@@dr.ludwig8189 The Shenandoah is a pretty popular choice among people who can't grow a decent moustache, usually due to scarring or patchy growth. LevelCap has a chinstrap, though, which is never a good choice. Might as well shave that shit off if you're not going to grow a real beard.

you can save your character btw. I haven't checked where the XML is saved in our user folder, but even if CIG doesn't implement character persistence across patch (spoiler, they mentioned they are), we can still manually copy-paste our character files.

Yeah... You can't help but be cynical with this game. What always puzzles me is the HUGE amounts of time being spent on cosmetic stuff, which usually comes AFTER the game's release. Because releasing the game in a playable format, with actual content SHOULD be the number one priority... But hey! We're dealing with an intense dude (Christ Roberts) who, according to legend, argued with a developer about changing the colour of a SINGLE pixel! So yeah, based off that (assuming it's even true) I suspect feature creep will still continue for a while...

It's still just Stanton, the ai still doesn't work, the amount of jank and bugs are still off the chart, performance is still abysmal the limits or success of server meshing and replication layer are still very far from a sure thing one cluster of four one hundred player shards is not impressive its not even half of a rust lobby also the meshing test had performance issues that bordered on unplaybale.

You have to combine a few together to beat SC on some metrics - and some metrics you can combine ALL the other space games and they dont equal SC.. number of people who watch gameplay streams, for example. Any given hour of any given day it will take ALL the other space games combined and they Still dont equal SC

One thing I didn't see you mention (that may not have made it into the PTU, i only saw the leaks haven't played the ptu) is that planets have new super long range LOD's so that you can see all the planets from anywhere in the system. No more entire planets popping in.

Regarding the new map missing some places. At CitCon last year, they did show that at some locations you'd have to download the full map from a terminal. It could be that some places are missing maps as a preparation to that functionality, but it hasn't been fully implemented yet. When we get it tho, it's supposed to be a part of the exploration gameplay.

Especially the easy travel and not getting confused part is a great improvement. one of the problems i had with the game is finding the correct travel spot and able to pinpoint it on the map to travel lets see maybe this will help getting me try the game again

I can never seem to get the beard color to change. What's the trick to that? I select Facial Hair and mess with the colors but nothing changes.

there's 3 color selectors for hair color at the top of the section. my the eyelashes seem to always be black which kinda throws me off cuz mine arent.

I am pretty hyped tbh I am for sure gunna dump some hours checking stuff out, I hope distros make it and soon server meshing because now its getting more than anything. I would love pyro and 60 fps, I know you can get 60 fps like in dead of space and some other places in current patch but its always mostly 30 fps or below depending on the server pop but man the EVA looks so much better entering ship I remember on C2 eva back on that thing is sometimes a nightmare lol

As far as the saving the character thing, it’s already in the eptu, it’s those buttons at the bottom of the selection windows, along with undo and redo buttons. I somehow missed them the first time, a buddy had to point them out to me

I keep hearing that NPC behavior is limited by server load or whatever, but I don't think I've ever seen an example of what they look like when the server isn't overloaded. At this point I kinda assume the NPC AI just isn't working very well and they're blaming it on the server load.

I've been lucky enough to face them on a low stress server before, only 2 bunkers before the Sfps dropped again, but they are very good and reactive. I got shot and had to take cover to medpen, and it felt like they reacted to that and bum rushed me with 2 guys to get me, killing me. In the 1st bunker though, they took cover, moved well, and kept me on my toes. This was a while ago now though

There's a few videos on Reddit. The ai is balanced for lag so when you get smooth ai it makes bunker missions almost impossible solo. But yeah CIG has a LOT of work to do on this front, it's very bad for every npc in the game

I've seen them in action on fresh servers and they actually behaved quite impressive. This was a while ago, and since then I've just assumed that they will get fixed once the servers are meshed and not so stressed out.

Interesting. They need to add more because competition is popping up in all sorts which is hard to deny. I think the ship repair g and modules is great. There was a great game but closed called Hellion. It was fantastic as little parts changing for power and repair etc but it was short lived.

I think it's already ready for Wave 2 testing next week. It's definitely a little too laggy but setting DLSS to "Quality" lets me get better FPS than I'm currently getting in Live (at 4K, my 3080 gets about 40fps in Live and I was hitting 60fps with DLSS in 3.23). The lag is more in elevator response time, etc. which I think could be solved by keeping the replication server running all the time. I'm so excited for the 3.23.x patches! This is a great ".0" patch and the EVA and Maps app are especially just jaw droppingly good.

Also, no, QT wasn't actually improved. The QT rework was never planned for 3.23, which is why it wasn't covered on any of the shows or in the patchnotes. It's just that the new map doesn't EXACERBATE QT issues.

There are kiosks to download the minimaps to certain locations. That way you either discover the area or download its map. The minimap works on a new FrontEnd system.

Wait, we can mark things on the map now? Is it multiple points, or is it just one marker that we can put down to find a route to? Because I'd love to be able to mark locations of hidden mines and then sell that info to people in the verse - and yes, they could go there themselves, but it takes time, so selling that information is a viable business in the verse.

Been saying for years now that when RSI goes to the effort to fix all the bugs, they already have a damn good game on their hands. Biggest worry I have is they will never actually fix the bugs, just add features forever. Have an Aurora I bought back in 2014 with SQ42 access included, which is what I actually want to play. The PU is meaningless to me until it stops being a buggy mess.

Love the map. Love the new eva. Hate both the master modes implementation and the arcade-feel UI (single player ick is strong). I can't believe you're stuck at SCM speed while the QD spools up. They should make speed ramp up over time, proportionate to % of QD spool amount. This gives escapees a chance without making escape guaranteed.

1:15 The ability to locally export and import has been in the character creator since the very first ETF implementation without incident. There's no reason to hedge your bets. It's definitely going to be in 3.23.0. 🤷🏿♂️ Edit: Reflecting on the fact that you didn't show b-roll of this, I wonder if you just didn't know it's already in. It's the floppy disk icon.

I think there is an argument here that the more SC tries to simplify and automate (like the suggestion to automate elevator options so you don't have to pick the hangar) the further SC will get from being a SIM and becoming more of a mainstream game. I like that I actually need to press the right button. I kind of feel this way about the ability to set waypoints in cities.. It becomes less of a sim if the need to read the signs in a city for directions goes away. For new players it is great. As a current player, I don't think I will ever use it. Most players remember the pain of being lost in Lorville. There is value in the pain. You learn your environment the same way you would in real life. The more that automation makes it where a player doesn't have to think that much, the less of a sim it becomes. There are probably holes in this idea but worth exploring.

I am pretty hyped tbh I am for sure gunna dump some hours checking stuff out, I hope distros make it and soon server meshing because now its getting more than anything. I would love pyro and 60 fps, I know you can get 60 fps like in dead of space and some other places in current patch but its always mostly 30 fps or below depending on the server pop but man the EVA looks so much better entering ship I remember on C2 eva back on that thing is sometimes a nightmare lol
Thank you thank you thank you... I have been reading and viewing many reviews of the new patch and most have been negative. As if the patch was going to start with little or no problems. We are test monkeys and I will live and die as a citizen. You my dear friend have placed a smile on my face. 😊

As far as the saving the character thing, it’s already in the eptu, it’s those buttons at the bottom of the selection windows, along with undo and redo buttons. I somehow missed them the first time, a buddy had to point them out to me
I keep hearing that NPC behavior is limited by server load or whatever, but I don't think I've ever seen an example of what they look like when the server isn't overloaded. At this point I kinda assume the NPC AI just isn't working very well and they're blaming it on the server load.
I've been lucky enough to face them on a low stress server before, only 2 bunkers before the Sfps dropped again, but they are very good and reactive. I got shot and had to take cover to medpen, and it felt like they reacted to that and bum rushed me with 2 guys to get me, killing me. In the 1st bunker though, they took cover, moved well, and kept me on my toes. This was a while ago now though
There's a few videos on Reddit. The ai is balanced for lag so when you get smooth ai it makes bunker missions almost impossible solo. But yeah CIG has a LOT of work to do on this front, it's very bad for every npc in the game

The devs said server load isn't the only problem why Ai don't work properly. They're not fixing them because it's useless to fix them when server meshing isn't out
I've seen them in action on fresh servers and they actually behaved quite impressive. This was a while ago, and since then I've just assumed that they will get fixed once the servers are meshed and not so stressed out.
Man i really hope there will eventually be some sort of trucking in the game. Seeing those new outposts.... i am drooling over the possibilities

Lots of nice improvements that will definitively enhance the experience. However, the recent server meshing test is the most exciting thing happening in SC right now
Interesting. They need to add more because competition is popping up in all sorts which is hard to deny. I think the ship repair g and modules is great. There was a great game but closed called Hellion. It was fantastic as little parts changing for power and repair etc but it was short lived.
Distro Centers do have interiors that was just a bug with an object container, the interiors are incredibly massive as well.
There are interior areas in distribution centers. Just that door is broken. You can walk in and open some boxes and sometimes got killed by them. lol
Seeing the video, many things are clunky, glad we have the video to undestand what is clunky and why, because some things i don't get at first how can be clunky or what you was telling that is not good

There's a point where games stop feeling "gamey", and I believe Star Citizen has reached that point. I think this is why I prefer Starfield over this, but it all comes down to personal preference though of course.
Do the elevators still open to the void or have they fixed that? I log on a couple times a year and that glitch has been there every time thus far.
"Go to your ship hangar" makes no sense in the elevator

Question: how the ship UI affects the FPS now? last time if i'm correct they use Java for the ship UI, so when UI turn on FPS get hit lot

I bought this game years ago, and I couldn't play it well because my PC wasn't powerful enough, still isn't but I'm impressed with how far its come!
I think it's already ready for Wave 2 testing next week. It's definitely a little too laggy but setting DLSS to "Quality" lets me get better FPS than I'm currently getting in Live (at 4K, my 3080 gets about 40fps in Live and I was hitting 60fps with DLSS in 3.23). The lag is more in elevator response time, etc. which I think could be solved by keeping the replication server running all the time. I'm so excited for the 3.23.x patches! This is a great ".0" patch and the EVA and Maps app are especially just jaw droppingly good.
really dlss fsr and tsr all make absolutly no diffrence in performance for me atm, thought it wasnt even activating...
It would be nice to have some presets for doors like on real ships, a more open preset for peaceful times and all closed setting for battle.

Also, no, QT wasn't actually improved. The QT rework was never planned for 3.23, which is why it wasn't covered on any of the shows or in the patchnotes. It's just that the new map doesn't EXACERBATE QT issues.

There are kiosks to download the minimaps to certain locations. That way you either discover the area or download its map. The minimap works on a new FrontEnd system.
I haven't played since December 2023, I'll have to hop back in. Been waiting for create a character new stuff.

Wait, we can mark things on the map now? Is it multiple points, or is it just one marker that we can put down to find a route to? Because I'd love to be able to mark locations of hidden mines and then sell that info to people in the verse - and yes, they could go there themselves, but it takes time, so selling that information is a viable business in the verse.

Been saying for years now that when RSI goes to the effort to fix all the bugs, they already have a damn good game on their hands. Biggest worry I have is they will never actually fix the bugs, just add features forever. Have an Aurora I bought back in 2014 with SQ42 access included, which is what I actually want to play. The PU is meaningless to me until it stops being a buggy mess.
Love the map. Love the new eva. Hate both the master modes implementation and the arcade-feel UI (single player ick is strong). I can't believe you're stuck at SCM speed while the QD spools up. They should make speed ramp up over time, proportionate to % of QD spool amount. This gives escapees a chance without making escape guaranteed.
In some area, the minimap doesn't work indeed. You need to download the minimap data from a local terminal in the area.

I feel traveling is clunkier now than before not easier, the map and big jumps are pretty easy but planets/moons needs work.
1:15 The ability to locally export and import has been in the character creator since the very first ETF implementation without incident. There's no reason to hedge your bets. Yeah there ramping up for a full console release now. Pu and squadron 42. 😂😂😂😂 all of you can deny it but it’s seems odd there starting to make things more streamlined (which is usually done to help with controller mappings)
3.23 is exciting. Although we will not see all features at once, it will be a milestone.

I think there is an argument here that the more SC tries to simplify and automate (like the suggestion to automate elevator options so you don't have to pick the hangar) the further SC will get from being a SIM and becoming more of a mainstream game. I like that I actually need to press the right button. I kind of feel this way about the ability to set waypoints in cities.. It becomes less of a sim if the need to read the signs in a city for directions goes away. For new players it is great. As a current player, I don't think I will ever use it. Most players remember the pain of being lost in Lorville. There is value in the pain. You learn your environment the same way you would in real life. The more that automation makes it where a player doesn't have to think that much, the less of a sim it becomes. There are probably holes in this idea but worth exploring.
Overall great review!, Disagree with elevator quick buttons etc. This does away with some of the simulation tedium that adds to the charm of the game

You know it's slow going when a mini map is a big deal... when I can make it through a session without the game crashing I'll give it a try again.

The server crashed, I rebooted my game, and it spawned me back in at the exact spot, with my Mobi Glass still up on the same page where it was when it crashed. very cool

@2:58 I like actually having to interact with a world that 1) doesn't cater to me as the center of the universe, and 2) doesn't pretend the player-character has 'psychic powers.' There is still some of that in SC, and I want it gone. lol
only getting 10- 20fps anywhere in the patch, in live i get normally 40-70fps in most areas. something is wrong with the shaders i think, heard they have changed the way to do the shaders...could be a bug with it.
