Watch collecting, like many other hobbies, can have its snobs who act as gatekeepers and put down newer enthusiasts. I dislike that kind of sentiment and truly believe watches are for everyone and anyone. So today, we're going to be taking a look at around 20 watches that you just can't hate, no matter how big of a watch snob you may be. These are picks that are well-known, well-respected, and all under $1,000. Let’s go.

  • To the people just getting into the hobby: Don't buy watches to impress watch snobs! Buy them to impress yourself. 😁

  • I just bought a $30 Casio World Time and I love it. Wear it more than my Zenith and Rolex.

  • You can NOT go wrong with Citizen and Seiko. Fine Japanese craftsmanship for an affordable price.

  • Teddy, I’m currently sitting in the ER having some issues with a congenital heart defect I have. This video is going to be a great distraction for 15 minutes. Love all the great work you do.

  • I'm not a collector, but I received a Tissot PR100 for father's day about 8 years ago. Still love it and still get compliments on it. It's made me a Tissot fan.

  • Really nice video! I personally love Citizen and Orient watches, and I'd like to point out that Tissot and Hamilton are both from Swatch, so... I think a nice addition could be made to the list: Mido (again, Swatch group) has a really nice line up ranging from classic, elegant style watches to rugged divers, with nice movements and good quality materials!

  • Hey Teddy. Brilliant video. So happy to see "entry" level watches getting some focus. So many YT watch channels have developed into Haute Horology Unobtanium (for most average enthusiasts) and just scare newcomers away. These kind of videos make you feel like you don't need to be a millionaire to enjoy the hobby and pick up some amazingly good value, quality watches in the process. Love the channel by the way. The 70 watch terms video was awsome too 👌

  • Thank you Teddy for being one of the most accessible channels for new watch enthusiasts. You are right. Many watch collectors want to treat the hobby like an exclusive club. They dismiss people, outright, if they have no interest or cannot afford brands above a certain price point. In an industry which is being disrupted and whose market share is being eroded by the emerging smart watch market, we cannot afford to be elitist. If history teaches us anything, an industry that is being rendered obsolete by technology can only survive if those who are part of that industry are more welcoming of newcomers.

  • Citizen Garrison/Chandler (green fabric strap) is my favourite watch. I challenge any watch to suffer how my Garrison did & survive. The watch was lost during a home re-hab project. Eventually gave up searching, moved on, bought a new Citizen eco-drive. After 1 year, to the week, raking around the garage, I found my missing watch! In a dirt pile for 12 months of rain and Wisconsin snow. I was so happy. Cleaned with a rag. Left in the sun for a day. Wearing it now, works perfect.

  • Glad to see you included Tissot :) Bought my first "proper" watch 12-13 years ago, a Tissot PRC100, granted, its not a mechanical watch, but its been with me thru thick and thin every day since up untill this year. The crown doesnt screw in properly, so its no longer watertight, and I need to get it serviced. But its a watch I dont think I could ever get rid of even if I ended up buying a something like a rolex or grand seiko

  • You really can't beat Orient. Got the Bambino 2nd gen and the kamasu and I'm overwhelmed with the quality of these watches. Looking for my next watch. Excited to see what it'll be!

  • I have been a “fangirl” my entire life, and no matter the fandom there are always gatekeepers, always people looking for fights, always people telling you that you don’t enjoy something correctly. My thinking will always be to ignore them! Read the books you like, watch the shows you love, and wear the watches you adore, enthusiastically!

  • Es grato saber más opciones de las que ya teníamos contempladas y sobre todo tener este acercamiento con precios competitivos que de seguro a más de uno lo motivará a adquirir un reloj (me incluyo). Gracias.

  • My wife just got me a Seiko SRPD-71 for Christmas. Naturally, I picked it out. It’s my first ever automatic watch. I am hooked! I’m already looking at getting more. I’m still thinking of getting a high end g-shock. I want one. Then, I’ll look at the other offerings. Thanks for all the great info. You are part of the reason why I got back into watches. Cheers.

  • T-Balls, I think many people would set the "entry level" bar a lot lower, like $300 and under. Maybe that's just me. My collection of 20 or so watches doesn't have anything over $300 in it. LOL. $1,000 is LUXURY / Grail for a lot of people

  • I was so glad to see Vostok mentioned! Back in the early days of the Internet, I got really into Russian watches, not so much because they were great or anything, but because, in the West, they were unusual. So cool to have the Cyrillic writing on the case backs and on the dials of my Vostok, Poljot, and Kremlienskie watches. I think these were the first mechanical watches I ever owned, coming on nearly 20 years ago now, so I wasn't familiar with the idea that you had to wind them up every day, lol. Prior to that all my watches were of the $25 drugstore Armitron quartz variety.

  • I'm glad you've mentioned Seiko Citizen and Tissot, 3 watches I've owned but sold on because they didn't tell the time in the way I wanted. I was taken in by first glance but very hard to read the hands against the dial. I now have a Casio Edifice which ticks all the boxes!
