Remember NBA2K11? Today, we're taking a look back at it to understand why so many regard it as the greatest 2K of all time. There have been some good ones after this, but I still think this one is king.

yes it did have a d league options, also if you started to do really bad after you were drafted to an nba team, they would send you back to the d league
my first try in my carrer was so bad that I was send to D-League (something weird at the time because I didn't even know that exist), and later on in the NBA, and it was great (sure, at first I was upset and furious, but when I try a couple of games, I was doing better, and, actually, enjoyed)
I agree 2k11 was the GOAT. I also think that gaming in general was better when it was ps2-ps3 generation. Not saying that today's gaming gen. is bad, it's just that gaming back then had a better feel than today imo.

#1 hands down was the controls! it was the most responsive, difficult yet simple control set up to date. that's why it was such a good game because the game did exactly what you wanted to do defensively, ball handling, finishing and post game

Dude hell yeah. I was also in 10th grade when 2K11 came out. Got it right after release and it was my favorite 2K to date, played the heck out of association mode. (2k17 is my first real online 2k though and I am loving it)

2k11 gave me so many memorable moments it had the best soundtrack,I had the most realistic career on mycareer and spent three years still playing it. I had to work for everything it felt like and I loved it.

i felt the same with 2k13 dont judge me but i still play that shit sometimes cause i spent 6 seasons playing for the Philadelphia 76ers am a sg sf and my dude 6'7 it was also the last thing that my grandma got for me before she died in a car accident matter of fact if i my memory right i was the 15 pick in the first round cause i was drafted to the 76ers and i won 5 nba championships with them it'll be 6 once i finish the regular season am close too
Jay Money my first myplayer was on 2k11 and he was a 6'7 pf lol i was drafted to the wizards i stayed a year with them then went to the nuggets my next season then my third season went to the pistons and finally got a ring. the fourth and final season i signed with the heat because the pistons were getting old and i was in my prime. i could go on about how realistic my player's career was man. i went as far to right down all his stuff down in a notebook to recreate him and all my other myplayers one day lol.

Just popping the game in seeing rhe intro and dirk in the main menu after him winning his ring. So much nostalgia. 2011 had so many good things. Wrestling was good. Tv was better. Looking for downloads but if I can't find the base game, I will be getitng it for PC emulation soon. People are not only rating 2K11 and 2K16 as the best of its time, everyone is still rating these titles as the best basketball video games of all time, to compete with today's games. that Jordan challenge was soooo fun ! 2k11 was the best. because of the jordan challenge and when you played with the greats i actually felt like you was playing with, the movements was so on point. now half of the legends dont even look like them. its like you just playing with a random person with a legend name attributes. Now the sound track for 2k11 was ok but 2k12 sound track was the best.

you could win basically every game in 2k11 through a combination of spin dunks, hopstepping into the paint and standing dunking, and spamming pumpfakes into shooting fouls with an occasional and-1. it was a great game that sold extremely well (first 2k game to outsell madden i think) and probably played a big part in the NBA's recent rise in popularity but it was also hilariously broken.

Watching this filled me with so much nostalgia.
Ultimately the reason why 2k11 is the best basketball game ever is because of the feel of the game. Of course more recent 2k's have more fluid complex animations, much more contact animations etc., but this results in a lot of 'lag', where you have less control because the game is playing out the animations. 2k11 was simpler because there was less animation and therefore player movement was more based on what you were actually doing with the analogue stick. This meant the feel of the game was more 'pure', more what you wanted rather than what 2k decides what happens. I still think 2k11 has better feel than any 2k since. However credit has to go to 2k17, it's the best 2k in recent years as long as you fix the sliders.

17 is fucking trash, archetypes are stupid its hard to be unique when you create like 7 archetypes, how about you build your character and choose what parts you can be good at, let people choose 3 things like speed/handle/pass speed/strenght/midrange defense/speed/strenght(post) pass/midrange/defense this archetypes shit made the game worse. 2k17 makes you feel like a scrub

personally, i liked 2k12. That intro got me in the mood to ball every single time. And when you played as historic teams it added a visual filter to match the television style of the time, like the 50/60 celtics playing in black and white
2k12 is my favorite with 2k11 a hair behind. I loved playing 11 but what 12 added with the other legend challenges and the introduction of a single game rookie showcase to my player was just incredible.

2K11 was the first 2K I played extensively. I played one and a half seasons in MyCareer, did all Jordan Challenges, and generally attempted to keep the rosters up to date when playing Association mode. There were a few things I absolutely loathed in MyCareer: -defenders had eyes in the back of their heads, which made throwing passes up the court on a break practically throwing auto-interceptions. -guys like Emeka Okafor would routinely outrun my 99 speed PG on a fastbreak and get in front of him. -teammates would gleefully shoot your team out of games, by not taking the open corner three, instead running into two defenders to take an impossible shot. -opponents always make their turnaround fadeaways, defended or not. -"have your opponent commit 6 fouls" -coach would sub my 6'0" PG in at the four sometimes, forcing me to defend Dirk/KG and the like. Other than that, I did enjoy it very much, even if it frustrated me endlessly. I also played 2K9, '13, '14, '15 and '16. '13 to me was solid, it improved on a few things that '11 had. I kind of liked '14 but the goaltending / kickball / over the back cheese was utterly annoying. '15 had shooting animations so inaccurate and slow that it rendered some players unusable as jumpshooters (Eric Gordon, Leandro Barbosa, Al Horford for instance). I've put 212 hours into it, though, so I clearly enjoyed playing it. Now I'm playing 2k16 and aside from the "player with 35 steal rating can always reach and pick Kyrie Irving, no foul call" cheese I've witnessed, it's a fine enough game. MyCareer is corny as hell, though. Wish I could play 2k9 again, for nostalgia sake.

I remember when I was a younger kid i had to wait till Christmas to get 2k11.. I would always see the 2k10 commercials and want to play it so bad.. I was so excited to play it when I opened it I was caught playing it for hours all Christmas morning hogging the tv up lol I miss those days so much and I know for a fact I know all the songs by heart....

I didn't even but another NBA 2K until 2K15 because this game was so incredible. Most fun I've had in dynasty mode maybe ever.
I seen this thumbnail in a recommendation. I just wanted to come here say....I CO-SIGN HEAVILY. I won't go all into detail... but the simplicity made the game beautiful.
2k11 is the best of all time. It's the reason I became a 2k person
2k14 is my fave because of the memories along with how much I enjoyed the mycareer and myteam that year maannn
