    • You could but they are braided nails, so they are much much harder to get out. Often it ends up damaging the wood and is very time consuming.

  • It looks so easy the way you got the pallet and dismantled it and used the boards to build a bed. I would actually need to work with someone to learn how to do that and it’s worth it. You could build your own beds and that can save you a lot of money. I enjoy watching your channel as a matter of fact I am going to get started planting some vegetables thanks to you. I have been wanting to grow my own food for a while now but watching you mix your own soil and you practically showed us everything we need to buy and use to do your own garden. I really appreciate your videos and I do live in a house in Tennessee and I have a good size yard so I plan on having at least three beds in my back yard to grow food. Your dog is the first dog I seen eat radishes and he is such a sweet animal.

    • There's this Danish or Norwegian chap on youtube who shows you how to take apart a pallet without splitting the wood and without power tools, just need a heavy (ish) mallet and a crowbar or prybar. As for cutting the wood, you can cut them using a hand saw but need to use a mitre box to cut a perfect 90 degree cut on the ends. Plastic mitre boxes cost a few dollars (I'm in UK and you can get one for £4.99 here). Will need a few clamps though and they aren't cheap either, but find a friend who will lend you some and you're good to go :)

  • It's not really free because of the screws and the saw blade used to cut the nails initially but it's still a great idea which is why I've been doing it for years. I take the time to break them down by prying the boards off so I can use everything. Linseed oil works good for preservation of the wood as long as it's done every years.

    • Definitely check 😊! I have a relative who works at a manufacturing facility and she has brought me dozens of pallets over the years, some better than others. They don't all need to be perfect because there is always some usable wood. So far I've made four large raised beds from pallets, about 4' x 8'. The first two I made don't look as nice as the one James just put together but still holding up after four years. That's a good return for a weekend project that cost me only time and a box of screws!

  • This was an excellent idea and so simple! I have a lot of deer here in Washington State. I could attach some chicken wire or netting to this box as well! You are lucky to have all the perfect tools, but I could make do with what I have. I can't wait to try. Thank you so much!

  • was able to make mine 3x larger using old cedar fencing, 4x4 corners, 2x4 braces. Doubled up the fence boards & a 2x4 around the top makes a handy sitting area. Lined it with weedblock fabric. Good video🤩

  • I have no woodwork experience but I think you're a great teacher and an inspiration. I subscribed and I hope to make personalised things like these when I am settled soon some day and perhaps learn woodwork✰

  • I’ve never done any woodworking before but you made this all make so much sense! Thank you. This was an excellent 101 class and I hope to someday put it into practice! And I really really appreciate the advice to just cut around the nails rather than suffer through the crowbar. That makes it so much more approachable for an intimidated newbie (me!) and more accessible for anyone with hand problems (sometimes me.)

  • Don’t forget the hardware cloth as flooring before the dirt so that voles and moles stay out. Just a suggestion with the added on cost. Great DIY!

  • This came out so awesomely done. Love watching your videos and Tuck in the summer with his carrots 🥕 and veggies. He’s so cute! Happy dog! 🐾 FYi: you’re really really doing the video for people who get encouraged and they could see is very easy and cheap and free to do this mini garden bed) .But at the same time people don’t have the machinery to cut these things will be nice maybe you could sell these things like a kit with the screws of course (diy mini garden bed) for cheap price since you get it for free even if you can sell it for $10 or $15 + shipping. I think ppl would like this. 🤔🧐 from Pennsylvania! Happy Gardening 👩🏻‍🌾

  • This is great!! I have been bugging my husband to build raised beds and he has been a pain about it. With money really being tight and wanting to use a garden to ease grocery costs, this momma is definetly gonna get some raised garden beds this year now that I have seen this! Thanks for the great instruction because now I can do it without waiting for my hubbie to help!!

    • Dude never let lack of wood stop you. Facebook marketplace. Construction site dumpsters. Dude they had a roofing company sorking on a church roof down the street this early spring. I scavenged twelve foot 2x5s out of their dumpster. I never leave the house without my ratcheting straps. Pick stuff up off the side of the road. There are free supies everywhere. Literally.
