Ray came to Washington from his native Bronx in the early Sixties as an Army infantry/intelligence officer and then served as a CIA analyst for 27 years, from the administration of John F. Kennedy to that of George H. W. Bush. Ray’s duties included chairing National Intelligence Estimates and preparing the President’s Daily Brief, which he briefed one-on-one to President Ronald Reagan’s five most senior national security advisers from 1981 to 1985.

  • Actually gutless Blinken didn’t dare to say anything to Wang or Xi. He listened like a mouse but afterwards in his press conference he blew up his ego & pontificated like a hawk! Pathetic indeed!

    • It's very Sad. However, if you are not North American there is a magic phrase that will get you warm hugs, and insistence of free accommodation, introductions to the locals, they will pay to take you to their best restaurants, and insist on treating you to their best liquors and most beautiful secret, unspoiled locations. That phrase being: "we had to come through the US to get to here. Damn! I can't stand Americans, they are so slow witted and ignorant!". I discovered this by accident while taking my World Cup mountain bike team on a world cup series tour.

He meant that violent revolution ( insurrection ? ) might not be necessary because of American democracy. I think it's funny how the phrase has migrated to the right ( and nobody seems to know it ).

Ray is a wonderful and very insightful speaker and he is needed back in a position of power to show those there how to behave. He is a treasure AND with a great sense of humour. Ukraine is bled dry with no hope of ever recovering, from 50 million people and 600 000 km2 in 1991, Ukraine may end up with half of its territory, no access to the sea and 25M people dwindling fast below 20M with a big gap in young men killed at war and no hope. If the US and the Western governments had given a damn about the Ukrainian people, the war could have been avoided entirely or negotiated to a resolution that would have been relatively positive for the country and saved hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian lives, not to speak of the physical and that could have been avoided.

In history at school we learned what happened when the British made the mistake of taking on the Zulus in South Africa. The Brits set up for battle on a flat piece of land below a towering mountain. The Zulus attacked from the top of the mountain. Spears against guns. (You don't need to reload a spear!) 4 brits lived to tell the tale. Later the Brits and the Zulu king negotiated to keep the land they wanted. The Zulus are still there. The brits kept the adjoining land to the South where they could farm and develop. The Brits used military and sea power as little as possible. After WW2 the US took over the role of world hegemon. They have much to learn. Jawjawjaw is better than warwarwar.

    • @@kaliyuga4802 Long ago, there was "Peter's principle" which basically states that we get promoted up to our level of incompetence. But, I have been wondering about psychopathy and social structures. I came across this article while looking into psychopathy "The Top ten Jobs that Attract Psychopaths" CEO is number one. Since I realized we evidently live in a Corporatocracy Empire... a French historian for me on the trail of Pathocracy, scientifically known as “Political ponerology”.

It doesn't end well in Fallout and it won't end well for us either.

  • I'm amazed how McGovern can tell a complex story, with the necessary gymnastic contextual detours, and then jump straight back to the conclusion and stick the landing better than Olga Korbut. Outstanding.

  • Ray McGovern is a brilliant analysts , with years of experience in military intelligence and international affairs. This gives him keen insights into global events that few others have, and wisdom that only a handful of his colleagues also possess. Ray has an extraordinary ability to see through the propaganda and lies that the West peddles to the rest of the world, in conducting their foreign policy initiatives . The exceptionalism espoused by the U.S. and many of its European Allies, is indeed a troublesome and infantile disorder, without question. Thankfully, there are other players on the world stage who can actually act responsibly and with a common sense approach to international relations. The Russians and China are key among the nations who take the long view, and promote policies that are actually constructive, as opposed to the chaotic and destabilizing initiatives promoted by the West! It is dumbfounding that the West can continue on the path that so far has sown seeds of discord and destruction, everywhere these policies are implemented, without exception. Utterly amazing that the U.S. and the West can be so arrogant, ignorant, heavy handed and inept in how they interact with the rest of the world. The hatred and disdain for the West grows more pronounced with each passing day, and understandably so. Many countries are fed up being dictated to by such global bullies, and in the process being exploited for the gain of their Western occupiers, at their own expense. The West never learns from history, or the catastrophic blunders they commit on a regular basis in foreign lands. The unipolar world is in it’s final stages, however the West refuses to acknowledge this new reality. We can all benefit from listening to Ray McGovern, and his assessments of current events. He is always on point, and puts the complexities unfolding all around is, into proper context and proper perspective. The horrors ongoing in Gaza and the West Bank, as well as Ukraine, are all a result of the hubris and stupidity of the West, and the screw ups masquerading as our leaders. Thank you Nina for inviting Ray McGovern back as a guest on your wonderful podcast! His responses to your thought provoking questions, give us all a clearer picture as to what is going on in the world. You are doing an extraordinary job in keeping us all better informed. Please keep up the good work!

A few years ago I asked him if he thought China would invade Taiwan. He said no way, especially because Taiwan's chip makers employed 70 people in PRC. His country is the only one allowed to keep their historic offices on the Bund.
