Apple FineWoven iPhone 15/iPhone 15 Pro Case Review - $60 For This?
So I was pre-ordering the iPhone 15's today and saw that you can get the new FineWoven already. So I did a mad dash to my local Apple store and bought a bunch. I'll be honest with you, these FineWoven cases are a disappointment.

This confirms my first thoughts when I watched the event. While it’s cool Apple is making strides to be more environmentally friendly, this seems/looks less premium and therefore should cost less. I was willing to pay $60 for the leather case because I knew that it will be the only case I need for the life of the phone.
It's a scam, it's not environmental friendly if it's not durable and make you replace more frequently => more waste

If they were making strides to become more environmentally friendly they wouldn’t release a new product every year that’s practically the same as the last one! I like their products myself I have the 14 pro and an iPad Air 4 but their are taking the piss this year tbh plus the shilling from the usual KZhead content creators channels is no surprise!
So it prpoabbly costs the same to make. It just sucks cause a lot of green things do and cost more
I was done when they mentioned it was suede-like. Even real suede is quite difficult to maintain because it scratches easily and picks up dirt like crazy. So I can only imagine these won’t do any better.
Leather is also a poor choice for a phone protector. What kind of armor is it that’s softer than your own skin? The next Biggedy Big iPhone is made of titanium. TITANIUM.

Usually when they say it's "eco friendly" or "made from recycled materials" it's a nicer way of saying they're literally made out of trash. Problem is,they save a lot of manufacturing cost by "being eco friendly" but they still sell it as expensive as the more quality ones used to be. 10$ case with 50$ profit. If this is what being eco friendly mean,I'll gladly pass and get an aftermarket real leather one because i'm not about to "save the environment" with my own money for others to make huge profit by selling me trash

it’s so ironic to me how apple can produce such premium feeling phones but make cases that are so incredibly low quality. i would’ve been buying consistently from them since i actually love how the cases look but they always feel like they’re gonna fall apart after 3 months.

Can confirm. I’ve never had an Apple case last more than 1 year. The thin part of the case between the lightning port and the home button is where my iPhone 5C’s two silicone cases snapped and where my iPhone SE1’s leather case snapped. My iPhone XR’s clear case started cracking just weeks in without ever dropping it (not to mention permanently tarnishing the back glass), and the iPhone 11 silicone case I put on it eventually started peeling. The only official Apple case that’s held up so far is my iPhone XR’s battery case, but since that’s also silicone, I doubt it’ll make it past 1 year, let alone to the end of my XR’s run unless I continue to save it for vacations only. Otterbox has fared a bit better. My iPod Touch 5’s Defender is still holding up after 8 years, and my XR’s Symmetry is still holding up after almost 4 years. My Apple Watch 4’s otterbox Exo Edge did fail after 3 years, but that was after subjecting it to daily abuse in a warehousing job, justifying getting the same case as a replacement. I do hugely agree that Apple’s cases aren’t remotely the same quality of the phones themselves, and they make the phones feel less-premium. The Apple cases I personally had were always gotten on sale at Best Buy, but would never have bothered with them at full price. Those Apple case sales at retailers are fewer and further between these days, making them an even less attractive option than they already were
Great video as always! In Australia, we are not being charged the same for these cases but rather MORE. The leather was $89, now this finewoven stuff is $99.

That's the AUD dropping against the USD - all Apple products will become more expensive in Australia this year. It does go the other way too, like in the UK where the GBP has strengthened.

it's been nice seeing how much you've leveled up your video production and editing from your earlier videos back in 2017 (I've been a long time subscriber). When it comes to accessories you're the top guy I trust. For the FineWoven, I haven't seen a single positive review. I was looking forward to it being a good case but I guess I'll have to go Apple's Silicone again (I like the handling and there are zero issues with MagSafe).

Silicone feels cheap too, can’t notice any difference comparing to an Ali express 3$ replica
@@Dinatale456 I’ve never compared to Ali express but I can get 1 year of use out of an apple silicone and it looks like new.
Clear TPU cases for me. They discolor after a year or so but are super cheap, incredibly durable and actually show the phone’s colour off.

I agree with what a lot of other viewers are saying. Its all great and cool that they are trying to be more environmentally friendly, but at the end of the day we want stuff that holds up. All this recycled stuff at the same price as their "high end" stuff is a bit absurd.
Not making excuses but recycled stuff is generally a more expensive material to work with because of the cost in actually breaking it down into an acceptable material to reuse in the first place. I also got a finewoven to try when my 15 Pro gets in but I'll wait to make judgement until I'm actually using it in my day to day. Unlike a lot of folks seem to be saying, I actually quite like how the case feels initially. Only time will tell though.

I got mine yesterday. The feel of the back is nice, but overall it still feels cheaper than the old leather cases. Time will tell if it holds up, but it’s not really helping the environment much if I have to go through 3 or 4 cases over the life of the phone instead of 1.

Glad I went with my gut, and your reviews, and went with the Mous Limitless 5.0 case for my iPhone 15. Really liking the look and feel of that case; just need a phone to put in it now.

I am upgrading from an 11 Pro to the 15 Pro and I was quite disappointed about Apple discontinuing its leather cases. Those were my favourite on my 11 Pro and when I saw these Fine Woven cases are made out of recycled materials, I thought they will be a little bit cheaper... I was wrong 😅

You cannot beat the durability of genuine leather. I have a leather belt I’ve been wearing every day for over 25 years. Hell it’ll probably outlive me. Moral of the story: Whatever apple creates and/or brands; it will sell.

I don’t know why they would stop making leather cases, one of the best things about iphones was leather accessories and how they patina. Plus they look good, feel good and I think no synthetic material could replace it nor feel the same. It’s really a shame.

Frustrating thing about the old leather cases are cows aren't killed for leather, they are killed for beef and leather is just nice bonus. Bring back the real leather. This is just cheap. Stop the virtue signaling tim. Maybe instead pay your Chinese and Indonesian child workers a living wage. Or maybe stop having child workers.

I LOOOVVVVED the leather cases! I’ve had several for every model I’ve owned since those cases were introduced. I went ahead and ordered a FineWoven in black to check out but I can tell I’m going to be disappointed. So I also ordered and Andar leather case for the 15P

Monty looks spiffy! I like the leather case, slips into pockets easily and is more durable than the silicone case. The new woven case seems awful.
probably the worst of all, you don't get the benefit of silicon whereas been as durable, and it cost as much as leather cases. I hate when they are doing that, it just greenwashing, in the end I really believe that it's just that leather was too durable for them, they want you to buy more of they shitty woven that can't aged really well
@@adarion2994it’s not greenwashing. Read any proper study on the matter. You need a lot of farmland for the fodder (rainforests are burned down for that - you could also use normal agricultural land to do carbon capture storage (pyrolysis) instead), a lot of methane is produced (which is more harmful than carbon dioxide that’s why it’s not a zero sum game), you emit a ton of chemicals into the environment that kill off biodiversity (tannins, coloring, hormones for the cattle, pesticides on the fields) and on top of that comes huge energy & logistics demands. It’s literally one of the worst products ever - especially in a phone case (it’s not a bag that is used for decades - that’s the time frame at which the results start to change). It’s just mind boggling how many people are obviously not able to read proper scientific journals on such subjects and get brainwashed by lobbyism…
@@Chris1111116 Leather isn't like mink coats in which the animal was just raised for skin. Until you convince the majority to go from carnivore/omnivore to vegan, you're always going to be producing leather. Even dairy cows turn to leather. That's greenwashing to pretend otherwise.
Now that Apple is gone away with leather I'm sticking to Andar Aspen cases. Would love to hear your opinion on them.
I bought Apple leather cases for both the 13 and 14. Both were complete garbage, painted leather junk. Andar Aspen FTW. That’s the case that Apple should have been selling themselves.

Unfortunately some people (like me) can’t stand touching and especially holding (silicone) rubber. I literally makes me nauseous.

I did regret it when I dropped my iPhone 13 with the Apple silicone case. The corner of the silicone case split and the phone got a nasty scratch. So I upgraded to the leather one and that one worked fine. I was hoping to get a leather one for my 15 but they stopped making them. Got one delivered from Nomad today and fingers crossed it will be okay. But I really wish Apple could drop their cost-cutting environmental bs and sell the proper leather ones.
I think that instead of just ripping them off you should expose them to water and dirt to see how they hold up. Looks like they would not handle it very well.

It's sad how accurate your statement probably is. Leather likely was not making them nearly the profits they can make on this trash "fine woven".
Terrible decision on Apple's part. I also find it ironic that they took something that is 100% biodegradable (leather) to something that is filled with plastics and isn't. Guess I'll be buying my leather elsewhere.
But Nut Zero 2030 and all that! Apple made it sound like cows are killed to make iPhone cases. Cows are killed for food, and the other parts of the cow that are non-edible become other products. Fewer cows won’t be killed because Apple decided not to use leather.
Because it is not really about the environment. It is purely to appease the liberal buyers.

How is leather 100% recyclable? That’s just blatantly wrong… Not to mention that it’s worse for the climate and biodiversity (which is the main reason they did that - they want to be carbon neutral 2030). If someone has a sweet spot for animals it also comes with a lot of animal cruelty. My last leather case I bought (iPhone 7 plus) was tearing apart after 6 months. I bought a second one and it lasted 8 months. After that I just bought mous cases and never had any issues for multiple years (giving the phones away to other people that still used them as well as the case) whether it be carbon fibre or walnut. Leather is just not a great product for such a highly used device.

I’ve had my iPhone 14 pro Andar leather case and it’s awesome. Looks clean, and has that nice leather feel, and I got it for only $50 bucks on sale.

I've got a quad lock case so I can mount the phone in my car and on my motorbike. Swear by them for protection too as my iPhone 14 Pro flew out of my pocket at about 70-80mph (forgot to put it on the mount) whilst riding my bike and after managing to find the phone using my apple watch, it was just sitting on the hard shoulder of a motorway - while the case was scratched up beyond belief the phone was 100% fine. Even the screen protector didn't break. Crazy. Absolute miracle case, wasn't expecting that level of protection - I used to go with Mous and while they might offer more protection I'm more than happy with the quad lock after that experience.
