This is a manually constructed virtual sound environment using 3D spatial audio techniques.
When sound has been recorded as standard stereo audio, it loses all the information your brain uses to tell you where the sound is coming from. Spatial audio simulation allows us to regain a lot of this information. In this ambience, I have attempted to process, mix and position audio all around you using spatial audio technology to create a more immersive rain experience.
Believable 3D audio is achieved using HRTF filtering. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Head-re...
HRTF is a technology used to emulate spatial audio by attempting to mimic the acoustics of human hearing. It has been most widely adopted to allow games to portray accurate positional audio. It is now being used to enrich movie and music experiences via standards like Dolby Atmos.

  • After listening to this for 1 hour, falling asleep, then waking up, the room had a fresh rain smell and it felt damp in the air. Nothing had really physically changed in the room but in my mind I had been sleeping in a tent all night. When I woke up I felt like the air from that experience was now in my bedroom
