one would see in real life. We are impressed at how perceptive our audience has been, as we’ve gotten many comments about the maneuvers (though not as detailed as yours!). Thanks for watching & please share!
We know.
If you are caught by an enemy from behind, you dont keep fly in formation. You split up increasing your chanse to counterattack targets and split the enemy up at the same time. That way you can cover each other... (Deathstar Trench run exception)... They didnt here...
@Ursus_VF Ursus_VF You can download it with the X-wing alliance upgrade mod. It works on Windows 10.
Here's the source of the aerial combat maneuver you're referring to (skip to 8 minutes in) kzhead.info/sun/jLeymMV7hoF5jKs/bejne.html ... Turing into the attack, in formation, is the correct counter maneuver.
I gotta say, I enjoyed that more than SW: Rise of Skywalker. No kidding.

Me as well, no doubt. Can't say I found my self smiling from ear to ear, pumping my fist and getting goosebumps during that movie. This on the other hand... 👏
Man ... we came to a time where fan made movies are FAR BETTER than Disney movies. Disney movies lost the essence of what Star Wars is all about
The Disney movies and the Mandalorian are very well done and were and are a massive hit with critics and fans, of course you can't recapture the greatness of the original trilogy, though Disney is trying hard to recapture that magic. Rise of Skywalker was the fastest selling digital and retail release here in the UK and elsewhere and despite it's problems it is a good enjoyable film. It will be exciting to see where Disney takes Star Wars in the future
Your comment proceeds. The cgi on this fan film may be worse than the one we see on the current official Star Wars movies, but it seems to have been made so on purpose and mixed with outdated visual effects, in order to catch the "feel" of the old movies. And it hit the point with precision!
Rogue One / Solo. Nuff said.
@@shawntipton7398 I mean Rise of Skywalker wasn't that enjoyable at all, Palpatine got defeated that easly having fooled his enemies so many times before.
@Albin Fuller New Star Wars movies are for kids
STUDIOS TAKE NOTE: These are no longer fans making films. These are dedicated filmmakers making amazing content. These are the people making amazing film on small budgets that give the studios a run for their money. Thanks for a great film to all involved.
Careful,.... last time someone said that on the Star Trek side, they ended up in a lawsuit, and all fanfilms ended up under crippling "guidelines" that were more like restrictions. Honestly, more fanfilm makers should be instead focusing their efforts on original works, rather than fan works. That way Hollywood couldn't touch it
it is because this fan film creators love Star Wars

@@k1productions87 Please don't bring up Axanar It still hurts to think about THAT fiasco
@@chrisdufresne9359 I didn't mention Axanar by name. But still, its a warning to watch out for Hollywood. They can be quite vindictive. They'll keep you in the dark and make you think things are just fine until you take that one wrong step so they can pounce all over you, and then dig up everything they previously said was just fine, but now say its not. "We'll let you know if there are any problems" while never doing so. No, screw actually COMMUNICATING, its better to bring out lawyers and make it all a sideshow. You have to admit, CBS/P did a masterful job splitting the fanfilm community right in half. Divide and Conquer.
Since the spacefighting in Star Wars was based directly on WWII fighter combat, it was really neat to see you guys use real world tactics like the Lag Displacement Roll and Scissors. Bravo!
Thank you for noticing (and watching)!
@@RogueSharkPictures You lived up to the visual standards of the original trilogy (like when the X-wings do a wing-over on their dive to the first Death Star) and made a truly awesome Star Wars dogfight. @@turyb.goodiii7356 That video is to me a perfect example of what was completely wrong with the prequels. Overblown, overly long lightsaber duels that completely missed the point of what lightsaber fights were about.
Incredible work!
this was better the real thing
These 9 minutes were a better Star Wars film than all the hours of prequels and sequels combined. Thank you!
Now THAT'S what I call STAR WARS!
good to see an old school dogfight, with just one or two fighters, instead of 500 cramming the screen.
The worst part about being with the Empire is all the time you have to spend twiddling the dial-knob on your fighter's controller in the middle of combat.
The TIE Fighter was designed to be cheap. The pilots tended to pay the price.
I'll bet those Empire pilots moonlight as DJs. 😁
No kidding! And not in the middle - right at the very last second, where they add one or two more seconds. Annoying.
Imagine if all the fans crowdfunded themselves a proper film... It would end Disney's nightmare run with the franchise over night.

yes
I like how accurate they portray the TIEs as fast but fragile starfighters.
X-Wings didn't exactly look sturdy in this, the one hit going down immediately. The shield generator did no good. Maybe it wasn't even working. The maintenance crew might have been slacking and falsifying reports. It's not like the Rebellion could acquire the best professionals anyway; it's a dangerous life with few rewards. Feeling like you're doing to the right thing might not be enough after long years of desperate fights, constant fleeing, and watching your friends die. It's not like the Rebellion could have run proper academies to train qualified technicians anyway. They would just accept whoever appeared willing. At least they had droids. But no droid factories.
@Herra Käärme The hit on the X wing seemed to be around the fuel/engine, and I don’t remember them ever visibly converting any power to the shields before the TIE’s showed up
That would assume they were flying through an asteroid field with their shields down. The only real reason to divert shields to power is for pure speed, which wouldn't fit the flight profile either. The more logical explanation would be that the forward shields were being reinforced at the cost of the rear shields for the sake of any stray asteroid (just like during the initial phases of the DS trench run) and they didn't balance them out after being engaged. But the more likely answer is that its just for dramatic effect. The effectiveness of the shields is based on how convenient they are for the story being portrayed. Fans can be just as guilty of this as anything official.
@@BrySkye Yes, it's for dramatic effect, as the story must always come first. Video games make shields very powerful for a better gaming experience. However, our goal was to emulate the original movie, in which shields were very ineffective. Case in point: kzhead.info/sun/jK6Yj8xpiqmtoHk/bejne.html
Kyd: *looks at holoimage* R2 Unit: *bleeps* Savos: Kyd, I swear on Alderaan, if you’re pining over that picture instead of watching my tail, the next cockpit you’ll see is the inside of a tub! Kyd: Yes ma’am. I mean, no ma’am. I mean... Savos: Just shut up, Kyd. Kyd: Shutting up. Oh, I love it.

Disney, don't even think about copyright claiming this masterpiece.
It’s like an actual comic book come to life. This was amazing. Thank you
That was a perfectly executed droid scream. 5:30.
Why are the fan films more Star Wars then Star Wars proper?
Cuz Disney sucks
Because it's about content, and not virtue signalling
Current makers of Star Wars are not FANS. They just get paid to do it or see the chance at making a SW film and slipping in their favorite political agenda...
I don't know why you liked this so much. I thought the entire team did a great job in production and post production, sure. But they failed to present the most important part of any movie: a compelling story with compelling characters. This is basically a scene with no context (the text crawl contextualizes what's happening in-universe, yes). There's no reason this story SHOULD be told. It's a great demonstration of presentation. It looks and sounds and tastes like classic original trilogy Star Wars. Certainly more-so than the prequel trilogy. But it doesn't FEEL like Star Wars, because it has no subtext. It has no heart or soul, really no clear protagonist or point of view. I hope the creators understand that I'm not suggesting THEY have no heart and soul. They've just seen the trees, and done a great job at recreating the trees. But they haven't shown us the forest. Just trees. That said, a thought provoking moment happens toward the end of the film, when our Y-Wing pilot suggests that "Commander Skywalker has a way of finding things..." That statement alone suggests some interesting story ideas. I don't need any Luke fanfilms, that's for sure, but it makes one wonder, what is the point of view of rebel vets AND/OR rookies when it comes to this farm boy that came outta nowhere, buddies around with this Princess who has taken up an entirely military rank within the Rebel Alliance forces, and seems to be lucky as hell. And claims it's because he uses The Force, an ancient hokey religion that nobody really takes seriously anymore (despite what the Prequels might have told you). Like, that's gotta be a real trip. What is the journey of an atheist to a believer, or to somebody who has no supernatural abilities at all? Those are some questions that make for an interesting exploration of story. There are no bigger questions or character arcs that justify the challenges these characters go through. It's just very well composed and edited security camera footage of a real life event, no meaning, no purpose, no subtext.
We understand what you are saying, but we think it's a bit unfair to demand that a 9 minute short tackle big ideas that only a feature length film, or even a trilogy of feature length films, can handle. For us, this was a small glimpse into a much larger universe (the first scene of a much larger story) and if we had the resources to expand upon these characters, and the direction we want to take them, we would do so. We have all kinds of ideas for Star Wars features and TV shows, but until Lucas Film decides to pluck us out of oblivion (we're not holding our breath), this will have to do. Sorry we couldn't do more, but at least it's better than nothing.
10/10 This is the second fan film of star wars that i watch and im really surprised how the cgi looked realistic and the whole film looks like the old ep4 but with elements of ep 7. Good job on making this!!

I need a game like this NOW!!!
Youda00008 If you want a game like this, check out good old games at gog.com They have the original X-wing and TIE fighter games, as well as the much newer X-wing Alliance if you want some better graphics. All of those game are Star Wars 'sims' so prepare to learn a lot of controls for things like power management, angling your deflector shields, setting your cannons to individual, dual fire, or quad fire, etc. But you get to fly missions for the Rebel Alliance or the Empire, if you download TIE fighter. And you get to pull cool maneuvers like the one Renegade One pulled at 4:50 I actually grinned hugely at that since that very maneuver (pull up, cut your throttle, and roll onto the enemies tail, and show him what four Taim & Bak KX9's can do!) has saved my virtual life several times.

There really should've been more pieces of work as well made as this one. The emulation of the New Hope's style, especially with the combat in general and the cockpit shots (like the TIE Fighter pilot one), These real life flight maneuvers, interesting characters and narration and more. Plus it just clicks with me, because it's a good showcase of the Rebels' fighter superiority, which I feel was pretty much their thing. That's why I hope I'll eventually see a fanmade movie where the Rebel fighter squads helping take down a Star Destroyer is going to be included.
Watch the fan made film Star Wars Star Destroyer. The battle takes place near Cloud City. That one shows them engaging the Star Destroyer. The Lost Patrol is still my favorite Star Wars fan film, although you have alot of excellent ones out there.
That was awesome. Couple of cockpits, a few helmets and costumes, and some (top quality) CG work mixed together with some of John Williams' classic score to make a movie that would fit right in with the theatrical films or the animated shows.
Good kudos on the cg it was very impressive
Excellent use of a high yoyo and the thatch weave. Well done.
This short film...like the Han Solo fan film, has MORE Star Wars heart in it than all the Disney studio remakes made by soulless executives.
I enjoyed this presentation it had real tension and actually has decent characters that I would like to know more about, and there's a bond between them that you can get a feel for. I loved the fighting as well it really helped that you weren't sure which way the battle was going to go since the beginning crawl said the empire was on the rebels tail and being a pre empire strikes back segment it could've gone either way. Nicely done

@Victor Nikolai true, which is why the Y-Wing in our movie was never able to shake the TIE Fighters off her tail. Superior piloting and a rear-facing gunner helped, but ultimately she needed rescue from the X-Wings. Right on point with the BFM techniques! All which would apply IRL regardless of being in space or in atmospere/gravity. Based on what is "known" about the relative performance between X-wing and TIE fighter, I would NOT want to enter a sustained flat scissor with a TIE in an X-wing by choice unless I could see going in that I would have the ability to out-decellerate him within the first few crossings. You only need a few degrees angle-off and turn radius advantage to set him up for a reversal overshoot. However, clearly the TIE driver was gaining the advantage bit by bit with each crossover and was within maybe 2 or 3 turns of gaining the X-wing's 3/9 line. (Yes, I have done a fair amount of ACMI debriefing).
We the fans are the "new hope" against the empire...."may the force be with us all.." nicely done folks...nicely done 👍🏼💯🦇
