In all my playthroughs, I never connected the dialogue you hear right before the Dervla fight to be from Dervla herself, rather I thought it was the child saying this. This is augmented by the fact that all of Dervla’s sounds she makes when injured in the first phase of the fight sound deeper than the initial dialogue. Moreover, at the end of the initial fight, the subsequent cutscene has the child screaming as it posses Dervla’s corpse and the sounds the child makes sound more similar to the initial dialogue.
Dervla is such a cool design. Her story is great too but i wish we got just a bit more about her. Like how she became a dark crusader or her early life
The armor set from her remembrance is LEGIT.
Nice to see a boss that actually makes us a bad person for killing. The boss was just defending it's friend who in turn was keeping Mournestead safe from the Putrid Mother. Also I think it was the kid talking before the boss battle at 28:18, not Dervla, which is why the talking stops when Dervla puts a hand on his shoulder.

It's just a theory, but I think taht the boy may be an experiment of Molhu, like Pieta. After all, Molhu has been trying to creat th" perfect vessel" for a long time, but the boy was a "failled experiement" and was discarded.
I mean, it's possible, but I don't think it has to do with Molhu since the boys' power is that he blocks the presence of Umbral, which I don't think Molhu would ever want since that contradicts his aim to severe the veil between Umbral and Axiom. Even if Molhu had a hand and didn’t intend for the boy to have this power, he would have just killed him and his parents rather than letting him go and his parents wouldn't be alive in the first place because Molhu is known to kill parents of the children he kidnaps to experiment on simply because he has no use for them, such as Pieta who was a succes and still killed her mother

@@nomad15067 yeah me too, however if there is DLC or new questlines I can imagine them adding more detail to the boys backstory especially if it's more Umbral related. Maybe by focusing on a new character related to him or just expanding his role for like new endings or something. Just speculation

Also Lothric and Lorian vibes, like the intro is almost a one to one replica of the intro cutscene of Lothric and Lorian's boss fight
She looks like combination of Malenia and Artorias.
I really love the nod though, to both. The connection to Guts and Artorias, who are also battling against a ghost world/abyss entity and the Lothric and Lorian connection driving home the whole bond/promise thing and the struggle against the status quo. I feel like the devs deliberately represented those, to make you see Devla's intent and role in their game. People will say it's just a blatant copy, but don't forget Artorias was the original Guts ripoff made by Miyazaki himself :D
Now we can better empathize with Issac and Harkyn
Shes also the hardest boss I've fought in a game in a little while. Ng+ had me on the verge of tears

Great stuff mate, keep it coming :) Played through the game 4 times already (one in NG+) and lore video's like this make the experience even better.
My only criticism is that some of the areas of the game are quite dark, so it may be worthwhile to get some footage of especially dark areas with the brightness settings turned up in game. When you were going over the appearance of the cistern near the first quarter of the video, the footage is so dark you cant really see whats going on in the video.

The umbral really reminds me of the legacy of kain and the elder god. It’s an older game, ps1 days but the main character raziel can phase into the spectral realm by dying. Even the putrid mother kinda looks like the elder god. Not taking anything from the game at all, really enjoying everything so far.

@@PaulAtreidees The voice is feminine and doesn't match the screams the boy lets out in the phase transition.

The Sundered Monarch is King Bramis, the Tortured Prisoner's questline reveals a lot about him

Wait so the corruption that eroded the Hallowed Sentinels was the Putrid Mother and NOT the Rune of Adyr/Rhogar energies??
The organization as a whole succumbed to Rhogar energies, but those tasked with defending the Nohuta Shrine in Revelation Depths might have been twisted by the Putrid Mother
@@TheLorebrarians I still feel it was a chain reaction feeding of each other. Do we know what came first? The Rhogar corruption of the Hallowed Sentinels or the corruption of the populous after digging into the revelation depths? The Umbral corruption/culture is deeply rooted in Mournstead and my interpretation was, that ultimately Adyr's corruption and influence (and resurgence) was sparked by the growing influence of Umbral in a way. This also mirrors somehow with Harkyn and the Rune of Adyr. A human sustained for more than a millenia by Umbral bringing back Adyr to Mournstead/Judge Cleric.

This was great as she's one character I was very interested in. One correction tho, I'm pretty sure the one talking in the cutscene is the child. The voice is too child-like to be Dervla.
