Nationals Senator Matt Canavan says it is “totally absurd” that power prices for Australians are going to continue to get worse in the future.
Mr Canavan joined Sky News host Paul Murray to discuss the latest with power prices and the government’s continued push towards renewables.
“It’s a cash merry-go-round now energy system,” he said.
“The only problem is, of course, unlike the merry-go-round at the local fair, this ride’s not free; you’ve got to pay for it.
“You’re paying for it in your power bills every quarter.”
If you voted Labor, enjoy the fruits of your insanity!
this also included teals and independents, as labor used there vote to get into power.
Of course, it's going to get worse. Renewables are hideously expensive and inefficient.
and all the extra transmission lines, 40% of the power bill is transmission costs. then add on the battery farms, etc . its crazy.
"Chweaper Ewectwichitty" 🤣
💯😂😂😂😂😂
Yep $250 expensively cheaper for me! Thanks Albo. "expensively cheaper" sounds like a Labor campaign slogan. I wonder if I can sell it to them .. they do love oxymorons.
My power has gone from $350 a quarter to 630 a Quarter since Albo took over 2 years ago.
Least you saved us from unprecedented warm weather. I promise by the year 2030 when the sky is very blue and the birds are chirping as hard as they can then the end is nigh.
Pretty much the same story here too! Do they think I'm running an iron smelter in my home office or something? We have abundant natural gas, yet we sell the majority of it overseas for peanuts so the government can piss the profits up against the wall after yet another piss-up in the taxpayer funded parliament bar.
@@tagiscom And im sitting in my house every night with a candle for l light because solar panels only work if its sunny and windmills only work if its windy
I remember when state and federal politicians told us that energy privatisation would drive prices down thanks to increased competition. 30 years on I'm still waiting
The problem is it isn't completely private. The non-profitable green energy companies are getting subsidies from the govt.
Bull@@DJ-yj1vg
Big end of town were the main beneficiaries.
@DJ-yj1vg The biggest problem is No foreigners should control or have ownership of Australian energy. It's a national security issue
Some of us did try to warn others ... but we were laughed at. Neo liberal economics (unbridled capitalism) sounded great to most people after our governments had deliberately run once profitable services into the ground. They began ripping us off immediately after government sold these services off to the private industry. The illusion of choice didn't cut the mustard compared to the reality of rising costs. The worst part of it is (especially in QLD) we have to pay unaffordable energy costs for this "green rubbish" while our governments profit from selling our abundant natural gas to other nations for peanuts. "Sheeper Elecwisity" from Anthony Albanese transformed into an extra $250 bucks on my recent power bill. If it keeps rising it will be unaffordable to everyone but the uber wealthy. A nation without affordable energy is a dead nation.
Electricity poverty is coming.
That's why ev s are getting pushed down our throats
I did hear from someone in the know that the grid in Queensland is in poor condition and not far off failing
That's why palachook did a runner why Miles will lose October
That's why Miles giggles a lot .. he's loving it. But we must pursue treaty with our "protected people" at all cost and blindly forge ahead with unaffordable and inefficient renewables and this insane gender rubbish ..all because orders from on high (UN/WEF) tell our treasonous quisling political class to do so. No matter if there's a youth violent crime problem that's totally out of control and directly due to the ALP's go-softly ideological madness and the gutless ideological judiciary they install. No matter if tent cities are becoming normalised. No matter if people are unable to afford basic electricity and living costs or even a roof above their heads.. "I'm alright Jack" is the politicians mating call.
And this Ride ain't got no brakes carn't be stopped.
As long as BOwen can click his heels together three times then all is well.
Power prices are going to continue to rise to pay for the construction of renewables.
Buy the industry back Matt, I dare you.
How about winning Bathurst with 4 wheels and no steering wheel
but.. I thought I was to get a $275 power cost reduction
It just keeps getting worse and worse businesses closing transport, farming and manufacturing costs all going up and thousands and thousands of acres of land being cleared for inefficient intermittent power and power lines.... They are sending the country broke.Just remember when they keep howling about how good it is that people are investing in renewable energy...well rule number one when investing......never invest in anything where the price is going to go down...that should be enough to tell you what we are in for.
I was surprised by my last power bill. For years its been cheaper than my gas bill. Not any more it seems.
The more ruinables they push on the grid, the worse the prices will get as the cost of backing up intermittent generation to keep the lights on keeps getting proportionally larger!
Everyone can expect cost of living to track with that as food production costs go up. The other thing we will experience, like California with its reliance on "renewables", will be reduced supply and requests not charge your EV and not to use your air conditioner.
EVs are not suitable for every country. It is more suitable for country like China where electricity is much cheaper than Australia. In China off peak electricity per kwh is only 4 cents Euro and peak electricity per kwh is 7 cents Euro. A typical charge will only cost EV owner 2.50 Euro and give 400 kms range. Also EV maker in China will install one charge point free for customer when they buy a new car. The money saved every 3 years by EV comparing to fuel car is price of a brand new EV. That is why young customers in China like to buy EVs instead of fuel car.
Electricity in China is much cheaper because they are using our coal.🤬
Advice is , stock up on candles and kero lamps 😊
People need to use less power to cut down on their carbon emissions and by rising the power prices will assist in making this so.
Lol 😂
If you think renewables are the answer then consider.. The NSW State Government has announced their intention to spend millions of dollars in taxpayer money to extend the life of the Eraring Coal Plant for up to another 4 years The decision involves providing Taxpayer subsidies to Origin Energy’s Eraring power station for up to 2 years with permits to run for two more as needed The subsidy would be aimed at capping the price of coal and also extend to other aspects of the plant’s operations including an expansion of its coal-ash dams. It comes as a report from Electricity Supply and Reliability Check Up NSW cannot retain a reliable power system without Eraring remaining open The most recent AEMO report that there are reliability risks with Eraring exiting early. Eraring is located in Lake Macquarie, 40km south of Newcastle, and was officially opened in 1984. It contains an overall generating capacity of 2,922 MW, making it Australia’s largest power station. So much for the Renewables Hype
Industry opinion is that NSW would manage without extending Eraring. But unsurprisingly Minns won't take the risk ahead of the next election.
I know someone that has a 3 wheeler bike and has been around Bathurst track ..lol
Greens voters you're voting for the ALP with Greens preferences.
You won't be hearing this on Sky, but 1Q wholesale electricity prices in SA (now 75% renewables) fell 24% to $55/MWh compared to prices in the coal-heavy states of $87 in NSW and $118 in QLD.
Average price for Wholesale in SA for 2022-2023 was $123.25 per MWh. Who cares about one quarter if the other 3 make it the exception?
@@AximandTheCursed Prior to 2020, SA wholesale prices were consistently higher than those in QLD and NSW. With a rising renewables share, since 2020 they have been consistently lower. Across the NEM, AEMOs figures show that wholesale prices are lowest whenever renewables are setting the price.
@@gibbonsdp WRONG! As ruinables increase so do prices everywhere. QLD was the only state whose prices went down from 2021-2022 to 2022-2023, everywhere else went up with SA seeing the second highest increase after Tasmania. I trust those who actually audit AEMO's comforting lies.
what about SA having to run diesel generators and having to import Coal power from vic and NSW.
@@AximandTheCursedEverything I've said can be verified on the AEMO website. If you wish to dismiss inconvenient facts as lies - sorry, LIES! - that's your loss.
🤠👎
***Queensland Nationals senator Matt Canavan has declared net zero by 2050 'all over bar the shouting' only hours after Scott Morrison** 😂😂Another FAILED prediction 🤪
Matt Crapavan looking for new coal markets, no truth here. Man cave huh, I bet theres a poster of the Sav Moment on the wall of Murray's man cave.
Paul's got his Right wing One Nation crystal Ball out again.. predicting the future. You'd think have would have given up by now. GIVEN HIS TRACK RECORD 😂
You must be the only person in the country whose power bills haven't been sky-rocketing.
What Left wing countries are doing ok?.
You love Ev car's you will be using solar wind power only including your home you will charge everything threw solar learn to live in the dark at night time you don't need a fridge or washing machine you have to wash your clothes in the bath tub rinse in there hang out no clothes drier you'll follow in what U believe lead by example stop acting like a smart arse to everyone in the comments section i do hope you start praying turn to God have relationship with God repent daily, lastly you people who are inlove with renewable energy use it yourselves while everyone else uses gas coal and nuclear power
Grow up Dom your losing a battle you can't win
