During the ship launch of Scot Explorer at the Royal Rodewes shipyard in Hoogezand, The Netherlands on October 11, 2019, a line at the stern of the ship snaps. Then, the hull collided several times with the concrete quay wall. Both the paint and the quay wall were visibly damaged.

sorry to be off topic but does anyone know a way to log back into an Instagram account..? I somehow forgot my password. I would appreciate any help you can give me
@Gianni Edgar Instablaster =)
@River Killian Thanks for your reply. I found the site through google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will reply here later with my results.
@River Killian it worked and I finally got access to my account again. I'm so happy! Thanks so much you saved my ass!
God damn it, not even one minute off the lot and she's already got a scratch!
sounds like what the old would say
Ha, nothing like precrashing a new ship before delivery.
Just after a fresh coat of paint.
@Sewan & Sawen Creations zdsa
They can buff that right out.
Hard to believe there is absolutely zero padding on the opposing dock where a ship is launched!
Pathetic
agreed
I bet they put some there now lol
That's ok. Those four tires hung on the starboard side of the boat will protect it. Guaranteed. 😏
I'll bet there have been hundreds of launches from that shipyard with no damage to ships or the quay wall. Someone should have inspected the mooring ropes, as those things don't snap unless they are already damaged. That's something boat building safety department should be looking into.
Surprised those dudes under the ship knocking out the supports can move around with those massive balls
Nothing to worry about - just a birthmark! Or perhaps “berthmark.”
Good one!! Made me go OOOOh! Like Jim Mcmann on Carson.
Yes it is a" berth mark" .
Ooh that was a great reply ,are you English ?
Hahahaha. Nice. 👍🏻😆
No you didn't just say that? I'm calling the pun police.
I’m surprised they don’t have old tyres along the concrete rampart to avoid contact between the rampart and the ships hull.
But they did have tires as buffers. See the four tires on the right side of the ship? That's all that's needed. 😏

@@rocketraccoon1976 LOL!
Use lines that exceed any conceivable force by a factor of ten. And when it looks like 'enough,' add two more.
When I was a kid we had to launch my dear old aunt Lucy the same way to get her into the pool. ":-O
Did she make the same sound on launch? 😁
My ex-wife is your aunt? Small world....
That's what it looks like when Rosie O'Donnell goes to the beach.
Glad to see that the dockers are health and safety conscious making sure they are wearing there hard hats when under the ship As one wrong move from the ship could be deadly without them hard hats!!!
To much time on ur hands
Klasse Aufnahmen.
There is probably a sailors superstition about a ship being damaged when launched
usually a name change
Is that how the Titanic was launched? Meh just a scratch on the side. No problem.
@@kevinmoore4887 No, that is how it 💔💎
They have a superstition for having an itchy finger, probably
@@kevinmoore4887 no Titanic was launched stern first abdcwad absolutely fine when it left Belfast. But when you recruit a ship captain from the furthest place from the sea in and in his career he managed to wreck several ships then don't be surprised when he runs it down the side of an iceberg when not looking where he us going in an ice field. Even his statue in Beacon Park ,Lichfield, England is slowly sinking .You really could not make it up .He even severely danaged Titanic sister ship Olympic in Southampton HARBOUR! !!
Might be the first scratch it gets hitting something but it sure won't be the last. Maybe next time someone will come up with the brilliant idea of placing a half dozen yokohama fenders along the channel wall.
It seems it's luckily only the paint, it don't look like if it's got a dent. Next time they probably put old truck tires on the side of the wall to prevent something like this.
Yes..you're so right. Considering how those ships get launched sideways into a narrow concrete channel I would have thought that entire wall would have rubber cushioning. How stupid really!
makes sense... little cost involved
@@westwindsailer It is the initiation point of rust. Must be patched up soon.
Those guys knocking the supports out under the ship seems kinda sketchy also... hard hat is’nt gonna help much if that thing decides to go early...
I don't know why it always amazes me to see such Tonnage manipulated by man. I hope the scrape didn't cause any problems other than the Repairs to the wall. Cheers
I am surprised there are no rubber bumpers on the far side wall. Wonder if there are now? Still I am sure that scratch will buff right out.
My father had a saying about such things (I had to translate it from out the Dutch. It's not the most correct English. Were for my apologies The first damage is made now they don't have to worry any more who makes the first damage to this new boat
“Dad, can I take the boat out?” “Just don’t hit anything “
Och just a couple of wee scratches - a bit of T-Cut and that’ll come out.
I hate when that happens! 😁 I guess that saves that anxiety about scratching the paint on the new ship.😂🤣😅
why does it have 'scot explorer inverness' written on the hull if its made in holland?
Is that rope certified before using it?
Well atleast they got the first dent over with! !!lol
Good thing it didn’t go right out onto the street. It would have taken a lot of quarters to keep all the parking meters fed
Hahaha...I like your humor Barry.
lol
Good video and good channel I have subscribed
That ship is from Inverness, Scotland. I live here. 😍😍😍😍
So.. you must be so handsome
Thats why it gets collided on the day of launching....🤣🤣
I'm sorry - there is no amount of money you could pay me to remove the supports of a ship while standing under it... at least the new owners don't have to worry about getting the first scratch on the paint lol
You have obviously never helped build and launch a ship it is EXTREMELY REWARDING
@@snowgorilla9789 Which ships have you helped build and launch? What kind of work did you do?
Why they don't have massive tyres along the quay to cushion any contact?
You had one job Carl !!!
Looks like the whole crew had a couple of early celebratory cocktails.
Hit the sharp edge of that concrete wall, probably put a crease in it! Get out the Bondo! Yes sir ! We’ll get right on that, it’ll only be $50.000!🙀
They will have to reprime the area , so they have corrosion resistance
I'm sure the parts department will have those little bottles of touch-up paint.
This is why we can't have anything nice
lmfao stfu douud you're never gonna have a boat like that
Primed Evil. 👍 Well played
Why didn't they have bumpers on that seawall for that very reason?
You mean ‘Fenders’.
Where are this ship ???
The Netherlands I think
@@michaelfreeze2949 вы откуда ?
That'll buff right out.
As soon as you drive it off the lot.. you get a ding...
Ah. That’ll buff right out. 😂
Nice parking job 👍
They should have some large fenders on the opposite dock, Duh.
That spring line saved the day. 😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎
Dang! Back to the dry dock.
ÓTIMO TRABALHO, BRASIL OK.
First voyage, straight to the dry dock.
The term ‘Rope’ is not used on boats and ships, they are called ‘Lines’.
Or hawser
No one cares
Great camera positioning and setup. Seems to be a common practice with ship builders to build ships larger than they can ideally handle, without the cost of having to expand the facilites. Makes good viewing.
Imagine if the rope backlash hit someone on deck. They would be decapitated. As for the small dent. The new ship likely comes with a bow to stern and antenna mast to keel, one million kilometer warranty.
Just think , those things used to be built on the Clyde
Maybe one day they will be again
Not a very thought out launch system. With the kind of money involved why not have a double safety margin on the ropes and bumpers of some kind on the concrete dock.
Rob Hartshorn its the way the do it for the last 100y or so.
@@bas6983 Yep, looks like it works perfect.
Shoulda used 3 tugs & doubled those lines. That'll buff out though.
Interesting... for such a narrow channel you would think there would be some kind of shock absorbing buffers opposite the slipway? Just in case the rope breaks, lol
There were some but they were obviously way too small.
That's is a synthetic line. NO BIG DEAL. NOBODY GOT HURT. THEY ARE GOING TO REPAINT THOSE SCRATCHES ANYWAY. THEY STILL HAVE A LOT OF THINGS TO DO WITH THAT NEW SHIP.
Schon mal interessant sowas zu sehen. Darum mag ich deinen Kanal. Diese Tonnen von Gewichten die dahinter stecken. = STAUNEN
Was that bloke walking along the wall holding the rope an employee, or just a spectator? Seems remarkably incompetently organised
He played us like a damn fidle That was a complete success
you launch a ship and 10 seconds later you dent it lol
Bom dia vídeo top demais show
That dull feeling you get when you first scratch your new car. It really sucks.
A launch like Big Fitz had, when her bow hit the dock
No rubber stopper. Not good incase rope snaps. Logical it's going to hit concrete with momentum. Humans are dumb at times.
To cost, have to just do it any way you can when you're already expensive compared to developing countries
Yeah most of the time!
Camera man almost got turned into a kit kat bar.
IT’S A “LINE” (Hauser) NOT A ROPE!
Steven Rich Hi Steven, yes you’re right but it’s spelt Hawser.
Its "broken".
I Roger that. 😆
I still missed it!
oh jesus, what a video!
next time always install or place tires against the rim of the dock.
They should use Metalic-Line or Chain instead of Nylon-Line...... and should use Rubber Bellows on other side. One time expense but it can avoid the future accidents.
That crew musta been the type kids who tried to put the square peg in the round hole.
Very sad, the safety rope could not stand it( But i hope, the damage is not significant.
It was pretty obvious there was zero slack on the port line. Who knows what they were thinking, if at all.
Hey… Hey… Who put that dent in my boat. Come on… I know somebody knows who did it, who did it!! Somebody’s going to have to pay for that!!
Just ask the dealer for a discount on the purchase price.
Like a door ding the first day you drive your new car.
Never understood why you would launch a ship sideways from a shipyard, either dry dock or backward launch and within a small channel to maneuver. Dangerous if a hawser snap on that tugboat crewman.
Just keep the owner on the other side !
I am not an expert on ship launching, but shouldn't they put a few large rubber bumpers on the opposite side of the canal to protect the ship if it should happen to drift over that far. Those few tires hanging on the side were pretty ineffective.
So, concrete wall fails, then>>>>>>this,>>>>>>>HORACE! You’ve been drinking again, telling me that a giant orange and white ocean liner just comes out of nowhere and knocks you across the street!! Hrrumpp!!
Not made in Scotland.?
her is your new car sir.dont worry about the Damage!,
There is something very creepy about driving a skid loader under a raised ship. I'd much rather walk under it. That rope stretched like a rubber band before it snapped
Excellent
Best of luck to her.
It looks like maybe they put those ropes on the wrong sides of the ship? Because one rope snaps immediately and the other one is so long it lets the ship smash into the other side of the canal
Ship should have had tires strapped to the sides like tug boats!! Just kidding ;o) Somebody call the Dent Doctor. Then again, maybe it will buff out.
hope they get a discount
What the hell are they doing? Maybe they should wake up and put some protection on the wall before launching...🙄
Another candidate for Pimp My Ride.
We tr regydtyd
What kind of Mickey Mouse Run outfit is this?! A thin ass old rope, two small bumpers, and an opposing concrete barrier that has no padding on it whatsoever.
I bet they know that it’s called a line not a rope, and that they are called fenders not bumpers.
It's a beautiful ship but it's a bit worrisome how they build a multi million dollar ship then fail to launch it without damage. Is this their first?
Good thing that much to short line broke. It might have pulled the towingvessel under.
Was passiert ist
The space was not enough to land a ship of this magnitude
I was thinking the same thing. That ship was way too big to be launched in such a narrow canal.
That will buff right out
so where was the fail? you show a perfect launch from different angles??? were you hoping the rope wouldnt snap on one of the angles.
The ship crashed into the wall. You didn't see that?
If the aft tug wasn't so far starboard, the line would not have given way and there would have been no damage.
OCH AYE A SCOTTISH COMPANY,GOD BLESS ALL WHO SAIL IN HER.
Says it all scotline inverness, proud Scottish flag built up a river in Germany , while the Clyde is empty , shipyards closed , come on SNP get your act together.
I gather that the ship is built on top of the yellow blocks.
Dont they know fat a restraining line to stop that damage???
That's going to leave a mark ... oh wait, too late. :-)
A birthmark.
