Lorde - Fallen Fruit (Lyrics)
To the ones who came before us-
All the golden ones who were lifted on a wing
We had no idea the dreams we had were far too big
Far too big
And we will walk together
Psychedelic garlands in our hair
Through the halls of splendour where the apple trees all grew
You’ll leave us dancing on the fallen fruit
From the Nissan to the Phantom to the plane
We’ll disappear in the cover of the rain
Took the great minds and the vapers
And a pocketful of seed
It’s time for us to leave
And we will walk together
Psychedelic garlands in our hair
But how can I love what I know I am gonna lose?
Don’t make me choose
The part: "From the nissan, to the phantom, to the plane. We'll disappear in the cover of the rain" always give me chills.
ME TOO

She just glowwwwsss 🥺☀️
It's Midsommar aesthetic, she understood the assignment
well it’s a hippie album
Zzz
people are forgetting that this isn’t supposed to be a growing up and teen feelings album, like her other two, it’s her being an adult now and I think that’s beautiful, even if not for everyone
I actually think you are wrong. This is still a growing up album, even more than that, it’s about maturing and understanding personal evolution as something quintessential of the human species, seeing the world with a new perspective as you age and try to connect to it as long as you can. “O, was enlightenment found? No, but I'm trying Taking it one year at a time” Oceanic Feeling - Lorde
She is just 25 wtf we need pure heroin type album 🥺.
@@ugurkoksal2976 no, she literally said “now the cherry black lipstick is gathering dust in a drawer, I don’t need her anymore” in the song oceanic feeling. she’s saying that she’s moved on from the pure heroine era and grown up from the depressed teen she was when she made that album.
I love these songs when I'm watching it with the music video. I think the songs lose a little something though sans music video.
She's digging 70s hippie culture in 2022. Everyone knows that didn't work, and not gonna happen again. We're over it 40 years ago. That's why people are disappointed with this new album. None of her messages are relatable nor really matter in 2022. She's basically roleplaying hippie with the money she earned from her previous albums. Unlike her, most people have to work 40 hours a week to pay the bills. I mean, If I had several millions, I surely will go hippie too.
This era is amazing and mature. I don’t get why everyone was disappointed when the album came out.
@@graemehenderson1743 don't listen to Graeme Henderson. I saw him in a news story, he's a middle-aged man that gets arrested chaining himself to fences. When he's not doing that he spends his days and nights defending the honor of all of Lorde's videos. He's definitely a winner 🤣🤣🤣
Because the album is too simple. The sounds are not extraordinary, only fallen fruit has a little something but all the other are shitty. Thanks to Jank Anattoff
I agree
I think Solar Power was just a very disappointing album because it didn’t live up to Lorde’s past work. She set the standard too high for herself with Melodrama, and Solar Power didn’t come close to meeting that standard in terms of overall sound and songwriting. It also doesn’t help that fans waited over four years for this album to come out only for it to be extremely disappointing since it doesn’t seem to be of very good quality as would an album that’s been worked on for 4+ years would.
@@ajgerbi honestly I used to agree, but the album just hits different. Give it some time. I think nothing will top melodrama, but Solar Power surpasses Pure Heroin imo.
I find it funny just how LOVED Melodrama is today, because i remember that wasn’t entirely the case back in 2017. I have a feeling that the same will ring true for Solar Power and these songs in a couple of years. She’s just slightly ahead of the curve, as always.
She is always so ahead of everything. I would lie if I say I loved green light the moment it was released. It took me months to really appreciate it at its full. Some people only like albums when they have high score numbers. People based their judgment in others opinion’s. For me Solar Power as an album deserved so much more recognition, but it didn’t just because of the “sound”, lyrically it is as powerful as Melodrama. IMO (Sorry for the grammar english its not my first lengua)
don't know what you're talking about, i loved Melodrama the first time i heard it. it's the perfect album. a masterpiece.
@@elbeetlebeasto i agree, i loved it as well. however that wasn’t the case for a lot of people when it was released
@@elbeetlebeasto some people think the production was kinda weird in that time or even some structures of the songs we're bad
Agree. I only started listening to Lorde's music after Melodrama came out and it blew me away. Most of the people who had lived through Pure Heroine/The Hunger Games era felt differently.
The little details, the trash on the ground being picked up from the Solar Power MV, the feather fans left behind by the girls from Mood Ring, the peach pits left behind, the psychedelic mushrooms on her head, and finally how Ella is the one who has to stay on the island but Lorde gets to leave in a G-Wagon. There’s layers to this, holy shit.
but the girl in mood right neither ella nor lorde, that's a fictional character.
quick question how do u know who's Ella and who's lorde?
@@sanjivaniebhalla3760 lorde is a superstar she can manage to get a car at beach that is burning down. Ella is just a girl who is having fun spending time at the beach. There’s a slight difference of lipstick between the two.
@@manasmishra2103 wait but what is that meant to symbolise? Is Ella stuck on the sunny beach?
@@MarinaAndTheDevil she’s not stuck. She is just there having a good time as others are having around her. She doest’t need to escape, hence for lorde there is a car waiting but for ella the beach is clear. Actually this symbolises the lyrics of Oceanic feeling. If you listen to it, its very much ella having a good time by the beach with her family. In that song she is remembering her childhood and reflecting upon her future. She has incorporated many references from it.
How is no one talking about the skill that went into the production of this music video. It's an absolutely masterpiece. All these _FLAWLESS_ cuts from utopia to dystopia are insane. Also the close-ups you get of Lorde during day and night are quite beguiling. In the day light she seems very modelished and a bit posey even? At night time she's expressing a vulnerability- perhaps representing our arrogance to mother nature and the result of how one day she'll break our hearts.
I'm really really touched when artists continue to develop more from the mainstream. But Lorde was always braver anyway! I love that!

@@sanjivaniebhalla3760 It's from Lorde's newsletter: "In the Solar Power video, you were introduced to the island as a lush paradise - glistening water, blue skies, not a grain of sand out of place (barring that pesky beach trash…). Cut to: humans doing as they do, getting greedy, treating the land with disrespect and stripping it of its beauty. There’ll always another pristine place to start again, right? The gardens that were once lush and fruitful are now on fire. The fishing boats are busted up and overturned. All that’s left of the peaches are their pits. Hey I'm a huge Metalhead and absolutely love this young lady. Amazing talent.
The truth is it was just too far of a departure from her previous work. Many artists have tried, most have failed. She didn't study history & was doomed to repeat it.

Again I will say it this 61 year old grandma saw this young lady coming a long time ago. She is so very very wonderfully awesome
The ending is such great commentary on class disparity - when it comes down to it the rich will be comfortably escorted from the insupportable conditions caused by their inherited wealth and greed- while those less fortunate will be left to wither in the fires. Her escaping the dilapidated island in the very thing that fuelled its destruction (a vehicle) is a harrowing and profound image.

I actually came back to the video to write this exact idea! It's Genius!
And the way I see it, there's also an element of use and throw away mentality. If you perceive all of this in a more meta sense, in Solar Power she sang about nature and energy but after the music video is done and something real is happening she's just leaving it behind. It could also be a commentary on Hollywood and capitalism exploitation.
So true bestie
This is one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard. It has notes of Indie, Celtic, and classic rock. What a beautiful combination.
Best way to describe this masterpiece 👏
It's just a chamber folk song. Don't hear any celtic, or classic rock influences in it.

@@stickird915 I guess what I mean is, Enya and Clannad sound similar in certain ways, the songs take you into nature. That's what Lorde has intended, I think, so her acoustics sort of coincide with that. As for classic rock, we get more niche, if you've heard Stairway to Heaven, this seems to fit the vibe. As with all art, music is constantly up for interpretation, and that is mine. I'm no professional, just a music enjoyer who likes to juxtapose. :)

Watch her Tennis Court music video then. 😆
She shows how she’s just starting to realise and honour our mother, Earth, and how it’s so quickly being taken from us. She also shows how she feels guilt for being a celebrity and being able to be whisked away if things ever go bad, the last scene where everyone is running and she is greeted with a plastic water bottle and 4x4 shows she feels guilty the privilege that she hates may have to be utilised in the face of the climate crisis.

I didn't really care for Solar Power when it came out. I revisited it recently and I'm loooving it so much. Fallen Fruit and Stoned at the Nail Salon are my favorites. I just watched this video for the first time today. I was so drawn into it I literally could not blink. It's a masterpiece!
She said her album is inspired by the Antarctica trip she took in 2020 and you could just feel it. The peace, the calm, the storm, the untouchable feels of it. The juxtapositions in this album. She's as brilliant as it gets. She did not disappoint at all.
This album is a masterpiece, I'm sad that it's been received so poorly. This album will definitely come back around next summer and that's when everyone will revisit it and realize how much Lorde was ahead of her time. The relaxing, stripped back sound this album has is amazingly done and I really appreciate how the minimal production makes this album a very transcedental experience. The simple instrumentals, the bridges, the vocals, and the harmonies, her new sound is so unique and beautiful. However, I can see why not everyone will like it because of how situational and niche it is, especially after a highly produced heartbreak pop album. Amazing artist and one of the best and most unique body of works I've heard in a while. I've never had the perfect beach album until now and Lorde has once again not failed to impress me. The album grows the more you listen which makes it an acquired taste and you can tell how timeless it is because of it. It just resonates with me so much with where I'm at currently and I'm in love. Lorde describes her albums as special pieces of clothes that you only take out of your closet when you need them and I've never seen any other artist interpret their music that way. She is a genius and this album made me a very big fan of her.
I agree with this so much! And most of the people hating on Solar Power are not even looking at the album's music technical standpoint. They just keep hating because the critics said so and this mentality is making me so sad.
I’m so agree
I disagree, half of the album feels just uninspired. I've tried many times to like this album by listening to it it different contexts, but it just doesn't hit as much as Melodrama or Pure Heroine. Hopefully her next release will be better though. But I love the first half of Solar Power, it really feels like a proper sequel to Melodrama

Lorde has made it clear that she's criticizing the anthropocene on the album - wellness culture and how it appropriates indigenous practices, for example - and that this MV represents a choice that her character is making. But, am I the only one who interpreted this as Ella commenting on and denouncing colonialism? As someone from South America who's really into studying history, I think there's a lot to unpack from a white person arriving in a beautiful and full of life island in the morning, exploring it (the character in Mood Ring also indulges and profits from the native culture), then leaving gracefully in the night, while everything's destroyed and everyone's desperate to save themselves. Brilliant work.
Coloniality hasn’t ended though - so the critique of the anthropocene and exploitation/fetishisation of Indigenous cultures is inherently a critique of colonialism, because it proliferates those things. This critique is relevant globally and in NZ especially so - Maori experience higher rates of imprisonment, poverty etc. though these patterns are reflected in Australia, Canada etc. all colonised nations. Post-colonialism can only be achieved if us European descendants in these lands cede power to First Nations peoples.
Okay, but isn't Lorde being a hypocrate with this album? I mean, she's criticizing all that, but still make her appearence in the governor's ball and release a version of her album in the NZ native people language. That's the low point in this album for me. Lorde says one thing, but doesn't have the courage of doing the thing, change her actions, make her choices towards the end of that exploration of nature and native people and culture.
@@empressoera How? She created that version after seeking the opinion of people working to protect & GROW the language? She also doesn't take the profits from it? As somebody from nz, isn't she in her way trying to respect the native language? I would've agreed with you if she didn't get the approval of people working to protect the language. A language can only grow if more people speak it, right?
This.
@@empressoera I think your points are logical, and I admit that I don't know much about New Zealand's politics. But regarding Solar Power's Maori version, she explained in an e-mail that all profits made from that album are being donated to charities that protect the environment and indigenous communities in NZ. At the end of the day, this debate is kind of a paradox because there are native people who think that Lorde is uplifting their voices and empowering their language, but there are also natives who don't look up to celebrities for empowerment and don't really care about her album since their language still suffers with a lot of racism in their country, and both sides are valid.
The album grows the more I listen to it, day after day ☀️

The last 2 minutes of this song are some of my favorite in all of music
Solar Power is the most visually appealing production for me.
THIS SONG FEELS LIKE MAGIC TO MY EARS. THE VOCALS, THE LYRICS AND NOW THE CINEMATOGRAPHY IN THIS OMG IMMA CRY
the music video really fits this song- the flames, the tropical scene and lorde’s stunning dress. It really suits the guitar and backup vocals ♥︎
So from my perspective, its like she left the better half or part of herself on the island, and whatever it represents, she feels like the pursuit of her career has tainted or even ruined her previous satisfaction with life. The G-Wagon seems to represent the luxurious lifestyle that she embraced, but in doing so, she left behind something she didn't learn to appreciate until it was gone: simple peace.
this song IS music, album Solar Power IS pure music
The whole album is a masterpiece, but so underrated. This album deserve more recognition
Eyy a Wandavision and Lorde Stan, awesome
Yes .... iam not a big fan and i think that solar power is a great album
In 3 years people will be obsessed with this album
It absolutely is. I really love how she talks about a recovering addicts in “dominos” and how her golden man in “California love” doesn’t satisfy her anymore. I feel like she’s in a really healthy place right now. I don’t meen to say she does drugs, but the evolution of her music from Pure Herion vs this album is very intresting!! ♥️♥️ So many double meanings and ughh I’m so in love with this album
"But how can I love what I know I am gonna lose? Don’t make me choose" Excuse me while I go and cry my eyes out 🥲
My favourite part 💓 in the whole song, gives chills ❤️
@@great390 mine too!!!
i LOVE this era
Holy fuck, this totally feels like a song I'd hear in the 60s. Absolutely LOVE this vibe!
love you and Solar Power, im sorry the world couldnt understand this masterpiece of an album
All she wanted to do was enjoy the solar power on the beach, now she is being pulled back into civilisation...Free Lorde. I love this body of art😍
I cant imagine what a colossal remixes will born for this track. She is a genius . With Solar Power i adore her more and more..
Can she be more iconic? Like damn!

Ok
Instantly one of her best music videos
I knew I loved @KahlenBarry for a reason. This great taste in music 😌
one of her best
This song represents a movement to save the dying
Soo nice to lisen to this 🥀
To the ones who came before us All the golden ones who were lifted on a wing We had no idea the dreams we had were far too big Far too big And we will walk together Psychedelic garlands in our hair Through the halls of splendor where the apple trees all grew You'll leave us dancing on the fallen fruit The fallen fruit The fallen fruit The fallen fruit From the Nissan, to the Phantom, to the plane We'll disappear in the cover of the rain Took the great minds and the vapers And a pocketful of seed It's time for us to leave And we will walk together Psychedelic garlands in our hair But how can I love what I know I am gonna lose? Don't make me choose
This song is literally about how bad our climate is changing and those who can change that aren’t doing anything about it 😪
Damn, what a deep interpretation I’ve never thought about it that way
Oh honey, it's not us, it's the mfs burning coal to make plastic which will end up on our seas, blame them!, Cuz I'm pretty sure recycling is not gonna save us from the doom that's coming for us, become a strong community, survive and protest
instead they will fly to climate summit in their private jet :D
@@louieboy8340 but thats what they said - "those who can change"... i think you misunderstood OP
and it's released during COP26
She has a voice like no other
Favorite song on her album Solar Power
I remember vividly when I was mesmerized by Royals back in 2013.. and now here I am, still listening to this majestic artist. Keep making new music Lorde, your arts will be classic!!
