  • It is not possible to incarcerate the addict out of someone. It is a health issue, not criminal in nature.

  • Shackling a woman who just had a c-section to a bed is absolutely crazy. Honestly, how far do they think she will get if she tried to escape?

  • Anyone in prison for nonviolent drug offenses need to be rehabilitated not thrown in prison, the systems in this country are so backwards.

  • People should start talking about the Industral Prison Complex. There is no interest in rehabilitation. Just storing people and receiving funding from the State for incarceration.

  • Those moments after your baby is born, you can never get it back and it is so precious. Your baby needs you, to feel you, smell you and just be with you. I really feel for women who miss out on this

  • In Mexico, if mothers are pregnant and have to deliver in jail, the baby can stay til it turns 5 years old, then goes with a near relative or with the child protection system. I can't imagine for the women in the United States that you have to break that bond so soon. If things are broken, don't turn them to dust.

  • Angelica is so articulate and understands her emotions quite well. I hope she grows up to do great things and one day come to terms with everything. Such a sweet girl.

  • Prison is no place for people suffering with addiction. For non violent crimes people need support to get to the root causes of their addiction and then help towards recovery

  • People are just obsessed with punishing people, even though all it does is keep the cycle going. It's idiotic and self-defeating. These people need treatment and support, not prison!

  • A lot of people on here are defending these women. I was a child who had a mom in prison most of my childhood and it affected me but I dnt blame anyone but my mom for the decisions she made. Yall need to start holding people accountable for the choices they make.

  • The best part of this is how it affirms the value of motherhood in society. So beautiful to see such powerful effects that come from mothers staying with their babies!

  • another example of the US putting profit over people. Yes, they committed a crime, but is the punishment fair? Why do we treat non-violent offenders so harshly, has this provided better outcomes for society? It always goes back to profit vs doing and making decisions that are best for society.
