In my 60s, I never wear shorts anymore, except for hiking and gardening. I don’t miss them at all! I find linen and cotton dresses and skirts cooler, much more comfortable, and more fun to wear. As a bonus, my thighs are protected from hot car seats, or seating in public spaces. Sitting on a black metal outdoor cafe chair in shorts on a hot sunny day can be quite a shock! 🔥😳
Oh yes GREAT point about those metal chairs in shorts - eek!!!
Not to mention no need for sunscreen on your legs or mosquitoes leaving nasty red bites which I seem to be a magnet for!
Yes. Due to many surgeries on one leg, I no longer feel comfortable in shorts. I agree that linen pants and fun skirts are much more fun❤
Shorts are so not igenic... for people sitting on the same seat the person wearing shorts did... it is similar to wear underwear only, un less they are long shorts (or one never sits down), in this case they are okay.
In the 50's the trend was to have a three piece matching set. It consisted of a cotton shell, shorts and button front skirt which was to buttoned at the top to show off the shorts during the day. In the evening, the shorts are removed and the skirt buttoned.
Oh wow!
I think there was a similar trend in the 70’s, I remember my mom making us these sets with long skirts and a top to be worn over shorts and we thought we were the height of fashion. I’m pretty sure she saw it in a magazine. She used to read McCall’s faithfully LOL.
The 2 pieces suit was called " hot pants ", a button front or zip front dress with a short under.
Yessss to Linen pants in the summer!
i thought the mic was totally fine. Always enjoy your take on things
Thank you SO much x
Pants under a dress may look good if paired correctly, but all that fabric won’t be cool on a hot summer day.
It really depends on the fabric to be fair x
Im not going to do it. I had a pair of pants with a built in apron in the y2k. And people kept trying to get me to take their order at a bar we went to.
Leonie🎉 your skin looks amazing 🌿💕💕
My best alternative to shorts is roomy linen skirts, or good quality 100% cotton. I call them " ventilators", plus no need to have perfectly shaved legs! I loved all your options and outfit ideas.
YES! My mom had a store and sold linen sets and I haven’t found anything like it since (without out the hot polyester) 😅 Still on the look out! If you have any suggestions where to find linen pants or sets please do share ❤
@annlatham I thrift most of mine; or make them with sheets and tableclothes.
Yep, maxi skirts & dresses made from cotton or linen all the way. Much more comfortable than shorts
Thanks, great options! The sound is clear and good!
Yay, thank you!
I LOVE THE NEW MICROPHONE!! 😂😂I didn’t even know my phone had 2 speakers 😂😂😂
Ok that's great to hear thank you x
I'm 57 and I wouldn't think twice about wearing shorts. For me it's about wearing the appropriate clothes for the weather. So cords in the winter, jeans when it warms up a bit, then chinos when the weather gets quite warm, then linen trousers and then shorts. I like smart, structured tailoring, classic jeans and a blazer look. And in summer I can just do this with my bermuda shorts and a linen blazer and either a t-shirt or short sleeved shirt. A lot of the alternative options were quite floppy, floaty and/or unstructured. I wouldn't feel comfortable in anything like that. I feel I need a bit more structure. For me it's tailoring all the way!
Gorgeous samples of dresses over pants! I have a sleeveless linen dress that looks so good over linen beach pants I’ll probably never wear it on its own.
I love linen pants and cargo capris. As a 63 year old preschool teacher I find these comfortable, provide good coverage and work well work for me.
Mic- your in and out I really appreciate your fashion sense. It's good you encourage everyone to dress comfortably without worrying about what others think. Could you please possibly pick some clothes that aren't so high priced? We're all having to stretch our budget, but would like to have something new for the new season. Thanks! Keep up the good work 😊
Love classic Bermuda shorts
i love wearing shorts; but these are GREAT alternatives!
I agree ☝️
So glad you think so!
Don’t do shorts anymore but I love skirts and dresses all summer ❤
Nice!
I don’t have nothing against the shorts, if I find ones, that more interesting and fit me well. But I kind of love jeans , pants, and dresses. I even don’t wear too many skirts. And if I wear mainly maxi. Although I just added a few midi, Ones, one from Prada with some sheer element, nothing too much, I think very wearable , love trend pants under dresses. I wear a lot of maxi dresses/ kaftans, and most of the time I wear pants, or sometimes sheer leggings. But I think pants add that more fashion forward, edginess. Phoebe Philo, for Celine had lots of these type of looks in the old Celine archives collections. Yes to all maxi. Easy to wear. Love shirt dresses, or just oversized shift dresses. Have a blessed day🙏❤️
Great topic. Thanks for the list of options to consider!
Thanks for watching!
Skirts, linen pants, loose baggy pants, and cargo pants are great, I only wear short shorts to the beach.... I dont know why some people plug shorts as being 'dressy', maybe if youre in your 20s with matching jacket, but after 30, nope! Love all your photos of various styles.❤
Watching this at work w headphones & there is only audio in my right ear while in the sponsor portion of the video the audio was only on my left I still watched it through 😅
Ok that is SO random as I filmed the whole thing at the same time and didn't change the settings. Might need to go back to the drawing board - arggghhh!
Same
Same for me 😅 (also wearing headphones - the intro/outro music I could hear in both ears)
Same! I'm using speakers on PC.
I use the blue tooth option with my hearing aids and I’m getting audio only in my right hearing aid. Still, it’s coming in clear.
Thanks for all your inspiration and alternatives in the video! And I think the mic is good. /Marie from Sweden
Being someone who was born and raised in Texas, I have always worn shorts all year round. Now that I’m in my early forties I don’t see that changing. Our weather in the last few years have been hotter and hotter every year. We had over 80 days of 100+ degree temperatures where I’m at in West Texas. I stay in light weight spaghetti strap dresses in the summer.
Fair enough too - that's HOT!
Great vid! Wonderful to see the options you discussed. Pants under dresses is not new, for example south asians have been wearing them forever, they are called shalwal khamise (literally pants and shirt). Thank you for your content!❤
Hi Leoni! What T-shirt are you wearing? I love the neckline and the sleeves.
Maxi dresses are great if you're tall and thin. Not the least bit flattering if you're short and "thick".
Sounds seemed fine to me. Thx for video.
I was thinking about this exact idea going into summer here❤ thx!
Perfect!
Your settings for your mic are incorrect. Only coming through on either my left or right side, but not both :)
Ah, you finally hit on my favorite for summer: Knee length skirts with some oomph at the waistline; usually pleated or a-line. I love these to give me hips, plus I love the roomy feel when I'm sitting; and they are much more breathable than shorts! I have been searching high and low for two years, for a high rise, wide leg Bermuda short, but they either seem to come with no hem (ugh), or no button close (I Really dislike the hook and bar and they never lay flat and just add bulk at the belly). Great suggestions!
Great video once again!! Thank you !! ❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video wirh a lot of various great options, thank you! I always go for a maxidress in the summer. But the last 5 years I started to wear shorts again, cause I found a really nice pair of black linen shorts. I wear them with a tank top or a camisole and an open white or light blue linen buttondown shirt. Another great option is to wear the shorts and the top with a kneelengt or longer kimono. Also I love to wear my summer kimonos with a strap dress, could be very short or just under the knees. You get some cover for your legs and also get some breeze in a hot summer day.
Always love your videos Leonie. Not sure about that mic, sound wasnt great and harder to hear.
Oh sorry about that!!!
The mic works really well! Thanks for another great video❤
I just don't find shorts very physically comfortable. In the summer I prefer light weight maxi dresses/skirts, flowy gauze pants or even "harem" pants & joggers. Unless you are swimming or at a beach I don't see the point of exposing your skin to the sun. Being scantily clad does not make you feel cooler in my experience. But I burn easily & prefer to avoid sun exposure altogether. Everyone should wear what they find comfortable so I'm not condemning wearing shorts or tank tops if that's your preference :)
The longer top over pants is very elegant and cool.
❣❣❣ Another excellent video. Thank you. 🙂
You are so welcome
Enjoyed all the options. I saw many women in Europe last summer wearing light pants under dresses. I think it was to be warmer when wearing a dress when it wasn’t super warm. Re: mic. I only heard you via one of my hearing aides at a time vs. Both. (The hearing aides also serve as ear pods). This doesn’t happen with other videos and podcasts. Thanks for your content!
You sound good either way. Thank you!
I see the comments here about the mic and for me it’s not the quality of the sound, but just that it’s only coming through my right ear bud. I’m guessing it’s just a matter of making sure your stereo vs mono settings are correct.
Hmmm yes thanks for letting me know - I'll see if I can work that out x
I found the sound quality to be weaker with your little mic! Love your IG posts 🤗
Ok thanks for letting me know and yay I'm pleased you enjoy my Insta x
I really love wearing maxi dresses in the summer.
I love wearing shorts in the summer if they are somewhat fuller than tight fitting. I have cuffed shorts now, but I stay away from real short shorts like 4" or 5" length. Bermuda shorts just above the knee are nice too, as I'm 5'2". I loved all your options here too. (I like your simple white tee with the necklace, gives me ideas!)
You forgot about scorts they are definitely cute 😍
OF COURSE!!!! How could I have forgotten skorts - thanks for the reminder x
Good sound with the mic! Love your videos ❤
Yay, thank you!
Give me a high thread count and tightly woven cotton or silk fabric, over linen any day. (Think of Egyptian cotton or silk bed sheets.) Also another favourite is gauze that is easy wear as well as maintenance, plus has beautiful flowing draping qualities. As to designs in lieu of shorts, do appreciate your suggestions.
I don’t think I could tell a difference in the sound quality. Thank you for the video!
Good to hear! Thx for watching 🙏🏼
Will you do some summer wedding guest wear?
The dress over pants looks nice when both pieces are matching in colors. I think it’s similar to Indian wear, they wear long dress like tunics with pants, it’s very flattering and elongate the body! I rarely wear shorts, I do live in Florida which is a warm climate but I’ve found skirts and sundresses way more comfortable than shorts and perfect for hot climates.
Hi Leonie, your beige midi skirt looks nice. What brand is it please?
Thank you, unfortunately the sound only came through one of my AirPods when you were talking, but the music (intro) came through both.
I heard you perfectly and I think you look great. FWIW I have a seven percent hearing loss and own hearing aides although I was not wearing them to watch you on my ipad. The volume was on about 50%. Not sure what everyone was complaining about.
Okay that is great to hear thank you. I'm honestly surprised to hear that people are having trouble with the sound too as it is fine at my end - arrggghhh!
Nice alternatives to shorts. I like to wear shorts but only when I'm at home in my garden. Howerver, the option with the pants under skirts or dresses is maybe not the best option because shorts you might wear when it's really hot outside, and I can not immagine to wear pants AND a skirt or a dress on a hot summer day... but maybe on a cooler summer day or in spring it could be an option.
The mic is good. Could you share the brand of top you're wearing?
Great thank you. My tee is just this one: www.decjuba.co.nz/products/chloe-crew-tee-brightwht?variant=42476937478332
The new mic is fabulous.
Thank you Debbie 🙏🏼
I actually thought you had a piece of chocolate or cake in ur hand that you were gonna munch on 😂😂😂😂
Oh gosh that's so funny - but that is also so me - I LOVE chocolate x
@@Thestyleinsider. Me too 😋
The new mic was not very good 😮! Even with my volume at max was hard to hear❤️
Oh gosh sorry about that!
Only one of my EarPods is working when you’re talking. They both work with Ads and “square space ad”
Pants under dresses is a definite no for me 😊
❤❤❤❤❤
🙏🏼
A dress over a pants is from the ‘70 ties.
Shorts are not my favorite. I don’t like the backs of my legs touching seats/chairs and I don’t like how they ride up between my thighs when I walk. But Bermuda shorts are coming back and I think I may try wearing these longer shorts under a partially unbuttoned skirt of a shirtdress. In my mind it sounds cute, I hope the execution lives up to my vision. 😂
Great vid great info and interesting ideas I love wearing long shorts with leggings 👍🏿👏🏿😍😍😍❤️❤️❤️💯💯💯🔥🔥🔥🔥
Pants under a skirt or dress is soo uncomfortable. Too many layer to work with.
Me heading to IG 🏃🏾♀️🥰🤩
Aww thank you 🙏🏼
I am an absolute fan of wearing culottes in the summer 🤗 Light, not too long or too short, colourful and flowy without being a dress or a skirt. Mic feedback: I wear headphones and only hear you talking in only one ear but the intro music is in both 🤔 (so it’s not the headphones 😅)
What happened with my headset?... I am the only one that only hears the right side when Leony is talking?... 😢 But the ads and the music came from both sides 😅 I don't know what happens.... At the beginning I thought that was the new microphone 🎙️
No, you're not the only one.
So instead of shorts, add more layers?
The sound is perfect, but you look like you’re about to eat a Oreo 😁 love your content always!
That's funny LOL I love Oreo's too x
Not on Instagram
Appreciate the effort of substitutes for shorts but the very loose pants or dresses/skirts will make anyone over 110 lbs will look huge😬
The sound is only from 1 channel, from one of my headphones, not both
When the squarespace ad was playing there was no sound.
The sound wasn’t as good as usual with the hand held mic, which is a shame.
Oh sorry about that but thanks for letting me know x
I have good legs but somehow I don’t like to wear shorts. Thanks for the suggestions
my thighs always scrunch them up in the middle - aka my thighs eat my shorts and then I'm walking around with the middle feeling like a giant maxi pad :'(
Not good sound w mic
Oh nooooooo
It sounded great to me!
I think it sounds great!
Agree, do not like sound
Sounds great in my car ❤
I usually love your videos but living in Texas .brutally hot, adding a 3rd layer just doesnt make sense. Shorts for me are for dog walks only. I was discussing this very topic with my nail technician yesterday. It was in the 80 s and humid. I wore a pair of Chicos pants not quite ankle length and not quite capris with a loose short sleeve tee. I added dainty jewelry to dress up the tee. She told me she is going to be wearing capris.😮 I have several pairs of linen pants that I like but then the top must not be flowy ..a more close to 5he body look... and the linen of course wrinkles after one wear. The Chicos pants do not wrinkle and last " forever". Im going to look for more ankle length pants to wear with my tops. I bought more white short sleeve tops much like you are wearing. Collared and plain. At 5'2" and 155 pounds I would look and feel ridiculous in the outfits you presentes. I do love what you are wearing. I think Keeping it simpleis better. As for dresses, i need to use leg make up for knee length.
Using earbuds, can only hear sound out of one ear at a time.
I’m watching the video whilst having headphones on, your voice is only coming through from the right side. The sound effects are coming through from both sides
Mic sounds fine to me
You know the best part of maxi length???... Dont have to shave your legs❤😂😂!!!! I love the Bermuda short with a biker boot..... ❤
Can you put the mic under your hair or back of your neck clipped to your shirt? The desk seems the same distance as your hand from your mouth.
Ok sound
👍🏼
Your Mic is not on😢
Yes it was on - did you get no sound at all?
Sorry to be negative, but none of these looks work for 4'11". Mic not good.
A tunic top & pants are not a new idea... Maude like. It's a nope for me.
HOW is wearing more clothes going to keep you cool? Make this make sense??
It makes sense in India and it's scorching there in summer. Women wear Anarkali and kurta suits, which consist of 3 parts, the pants, the long tunic, and the scarf. It's all about the cotton and silk, covering the skin is more cooling than baking it exposed to the sun.
Air is an insulator. If you have more loose layers on, the air between the layers of fabric works as an insulation, not only in winter, but also in summer. Besides, if you're covered head to toe in a garment that is shaped sort of like a tube (a dress or tunic, I'm sure it also works with looser pants but in that case you have two tubes, one on each leg) and the tubes work like a chimney - hot air is getting sucked out the top, like in a chimney, so the circulation of the air near your body under the clothing, from bottom to top, works sort of like a breeze on your body, making the sweat on your skin evaporate and makes your skin cooler. Tuaregs in Africa wear long robes and have been for centuries, it works. I now also mostly cover my skin from the hot sun in summer, I even wear long sleeve silk blouses and long linen pants on basically the hottest days and it creates a much better thermal comfort than when I used to wear skimpier clothing, it's definitely cooler. The fabrics need to be from natural fibers, "breathable", not polyester
Couldn't have answered this better myself!
Your mic is only on the right side, not stereo. Probably not what you were going for
The sound was not good. I could hear you only in my left ear plug. The right one went on only for couple of seconds.
These outfits are mostly not practical! I love your advice and videos but cmon these outfits are so cumbersome and not for everyday people. Linen pants , yes , simple skirts , yes . But mostly these were for fashion shoots w super models.
The sound is horrible, can't really hear you. I had to turn my sound up to the highest level just to hear you.😢
Oh gosh sorry about that
Like the old life is short eat the cake, if you want to wear shorts do so.
The sound is verry low and demping.
I love wearing shorts, but they’re not as comfy as a short skirt.
I could hear but sound was a little weaker. Oh NO no dress over pants!
Pants under a skirt/dress would be too warm.
Hiiiii.leony pants under dress.no.for me but I like linnenn trends lovely and palaso pants my style.youre face look nice and shiny love it see youooo
Too much talking- it’s frustrating. Focus on the photos and not you. Commentary is fine, but the visual should be mostly the ideas you are looking to present.
Women like the emotional connections in this manner, as the time she speaks allows processing of information, because they can feel self conscious the time it takes to deliver information is important. It’s one of many reasons why her growing audience appreciates her content and find her relatable.
Terrible sound from the mic… :(
Ladies celebrate your body... focus on what you love the most.... stop saying i don't like... otherwise you'll never feel pretty
