Evo 8 FULL RESTORATION and 800HP Build Is Just Too Clean To Drive
It's not every day you find a RARE 2003 Lancer Evolution with less than 50,000 miles on it. Even less likely in the color Lightning Yellow, and even more unlikely than that, one that hasn't been thrashed and needs a new transfer case. But that's precisely what happened when our producer Jarred decided it was Evo'clock and was ready to give in to the HDWerks process.
In Part 1 of this episode, Pete takes us through the entire process of restoring, building, and making this 2003 Lightning Yellow Lancer Evolution 8road ready. That includes sourcing the car from the get-go to inspection, teardown, paint restoration, parts lists, fabrication, welding, mounting, cryo blasting, testing, replacing, and rewiring every inch of this cult classic. By the time Pete was done, one thing was for sure. This car is just too damn clean to drive... BUT WE GONNA DO IT ANYWAY.
You'll also see Pete teaming up with the renowned Chris Carbee to tune this 800hp capable beast at @SFL_Dyno. You can check out his Instagram here: / slowpoke_r8
Included in this build as usual is a treasure trove of parts from companies like Artec (Manifold), Haltech (Elite 1500), as well as Platinum Racing Products (Billet Rocker Cover), who we have a discount code for here: bit.ly/HDWERKSXPRP)

Now this is the kind of content I love to see showing the hood the bad and the ugly!!!Despite what happened at the end this was such an enjoyable video to watch from the beginning to the end!!!I can’t wait till version 2.0 comes out better and stronger 💛!Keep up these 🔥 ass builds!!!
Thank you so much. That’s exactly What we wanted to show. No one talks about the bs and struggle of car building. It’s just the flash and glam and look at me. The real builders have no apprehension to show the whole story. Not just the fluff. Thanks for your support. Share share share.
Hi wat is dune to 5he car
I see Carbee .. Working magic 💪🏾
Yep
@@hdwerks Great build! Keep at it. 💪🏾
So y’all know I’m a big domestic GM builder. This content is so good- and Pete and his team are so talented that I would actually consider buying an Evo and have them do their thing to it- never thought I would say that. Kudos guys great work as always.
Thanks man. If I want to get myself to the dark side you know you’ll be getting a call. Thanks for watching man
Fantastic content. Evooooooo! ❤
Will you all be making a video on the tear down of the current motor?
Yep we have that already filmed
I remember building my Evo 8 for 2 months, waiting for the Ams to send me the bottom end of my 2.3L and within in 2 days the oil pump failed and thru the crankshaft. If I'm not mistaken Chris knows the guy Brandon from Jacksonville who helped me out with the build
Gotcha. Thanks for watching !
Looking forward to the build
Soon!! Thanks for watching!
Beautiful build. I want to dry ice my Evo now! It will be back stronger and better I'm sure 👍🏼
Thanks buddy! Will be crazy
Looking forward to this build. You have a new subscriber Evo💛🏁
Thanks for the sub DJ ✊
Thanks bro!
Sick build! Wish I knew how much some of those services cost, bc my poor worn out IX needs some TLC...
It’s how much stress you can take dude that’s the fun of the game
Mann the Yellow is by far my favorite color in the Evo's. I wish I could get one without having to sell a kidney these days.
They’re so hard to find man. We lucked out with this chassis.
Interesting and informative 🇯🇲 💯 🍾
Solid video. Ending is hard to watch (been there), but that's just how it goes with performance cars. Keep up the good work, Pete!
Thanks for the continued support. We’re capturing your build now
Amazing job on that car. Loved this video, tons of information and cool stuff but not to drawn out! Can't wait to see how it does with the new engine.
Thanks e-dod. More to come. Appreciate you watching
Thanks so much man. Appreciate it.
Just came across your channel. Really well put together. Had an Evo 6 RS, always wanted an 8 though.
Thanks for watching. More to come !
I know exactly what you mean..i was upset 😡 when my evo kept giving me issues but once it was right it was fun🎉
It’s part of the process
Super content, I'm sure the Evo will be amazing in the end. Will subscribe 👍
Thanks so much. Can’t wait to do the second episode. Appreciate the follow
Luv this video!!! Great explanations of the different stages of modifying the EVO!!!!
It’s not always pretty but we always preserve. Share share share
Waited all week for the video. It definitely did not disappoint.🔥
Thanks so much !
I have an sr 20 vet that has me loosing my mind, I paused the project but I'm restarting soon.
Great video guys! I had a similar situation where I bought a used evo 8 with a "built" motor, spent money on parts and fab work, waited months to finish it all only to end up with a spun rod bearing and scored cylinder walls. Had to start fresh with a new motor, but now everything is done short of body work and interior (working on that at the moment). Keep at it though, it'll be worth it in the end!
ThBks brother. We’ll get it. Motor is almost done and we’re gearing up for round 2 gonna be sick. Thanks for watching 🫶
@hdwerks Awesome! Can't wait to see it! 👊🏼
Great video with great content, would love to know the specifics for the build and how you guys going to build it. Definetly looking forward to watch part 2 :)
Thanks Man! So we’re going to start doing part 2 soon. Waiting on some Parts to come in and we will Get to filming. Gonna be cool!
Nice video. Bummer the engine broke . If a 94mm crank is in the budget it just makes everything better on these cars.
Yep. We have a nice build in mind. We’ll keep you updated. All good tho. It’s part of it.
What a build. Someone know what's this speedometer ?
Haltech IC7
When converting the throttle body over to the skunkworks TB if you deleted the IAC or still running the factory IAC unit wirh the Haltech? Also, when relocating the catchcan set up super low does that create any vacuum pull or flow issues?
We still use the Iac no problem. We never delete the Iac. Never had any issues down low like that. We sometimes use a trans mounted can with the same success.
great vid! Do you recommend the Artec manifolds? Any comments on what sets them apart from other options?
Hey there. Yeah. We love the Artec product for many reasons but we love it for the simplicity and spool. Sometimes there’s a lot lost with tubular style manifolds. This model i would say is great for street + builds. They also make a bigger vband for larger frame turbos which flows even more. My favorite offering is the stock frame twin scroll manifold and complimentary 02 housing / 3.5 downpipe. Makena huge difference on stock frame turbos and keeps the classic evo tone. Grab them off PRP with our discount code for now. We will Offer them in the future on our site. -p
What's the ball park price to restore the paint for the lightning yellow evo?
Jjst really depends on the situation. Most cars need an overall restore top to bottom. We take them all the way apart and restore like oem. That’s the best results. If the car is good we can pick and choose. A la carte it. That’s usually not the situation tho.
This thing is perfect what are the specs on the wedsports?
Thanks man. I thought so also. They’re 17x9.5 if I remember. It’s been a minute. My absolute favorite wheel on an evo. These are the original tc105 not the new x version
What ID injectors are you guys running?
2150 for now. Will most likely do ID2600
Do you guys sell that exhaust system?
They’re hand made. I can make you something similar. We may start doing small Runs of our titanium line and GTR line. Thing sounds incredible
@@hdwerks how much would something like that cost?
🔥🔥🔥
👊
So how much does jared want for it?
Ha. Not quite yet. Maybe once it’s done
@@hdwerks haha let me know, its mine! 😂
Dạo này có gì mới không?
Episode 2 is coming soon
Must hav cost a bag of $$$$$ for all that work smh
🤷🏽 we’re fair. These cars are gems and need proper investment to restore them. Always options for all levels of restoration.
