After viewing your video, we installed a a wire mesh and grass nesting arrangment, and my zebra finches have taken to it like ducks to water, thanks for the great idea!

hey mate awesome aviary, I'm trying build an aviary and been looking everywhere for ideas in terms of natural habitat setup etc. perfect example. do you get the various coloured gouldian finches breeding? offspring colour? and the idea of that hay stack like thing hanging for the birds to build a nest in is crazy. Do they just make their own holes and way into the hay stack? keep up the good work mate, cheers

no the water is shallow and does not get very cold at all where i lived. after this video you might see my maggot breeding set up, my wife was stoked when i started them.

how do you clean the aviary? im planning of also building one in the outdoors of my home but im not sure how i will clean the whole thing. and im also thinking of placing a stream so birds can shower and drink from there.

yes the gouldians dont care too much what colour their partner is. and the colours that come out in the young vary. the finches make their own holes and nests, but a little help to start them off doesnt hurt, just put the grass in and make a hole with your fist. thanks for the comment.

No zebs they just take over and stop the others from breeding. I had a lot of gouldians, and a pair each of ruddies, orange breasts, cordon blues, red face parrot finches, plums painteds star finches st helenas I think that's it. As for winter this was at the Gold Coast qld so very warm

Just wondering why you have your perches so high up and close to your clear sheeting. Doesn't it get hot in Summer? I know you're in NSW (I'm in Perth) but surely you have some hot summer days? Also wondering why you don't have more perches at the entrance end of your enclosure, or did I not just see them? Love the grasses and bracken in the wire for nesting :)

+Pfsif it gets to minus 10c up to 40c here but the main thing is to keep cool breezes off them, that's what really upsets them
