I think about a lonely guy walking down the streets in the suburbs winout a cent to his name. Like a walking dead, with a 1000m stare. Well aware that is no way out of his misery, cursed with existing. Probably with some dark business on his belt. Who knows? Maybe some lenders are looking for him? Or he rated out some drug business and the drug lords are looking for his head. In any way, each breath is a borrowed one. A poor soul, walking down the street in a cold night, under the orange glow of sodium lightposts.

First time I heard "Starshine" was very late at night, I was 10 years old (year of the Gorillaz album release) and was playing Metal Gear Solid on Playstation in a dark and very cold winter night. I got so creeped out. This constant "White Noise" and the opacity where no gamma rays or any sort of light can't go through, desolate snowy land, sterile and barren landscape, absorbing and swallowing the slightest spark of joy or phosphorescent pigment. A monochromatic sky and a pernicious blizzard. If you scream, the sound will be annihilated. Anyway, it's a forgotten area where you're all alone. Like an Arctic explorer who'll never get rescued... Second time was because of Jean Reno in a fantastic movie named "Wasabi".

around 2004 I've learnt to play guitar and since then I've never stopped playing. In my early years with guitar, I started to play this "starshine" riff but I didn't what song it was or where I've heard it. For years, if I'm next to someone I always played that riff and asked if they knew what song that was. 2 weeks ago I started rewatching one of my childhood movies "Wasabi (2001)" and I heard this song again after all those years. and here I am finally reunited with my long lost favorite guitar riff.

There are lot of underlooked non-singles. And some of them are really good :) Every Planet We Reach is Dead, Latin Simone, 5/4, O Green World, Ghost Train, Rockit, All Alone, Slow Country are some of them :)
Try The Parish of Space Dust
Unsyed433 I always forget about sweepstakes unless I hear it
5/4, murdoc is god, slow country
There are quite a few great underrated songs that aren't singles. Including this one. I'd also include Man Research, Sound Check, M1 A1, Bill Murray, New Genius, and so on to the lists that people have composed in this comment section.
this one and rhinestone eyes always used to scare the shit out of me when I was younger. Now there is just something about it that reminds me of listening to it while driving down a dirt road in my truck in the dead of night. It brings me a lot of calmness, and not necessarily happiness, but content.
What model truck do u have
...scare?
Why did it scare you?
shout out to those who are suffering because their left ear/headphone/speaker is broken
Which is everyone. Just a bit of terrible panning on Gorillaz' part; still love this song though!
My left headphone is broken and it sounds the same??
No, right is like broken
My right one is broken.
For me It was Always the left one to break first for some arcane reason. Always within 3 months from when i used them first. Magik...
i adore this song, it sounds so horribly lonely and hopeless. it kind of gives me an image of a guy trapped under the rubble with rescue helicopters always going past him.
Or being lost in space. How horrific
@@nysportsfan2576 oh my god, now everytime i hear this song i think of a lone astronaut in space drifting away as their oxygen runs low, then getting sucked into a black hole
@@acynder1 depressing... love it!
that's such a perfect description
I've got starshine in a bag
Link The Hero Of Hyrule nice
Never gonna find me but not for long the future
I ve vot shoeshine In a bag
Dam it i was going to comment that :/
OoO
I remember my cousin gave me a bootlegged CD of this album when it first came out in 2001. Had never heard anything remotely close to it. Couldn’t be categorized and knew Gorillaz was going to be special in the yrs. to come
They're really something else, huh. It's as if they exist in between genres in their own little pocket universe. Powerful stuff, and frequently overlooked even by its own fans. Starshine is a prime example. It's a gorgeous song, but so underrated.
The vocals are so eerie. It's great.
+Without Method u okay?
+Without Method Got a good laugh out of me. I love how triggered you got over a comment about how I like a songs vocals. Try again next time, kiddo ;)
+Without Method learn to spell, sweet heart ;)
sweet heart their you fucking dumbass
People like you should stay away from Gorillaz, the community isn't cancerous besides that russ impersonator on the wiki.
(If you want to hear the song use left earbud) Starshine never gonna find me Starshine, they ain't gonna find me Starshine, never gonna find me Starshine, never gonna find me Stand easy with myself, with myself Jumping up, I'm low, low, low, low Show me down Starshine never gonna find me Starshine, they ain't gonna find me Starshine never gonna find me Starshine, never gonna find me
I'm guessing 2-D had nothing to drink that day of recording.
2-d :can someone get me a cup of tea? Murdoc: no, now sing the song. 2-d: StAArShiNe
Mind ya business
Or maybe too much 😂
Drier than sahara/kering parah pak
He definitely sounds tired
Solution to ear bud problem: 1. Get splitters 2. Plug in two pairs of ear buds 3. Listen to both of the left ear buds Woo
Or turn the audio into mono
Gorillaz sure knows how to make all of their songs in an album great, self-titled and Demon Days especially. Love it.
[Hook: 2D] Starshine, never gonna find me Starshine, they ain't gonna find me Starshine, never gonna find me Starshine never gonna find me [Bridge: 2D] Stand easy with myself, oh, myself Jumping up, I'm low, low, low, low Show me down [Hook: 2D] Starshine, never gonna find me Starshine, they ain't gonna find me Starshine, never gonna find me Starshine, never gonna find me
this song makes my chest hurt but like in a good way idk how to describe it
Like sadness but you're still happy.
juno you should go see a doctor
Mr. Egg that's the perfect description
bittersweet.
Melancholy
The guitar has some kind of seductive, hypnotic affect on one's soul after a while. Love how enticing the instruments flow into each other
The art of Noodle
This song brings me a crushing feeling of nostalgia and it just makes me sad Brings me back to a time and a place that was so empty it still hurts me ...but it is a great song nonetheless
It reminds me of my pets Starlight and Starshine They had the same expression on their face, but different color pattern Starlight developed a disabling spinal problem I fought for 1 year trying to save her, there are no specialized vets in my area She developed eating and speaking problems, her voice became coarse One day Starlight disappeared I know what happened to her, but I don't know where she is Starshine is fine
i'm sorry koishi
i was really hoping someone else felt the same way :)
I’m calling it, this is the most underrated song-😔🤚
i agree!
That bassline is hypnotizing
it was amazing to see this song in one of my favorite movies "Wasabi".
I've never heard of that movie before.. when did it came out??
@@FuraPurble2001 with Jean Reno Incredible movie
I loved the part when he says: *Starshine! Never gonna find me*
fabdlnltc you mean tube majority of the song? lol
oh yeah that part....
I like the part with the electric keyboard sounds.
Same, bro.
I feel like when he says that it is super cracky and I just think of Damon in the sound booth singing a high pitched voice.
Pretty words, arctic friend! This is such a fitting description!
There's just something about this song that makes me calm or just less numb. I'm not sure what though
I remember when I was first introduced to the gorillaz by my cousin from Mexicali and he had this album in a cassette tape.
What a poetic way to get introduced to the band. Those must be some treasured memories of yours, huh.
Mexico
I just wanted to say that ever since i've been a kid and listened to this album when it came out in 2001, this has been my all time favourite song. I still say that Starshine is the best song ever. There's something about it, i can't explain it.
It sounds like day of the dead opening song I guess
@@vikomx9099 for me it sounds like some alien spaceship hovering on some quiet place but with a tinge of eeriness😮
For me it feels like Nostalgia: The Song
Gorillaz, Demon Days, Plastic Beach, The Now Now, they all have this thing where the best songs are by the end of the album. Starshine is my favorite song from the band as well.
I love how 2D has a kind of Janis Joplin-esque voice in this song.
take some medicine 2D, jesus christ
peppermint tea
Take some sunshine in a bag.
Take some cool shoeshine
Take THE BATH
Sad but beautiful.
How dare they advertise the Emoji Movie before the likes of Gorillaz
Angel Jolie Taylor-Wilson THE EMOJI MOVIE IS A SHAKESPEAREAN CLASSIC HOW FUCKING DARE YOU
Billy Breen wtf
The Emoji movie is the most hated movie on r/dankmemes
@Moon Flame *Sarcastic
I don’t get it lol
This song is cursed, I have listened to it a million times and I do not hate it.
Used to play this on a rainy day or when there's a beautiful sunset and the streetlights come on one by one. Imagine taking a walk listening to this.💋❤
You paint a nostaligic and oddly comforting picture 😘
SUCH A VIBE! I have a vivid memory of my childhood, in the porch of a rented house in the beach on a foggy and raining day, listening this awesome song on my disc player. For Real! What Nostalgia!
When Murdoc makes 2D sing when he's sick:
This sounds like peaceful hopelessness. Like those moments of numbness after you hit rock bottom, right before the fight mode kicks in again. One of my favorite songs from them.
In the movie wasabi this song is played when the hero seems in a point of no return near the end, before he fights again
the way gorillaz are able to transmit emotions and feelings through music is simply unique
This song has been in my psyche since I was 10 years old. This was my first most listened to CD. Everytime I play it now it's such a calming and "back to self" experience.
Clint Eastwood: Sunshine Starshine: Starshine Ear buds: LEFT SIDE
I was given this album when I was 12 or 13..I'm 34 now and this song always comes to my head in my most depressed days and I start singing it.
around 2004 I've learnt to play guitar and since then I've never stopped playing. In my early years with guitar, I started to play this "starshine" riff but I didn't what song it was or where I've heard it. For years, if I'm next to someone I always played that riff and asked if they knew what song that was. 2 weeks ago I started rewatching one of my childhood movies "Wasabi (2001)" and I heard this song again after all those years. and here I am finally reunited with my long lost favorite guitar riff.
welcome back... interesting story.. so sad no one you played it knew the song. edit: I just read about the movie and I remember watching it a long time ago, late at night in some random tv channel, the guy eating a whola lot of wasabi scene... I never knew what movie it was (never cared about looking for it though). coincidences..!
the surround sound is so amazing
The Gold Gorillaz The best Gorillaz
I love this song, its so whimsical and everytime i listen to it i feel like im just alone and isolated. I just get lost in my thoughts like im in a dream and when it ends i wake up.
the bass in this is so mesmerizing
This is one of those songs you must use headphones to get the whole effect
The strongest dose of nostalgia I get with any music is with this song and my memories of covertly obliterating my bedtime as a kid playing vanilla World of Warcraft on my laptop in bed and listening to this song and album. Shreking lvl ~30s on my lvl 60 T1/T2 Tauren druid in Stranglethorn Vale with this song specifically. Good times. "Staaaarfire never gonna gank meeeeee"
When this song randomly gets in your head so you have to listen to it again.
This song is so dark and amazing yesss :)
maybe you just need to turn the light on , dumbass
+Without Method wow..
***** wow was that hard? look it's brighter now is it, look around your room now and I bet you see carcasses of your entire family
+Without Method you really have a lot of time on your hands human 👍
I feel like this would be the perfect song for when you’re high on weed
Im stoned right now and can confirm this.
@@violettmichelle2667 Ditto, I'm high up there with the starshine myself.
Oh yes sir
Not just weed
*"That feeling you can't express"* is called _nostalgia_ 🌌
That's a nostalgic track from them. I heard in the French movie Wasabi for the first time and honestly bring the mood instantly
This song reminds me of being sick in bed.
The cracks in his voice is so cool!
2018 !! nice memories on this tape
you can like feel the intro in your brain
incredibly anxious
I love this song I think so many of us felt this hopeless feeling but then I remember Wasabi movie 💕‼️Never give up guys!
Yes!! Is that it? Is that where I've heard it? Wasabi
this song is so creepy I love it
Playing this at four in the morning in the dark is an experience. Hearing nothing but 2D's voice fill my head.
I always imagined an astronaut cut loose from his spaceship drifting into space with no one coming to save him listening to this song
cool pfp
there’s something dark in these woods, I’ve known it since I was a child. it never left, it’s merely hiding somewhere, still watching me.
This song sounds like the color blueish-purplish to me. I can't explain it and I'm sorry.
Synesthesia?? Same bro
For me it's more of a yellowy-orange but that's the cool thing about being synesthetic, it's different for everyone
Idc , the raspyness in his voice brings a beautiful yet suffering or lost type of feel in the song💯
this is so underrated oml
The base solo in the beginning its just too much I love it 😍
This song makes me think of walking through the dessert at night all alone with no to keep you company but the moon as you walk through the dark expanse dessert being the only thing for miles great song
Honestly. This era of gorillaz hit different (in a good way)
This is hauntingly beautiful
2 years ago, this song got me into Gorillaz, most happiest day of my life:)
I have a funny idea for a music video. So its midnight and 2-D cant sleep cuz of his depressive thoughts and murdoc tries to get him to sleep by playing this to 2-D like a some sort of lullaby. And 2-D starts to sing to the lullaby. Murdoc gets the idea to make this a new song so he records it. And at the end of the song 2-D finally falls asleep. Yeah its a stupid idea but i like it
So damn Good 😥
If this was playing on the right earbud, it'd trigger an asmr reaction for me. I thought one earbud died at first.
oh that purple haze is really kickin' in now
This song sounds like when you were about to do something but you forget what the thing was. so you’re just stood there thinking
i love the bass in this song so much also Damon sounds like a dying seagull in this song lol
How does this not have 1million views. Seriously
Apesar de essa música não ser a melhor desse álbum, é melancólica e relaxante, realmente esse contrabaixo é muito BOM
looking at the nocturn sky while listening to this is such an experience everyone must have
Today I lost the my aunt who inspired my relativity and was the person who understood me on a level that only my dad ever did I lost him to covid. They loved this band as much as I do I'm missing them so much.
This songs evokes a feeling of being lost at night in the middle of nowhere.
underrated
So simple so beautiful
- Что это такое? - Васаби! - Классная штука!
some people just have their way with words...
my left ear loved it :)
I think we can all agree, there is a light that turns in when this song plays. We don’t know where it is, or what it is. But ‘it’s there’
Just listen to it right ear bud. Super cool.
My left headphone is broken. :|
Fox in a Hat soz but LOL
It's just slightly quieter then
I can here it in both. Just slightly quieter in one.
Oh noooo, it's brokkennnnnn ourr lovveeee
Sqbi I was gonna say that 😂😂😂
to me its a song about the universe and time, absolutely beautiful
Such an underrated gem of a song
I always find this song stuck in my head.
This song reminds me of night driving through empty roads. Love it.
0:00 i love this song :D
man i love dis....
one of the best songs
I first heard this in the movie Wasabi when i was a kid. Great French movie about a French detective working in Japan. Its kind of hard to find.
