Pricey townhomes and condominiums are popping up on what feels like every block. That means families who lived here for years are pushed out of their homes even faster than you might think.

  • Unfortunately this is exactly what Houston is like. I'm a 46 year old native and I've seen this over and over. People always moving into a neighborhood and changing the demographic. Sometimes it's for the better and sometimes it's for the worst but it always changes. A couple of years a specific area of town will gain popularity and then it will eventually move to another part of town 5 years later. 10 years ago it was Midtown. 5 years ago it was the Heights, Montrose and Edo. Now it's 3rd and 2nd ward. It'll change again. This happens every time we have an influx of people from other states. Most people that live downtown in the newer properties are not from Houston. That's a pretty good way to determine how many newcomers we have that decided to make Houston their new home.

    • Yes you are right. I am not sure if we can continue to handle the surge of newcomers though.

      @Shazzy1228@Shazzy12282 жыл бұрын
    • @@Shazzy1228 I agree. I believe that bc of the increased amount of newcomers we are seeing housing prices and rent soar. It's bc they didn't know the baseline price before moving here and some investors, land holders and community management companies are taking advantage. That and the added expense of construction due to shipping issues and costs are driving up prices.

    • Honestly, I don't understand why anyone who knows anything about Texas would move to Houston. I live near Austin and we don't have the crime or rampant violence that you have regularly in H-Town. Seriously, I don't even visit Houston and I live in Texas. It's one of those "no-go" zones we talk about.

    • @@DIVISIONINCISION I'm native to Houston and I agree with you. It's not easy to live here. Lately we've been having local government problems too. I lived in Conroe for years and it's a lot more quieter but I was born and raised in the Houston city limits of Harris County and it was always a problem with crime but not just that, most people wouldn't help you if you genuinely need help bc they're afraid of scammers. It's sad that the people that are honest have to suffer bc of the criminals here and bc of the local government holding those criminals responsible for their actions.

The investors sign a contract with the original land /home owners and once the high rise is built, the original owners get two or three of the finished apartments in that complex. I think ALL houses in all the counties here need to be elevated at least 4 feet, but hte problem is that most of the subdivisions and houses here are built by out of state companies at ground level that don't have a clue or even care if they can flood, or that it creates more flooding by imepeding or diverting water flow. I bought a home in Houston and own several homes and lots in Detroit. I purchased vacant lots abandoned homes. The key is for you to buy your neighborhood. I get calls all day long about buying my property in Detroit. You have to be the first to purchase the land next to you. You can't stop gentrification but you can surely buy in your own backyard. Learn about tax exemptions and tax credits,etc. Stay on top of your business and dispute your taxes.
