This is a prime example of why DEALER service isn’t always the best service. I swear sometimes the general public thinks Henry Ford himself is going to fix their broken Ford Taurus.
I think the idea is they use OEM parts and other places can put junk on. As for dealer techs that is a mixed bag. I had my F-150 brakes done at a dealer and they forgot a caliper bolt
Also how much experience could tech possibly have with a rare car like SHO
@@super8mate They are basically the same as the Ford Explorer, they are on the same platform. So they have seen thousands of those and the police interceptor models with the turbo V6. Mind you not every interceptor has the engine upgrade option, but it would be a platform they are very familiar with regardless.
Given the misfire after the WP repair was done under warranty when it didn't have to be, I'm not surprised they only fixed the problem and didn't throw more parts than needed at it.
If you have a good mechanic then go to them. But most people don't and don't know the difference between a good mechanic and a bad one. So they hedge their bets with the dealer.
The dealers service team really let the old owner down. Can't believe they didn't change the plugs and seeing that air filter 😢

Ecoboost owner here. You need to add 2 oil catch cans. You won’t believe the goop that travels into the intake from the PCV system. It’s worthy of its own video. I park outside and I have dump mine every 1k miles on my 75k mile Expedition.

@@derekspringer6448the engine being exposed to colder Temps when parked outside vs climate controlled garage creates more condensation inside the engine while warming up and cooling off which is caught in the catch can instead of mixing in with your oil/building up in pcv system. A engine kept warm creates less condensation and buildup in catchcan. If you had a catchcan you would notice it fills up faster in colder weather and the fluid is much lighter in color

Thanks for inspiring us and for sharing your knowledge. Definitely want to see Papa D and the SC'd Buick. Trust me, that Taurus is a GREAT daily driver.
be ready for the 2 piece spark plugs thatre notorious for breaking off half into the head. Also make sure you check on the cam phasers as well as if the timing chain tensioners are not blown out (they have an O-ring that blows out as they are pressurized with oil). Aside from that the 3V's are very solid. While you're in there check your roller followers as the center rollers bearings wollar out and then eventually totally fail (also oil pressure based, so any other oil issues like the tensioners, VCT solenoid, etc...can dominoe effect). pypes exhaust are a nice touch and doesnt drone - used to road trip mine 2000 miles at a time regularly.
@@frjhracing Thanks for the info. I'm making a list. Definitely concerned about those stupid plugs. What a dumb idea. Ford can make it hard to be a Ford Guy... And I will be doing a lot of "while you're in there..." I have reached out to the One owner for some history. He took decent car of the car with a few tasteful well done mods. Maybe the plugs have been changed. Fingers crossed.
First thing I highly recommend is a Catch-Can for the SHO. After all the work cleaning the heads. On top of being Direct injection and a twin turbo, A Catch-Can will keep it clean as whistle for a long long time, no more Carbon buildup. Moroso make's an excellent one. It has a drain valve so the can doesn't even have to be removed.
The JL passenger side oil separator does a good job on the cheap too

I worked at a Ford Dealership when the SHO Taurus came out in 1987 or 1988, I think. After driving it and seeing how fast it was I called a friend and told him to "get up here right now". I remember him getting it up to 105 MPH in 3rd gear with ease. That car was a blast!
That’s when they came with the Yamaha engine. The plumbing on those engines were insane.
@@ve3nsv I almost mentioned that. If memory serves, it was a Yamaha top end on a Ford block, but I'm not certain that's entirely correct. I do know that car with a five-speed transmission was a real screamer though.

Love the SHO. Owned a 94 with the Yamaha V6 that engine made the sweetest sounds revving it out. The plenum looked so crazy as well with those primary and secondary runners. What a car

Just looked them up, if they weren't 2 times the price of a Luxury SHO (AKA Lincoln MKS) I would have definitely picked one of those instead! You can buy a MKS AWD 3.5 Eco boost for damn near half the price of a SHO, I don't know why no one gets MKS's, it's literally a nicer better looking SHO!

I prefill sideways mount filters too, right when i start the oil change. By the time you are ready to put the filter on, the filter has absorbed most of the prefill and you usually dont spill any oil.
Love me a lsc video, i had an '18 taurus as well, but got the SEL trim, not the SHO. Definitely prefer my '11 camaro, however. 😂 Keep up the great work, Alex!

Another great score on that SHO. I've only been rear passenger in one, and at 65 (then), 6'1", and 255, there was plenty of room and great ride. Oh, heck ya - Papa D seems like righteous worthy for more video time, especially if the Regal upgrade happens. Thanks again for your videos. 👍

The older mustangs were nothing special. Has 225hp. The 4.6 weren't bad but the real mustang came back when the 5.0 Coyote was brought in. 420hp base with all the rpm they can turn plus the nasty, nasty sound they make. Love my 2017.

I had a 2014 SHO with the Performance Package for about 7 years and I installed a Gearhead Tune, CAI, exhaust, H&R lowering springs, etc. It was SO FUN embarrassing Mustangs, Camaros, etc!!! These did have some issues with the PTU. I hope you mod this SHO and keep her for awhile! 🏁 🏁 🏁 🏁 🏁 🏁 🏁 🏁 🏁 🏁
My dad bought a 1994 z28 w/Lt1. In 1994 We had a SHO pull up next to us . And rev it up. We laughed. Then we embarrassed the guy. .. easily. Idk. How much faster these newer turbo SHO's are. But it would have to be enough to embarrass an older SHO. To be beating Camaros
@@misterfixit5186 The newer ones with twin turbos are AWD and 365 HP and 350 ft lbs. My 2014 with a simple ECU tune from Gearhead put down over 500HP and 500 ft lbs. It's on my channel. I was dead even with a Camaro ZL1 LE until top of 3rd gear and he started pulling on me. He was with his girl and when we got to the next light I had to turn so I wanted to wave or thumbs up and he didn't roll window down, didn't look over - but I could see how pissed he was - hilarious!

You should get the American GTR, the Cadillac ATSV. The tuning potential is incredible!

Love the video! I have a 2012 Lincoln MKS 3.5turbo w85K miles and I'm sure it needs a valve cleaning as well. This video gives me confidence that I could do the same in a weekend in the home garage. I have heard that installing a oil catch can can help reduce the amount of carbon build up from the PVC system back feeding into the intake runners and valves. Look forward to additional videos on the SHO.
My wife had a 1987 Taurus SHO with the Yamaha 6 cylinder 5 speed manual that she loved. That was the drivers SHO. It was fast off the kine and could rev very tight. No SHO since then has had a higher winding engine than the Yamaha one. Find one of those if you really want to be impressed. The one you have is more of a Dad's car.

The sho has such a big following I had one and my wife loved it and fairly simple power gains these big boats can move pretty good I'd love to see you get more power and take it down the strip!
You are truly an inspiration. I like fixing cars myself. I don't want to pay an unnecessary amount to auto repairers for something I could do myself. I usually watch KZhead stuff so I know roughly how to do it.
