The words above -"s*atana" and v*ttu" are loan words as well - from "germanic" languages. For example in swedish "satan" and "f*tta". And finnish together with estonian belongs to "finnic language group" since even the "finnish-ugric" groups are apart.

  • For those who are suprised by how harsly they can joke about one another I think it is important to understand that the bond between nordic countries today is very strong, more between some countries then others, due to a long shared history, the closeness in culture, language, social norms etc etc. It is sometimes almost like the bond between siblings who love eachother but still fight and pick on one another. If you google you can for example find long lists of norweigan jokes about swedes and vice versa. It's just fun and games and the humor we can have with one another! But I understand if it can sound harsh since not all nations have the same sort of bond to another/other countries and that it can be unfamiliar to some viewers. Edit: Thanks for all the likes! ❤😊

But seriously, although it is clearly a generalization, I' have noticed some fairly specific personality traits when I was there. I'm talking about, of course, the famous introvertedness of Finnish people - which, I emphasize, is a prejudice - but seems to me actually true for some level. And this is indeed a thing which I can sympathize with, because nowadays everything is about being loud, extroverted, communicative, etc, but they are not. And I like it.

Vikings didnt really fight Finns, they were very symbiotic with them, the only raids they did were failures and they chose to do trade as at the time Finns crafted the best swords. Blacksmiths and similiar crafts have a very Mythological and Divine position in Finnish mythology and likely was a part of how Finnish people were seen at the time along with being wizards and shamans.

      @pyromorph6540@pyromorph65403 жыл бұрын
    • @@pyromorph6540 yep, Vikings were also scared of Finns, they thought that Finnish women can cast spells and make ships sink. There were couple of battles, where only few Vikings survived alive even though Finns were outnumbered. This “troll “ thing is interesting. At least swedes used (probably still do) think that Finnish people are darn ugly and they called us mongols etc. They also measured our features (like they did to Jews in Germany) to make sense why these people look so different. This was of course later in the 19th century. So in you Scandinavian eyes we might look trolls,but at least Tolkien saw some beauty in Finns and Finnish language when he wrote the lord of the rings.

  • I’m a Southeast Asian, I don’t know why I’ve been so invested in watching Scandinavian or Nordic related videos. The slow TV thing in Norway really amazes me.

  • Why am I not surprised at the patronizing Swedes. 🤣🤔 They only had bad things to say about Norway and Finland. Like... We get it - you used to own us...

  • I lived in Sweden and worked in Denmark, so I had to travel every day. I would say that I really liked Denmark, but the way I felt after coming to Sweden cannot be described. For me as a foreigner Sweden is so AMAZING place and my heart left there. Even that Danmark was beauty also, there is something so special about Sweden that make me feel inlove and like home.

    • Swedes think they have no culture worth of preserving. That's why they are so happy for and friendly towards immigrants. They love everything non-Swedish, especially everything Middle Eastern (with the exception of everything Jewish).

  • I just love to see that kind of "stereotyping" each other completely light-hearted and even with a pinch of self-deprecation. I just hope I will live long enough to see the same kind of relation between my fellow Balkanians... :-(
