  • Another great example of those underdog figures is Jonny Kulow for ASU, went from a 20 and 44 second 50/100 freestyler to a 18.7/41.4 in jusy his sophomore, and has become of the most consistent relay swimmers in the entire NCAA, splitting 17.9 and so many 40 points like clockwork. I love it when underdogs and undiscovered talent make it to the right environment and explode like that.

    • And he was clutch anchoring the relays

  • Who I thought you were going to say when it comes to the underdog story is Brian Benzing of Towson. In high school, he was around a 59-1:00 in the 100 breast and got recruited to go to Towson and redshirted his freshman year. Then, he kept dropping and eventually he dropped a total of 9 seconds to reach the A final of NCAAs and then got 2nd at finals. He was the most impressive performance in my opinion.

    • 100% That doesn’t happen by accident. It requires self-belief to step up on the blocks and seize the moment on the big stage.

  • My favorite success story culminating into this year is Tanner Filion. Went from being a 53.3 100 backstroke out of high school, improving rapidly in college, dropping from 51 to 46 in the 1back after the Covid year, taking their 5th year at ND, and then finaling in the 2back at NCAA D1 Championships, it goes to show that successful athletes can bloom in the right places with the right coaching.

  • What are your thoughts on the Peaty 57.94? How do you think he'll perform in Paris later in the year and do you think he can get even faster than this time? Love the videos and always make sure to catch them as soon as possible!

  • I was at the meet with the Cal contingent. Spent one session with with the IU fans wearing an IU Swim-Dive shirt to honor my friend Ray. That Towson Kid has certainly been hitting the weight room and it was good to see his happiness and joy after his 2nd place finish. That 100 BR by Liam Bell was nails. Thanks for the new vid.

  • Rowdy has been absolutely great as a commentator, he will be hard to replace when he decides to hang up the mic. However, my vote goes to Cody as his successor. I think that you would be phenomenal!

  • Great swims in so many races, but I can't get past 4:02. That's just unfathomable. Perhaps not quite as huge as his 400IM last year, but 4:06 seemed to be "the barrier." And to just blow past it, past 4:05,04,03...wow.

  • Another similar case that really showed this for me was Andrew Wilson. I think his 100 breast was only like a 59 mid coming out of high school, but I remember thinking how nuts it was when he ripped a 50.9 at the D3 championships.
