Turning a MASSIVE Dragon Egg - Epoxy Resin Art
On this episode of Ben's Worx I cast my biggest epoxy resin blank using a single deep pour resin, I then attempt to turn this massive resin cast on the lathe.

Thanks for stopping by, If you have time you can check out my new range of Eggs here www.etsy.com/shop/bensworx
i'd love that in my home
Hi Ben big fan. Can you do a hand carved Pyramid with that huge 20L ressin it would be so awesome. Thank you.
Hi Ben, What wood do you use...???
Did you brush the epoxy on the wood before your pour?
Are you related to Dataless822? your voices sound somewhat similar
Those bubbles are epicly placed almost as if they were placed there intentionally. Too freaking awesome
Thanks Mate, yeah it worked out well 👍
I thought the same thing!
No i saw imperfections
@@-Prakriti oh my fucking god you just had to open your mouth
yes those bubbles worked out nicely happy accident
You could now make a silicone mould of the finished egg, using the 10l bucket as a hard case and then you could have a mould to pour future big eggs without all the wastage. They'd just be a bit smaller after the clean up.
As narrated by Morgan Freeman: "And Ben was engulfed in the resin shavings he so diligently worked to remove and was never seen again." Great job Ben! I love watching your stuff!
😂 Thanks Jennifer 😊
Totally read that in Morgan Freemans voice.
I hate it when people mention morgan freeman... now I can't get his voice out of my head... coh.. thanks !!! lol
@@kennyboswell5967 Yep... damn it !! haha
SOOOOOO UNDER RATED I DIED LAUGHING TY I NEEDED IT AND NOW I HEAR MORGAN FREEMAN NARRATING THIS IN MY HEAD I WISH YOU A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR STAY SAFE HEALTHY AND GODS BLESSINGS ON US ALL AND HEAVENS PANTRY SET ALL OUR TABLES TOGETHER ALWAYS HAVE A BLESSED WONDERFUL DAY TODAY JENNIFER 🤣😆😂💯🙂💚👍🏻🖖🏻
That was really cool. I actually liked the bubbles coming up from the burl. It added some drama to the piece.
Thanks Jim, I think so too 😊
I know where this is going...MEGA DRAGON EGG!!!!! 🤩
I’m so happy right now. Was going to go to bed but then this appeared in my feed. I also think the air bubbles at the end make it look quite cool like water is firing out
Thanks for staying up Jack 😊
Same- and I have no regrets >:)>
It looked like you were being trapped in a slowly escalating spider web.
It felt like it too 😂
Lol I thought the same thing
The other piece can be made into a shallow plant pot that makes it look like a floating land mass with a bonsai tree at the top.
Nice idea 👍
instead of a shallow pot why not have a deep plant pot slopping down into the wood, could still do the bonsai but there's space for more plants that way
@@jayathay210 young plants will die from being in deep pots
I'm not sure how well the golf balls would turn or if resin would even make a practical material for the job, but if you could make that into a bucket that would be such a cool storage container for golf balls
Yeah that would be cool 👍
Golf balls are 90% rubber gun so any heat from turning would be very Messy , cool idea about the bucket tho
The bubbles actually work very nicely. Makes it look like a large aquatic egg
You're right about the bubbles. It added a nice little pop to the piece. 👍
Thankyou 😊
@@BensWorx you are welcome man. You always create interesting pieces.
Wow... It's gorgeous! The air bubbles definitely added to the piece, it's amazing!
Thankyou 😊
It also looks like a night time aerial winter scene of snow, trees and roads.
A casting that size had me stressing out! Well done. Looks great.
Thanks Mate
Me going about my day Ben: would you like an egg in these trying times?
I honestly have no idea how I found this channel as I have never really even heard of resin casting ... but I am sure glad I did this is a beautiful art form and you are incredibly talented
Thanks Natasha 😊
As a newer member to your channel, I'm enjoying going back to watch your older videos. I don't know how I found you but I really love your stuff! This egg looked like it was otherworldly! The bubbles were excellent features.
Thanks Lynnie, I appreciate your support 😊
That is a HUGE egg!!! Awesome!!! Edit: Maybe make a giant golf tee out of the golf ball pour, and maybe something decorative with the larger blank? 🤷🏻♀️
I like the bubbles trapped in the end result, they look cool
the bubbles made it even cooler, I think it looks like the ocean, plus the bugs inside that's even better
I like the air bubbles
Yes in that piece the bubbles probably improve it, a "happy little accident" as a wise man once said.
Definitely 👍
Ooh, I've been excited for this! It's almost half past one in the morning, but this is worth staying up for. 😄
Thankyou, I appreciate your support 😊
Awesome. The bubbles give a little something extra to the overall look and I really love the blue color.👍👍
I'm curious how long it took you to clean up the resin shavings, that looks like it was quite the job itself!
Bubbles make the burl look more like a landscape. Beautiful work.
Awesome. Can’t wait to see what you do with the larger piece!
Loved this project. Pushing the limits of the medium is always cool, and the finish work is outstanding. Awesome piece!
that is gorgeous!! I love the bubbles it gives it an undersea feel.
Thankyou
Love the clarity of your new resin. The bubbles were, as Bob Ross would say, “Happy little accidents” Beautiful piece. Golf balls....lamp shade? The big 20 kg ... cut into smaller sections and make table lamps with LED light strips! Look forward to seeing your videos every week. And your commentary is the best!
I need to go to sleep, but I can't stop watching your videos
Absolutely beautiful especially with the bubbles, they add to the piece instead of detracting from the look. I love it.
I like the air trapped in it. It reminds me of the water globe.
Thanks Brian
Wow, that is spectacular. The result is so much better than I could have imagined.
Love the bubbles in it. Gives it an understatement feel.
I agree. The bubbles did add a bit of interest to the piece. Well done! On the big one, maybe carve out the top and make a lighted planter?
Thanks Patrick, great idea
Ben, great work. I could look at it for hours. Its 'imperfections' even made it prettier... Its landscape is soo unworldly like looking in another planet
I think this is my favourite egg that I've seen you make, and yes, the bubbles and bugs are just added bonuses!
I think the big egg turned out nice, it was beautiful. I really like the effects the bubbles added to the piece. I think it would of turn out nice as a sphere too. LOL always bugs, darn little things. What ever you decide to do with that massive one, just don't drop it. It could crush a toe, or break a foot. What ever you decide I am sure it will be beautiful in the end. Till your next one Ben!!
As always, great work! I kind of like the bubbles that formed inside!
Thanks Mate me too 😊
Now that's what I call epic. It's such a stunning piece - I especially love how the bubbles are captured, gives it an even better effect, just like you intentionally put them there.💜
The water bubble was looking like Micky. And yes underwater feel too. I would suggest a sphere from ball cast. And do something handcrafted in that other resin cast. This was awesome 👏🏻 loved it.
I feel like the bubbles add to the piece. Gives it an extra dimension.
I love this one I Love the bubbles coming out of the burl. TAKE MY MONEY!!!
Thanks Mate 😊
That looks amazing. I love the bubbles they add a feeling of exploding air pockets off the bottom of the ocean floor.
I love it with the bubbles. They look so good
It looks like bubbles that are coming up from the sea floor!! Love it
I actually like the few bubbles that seem to be arising from the wood of the egg! Well done!
It looks like your looking into space. The bubbles are stars. Great job!!
The colors you used and the air bubbles locations make it look like the ocean floor and underwater air vents on the sea bed. Absolutely incredible!
The bubbles are actually gorgeous in there! Stunning piece!
Stunning. I like the bubbles and bugs too.
My son has just received my 50 th birthday present, its stunning i love it. Thank you x
The bubbles looks like snow. It's beautiful
Those blues look amazing. Love how it turned out. Keep up the good work.
I Loved the bubbles in it. What a Great end result 👏🏻
Thanks Connie 😊
The bubbles definitely added to the underwater look and the bugs was a nice touch too lol.
The bubbles really help make the piece. With the burl painted like that looks like a snapshot from scuba diving.
It's so satisfying watching you carve that!
Would you ever make a compilation video of you polishing resin? I find it very relaxing and satisfying to watch! c:
As always, excellent video. I love how clear that cup of resin came out!
That is a beautiful piece of art. Love it
I actually really liked the bubbles at the end, made it look really cool.
this is immensely beautiful! my eyes are blessed!
Looks like some blue volcanic dimension. The air bubbles are kind of like small eruptions happening in the dimension.
Ice volcano
@@neonxeno2 Exactly
love the egg, it looks like a underwater scene, with the air bubbles and all.
Wow!!!! Awesome job mate
Thankyou 😊
That's cool how the bubbles are stacked on top of each other. Turned out nice!!
Watching your videos always cheers me up. Awesome project!!
Now THAT was one massive burl! And oh my goodness, could Nicole find you under all those resin shavings, or did she need a search party!?? 😱 What a beautifully clear cast. Love your egg.
Wow truly amazing piece. Its gorgeous.
Turned out fantastic love the bubble effects 👍
Oh LORD that's a chunky amount of resin. I love how adventurous you are with trying new things! Really appreciate the great showing of the creative process!
The bubbles looked as if they were supposed to be there, nice work. I would very much enjoy seeing what you could carve the big piece into.
WOW! I love the colors you chose for the huge one! I'm a purple fan 😉 Starry night is my favorite! GORGEOUS finished piece!
I winced when I saw you standing so close the vacuum pot! "Step back, it could blow" ran thru my mind. Sorry for the reminder but......whew!
The bubbles look really cool. It looks kinda like looking at an egg plucked directly from the bottom of a lake or stream.
It would also make a crazy log stump if you carved it with bark texture
This is STUNNINGLY BEAUTIFUL!!!
Unreal!!! So beautiful
I'm watching now😁 Bigger is better 😋
Thanks Jeanette 😊
@@BensWorx ummmm you're welcome LoL 😆😆
Once again what am amazing piece of art that belongs in a gallery for sure.
Love it Yes the bubbles look fantastic in it
That is awesome. Definitely a big egg. Great job Ben.
Just found this and love it! That is really amazing! The bubbles that are coming up inside actually look really cool!
With those bubbles, it definitely looks like an ocean floor that is venting. Epic piece, Ben!
Great experiment video. Everything turned out well. The bubbles added a little flare. I would love seeing your hand carving skills on the big piece
Thanks for sharing the link man. This project is so cool.
Amazing work Ben!!
Absolutely beautiful and I loved the air bubbles too. 👍💙

I BELIEVE It will stay on and also, the bubbles look like stars in a galaxy far, far away!
