Demi-Chess is a chess variant that is played using just the right half of the board. Every rule of chess still applies, and things get pretty interesting.

Now do the other side where you win when you capture the queen. Although it's probably prone to draws
it's probably VERY prone to draws tbh
Let players keep playing if they still have pawns then, as long as they can make a queen they haven't lost.
@@bestevil. that's even more draw-ish lol

To show you the power of flex tape, i sawed this chess board in half!
stolen
@@Noobpopcan Ever thought about the fact that people can have the same thoughts 🤯🤯🤯

This tiny board makes me feel claustrophobic.
Like a king in a smothered checkmate
Strangely, this actually feels weirdly cozy. Idk
My brother and I would play this but we didn't want to omit any pieces so we used all of them. Having two rows of pawns starting out right in front of each other lead to a lot of pieces being captured fast
That sounds fun but I don’t have a board
@@Genericyoutubefan yeah I can't remember the exact piece layout we used but there isn't a single empty space on the square meaning that white has to capture on their first move
Now that's a lotta damage!
I was extremely temped to put that clip in the intro lmao
Now can you duplicate the chess board and merge it to the side?
It would be interesting if you did a version where the other half of the board (with the queens) matters somehow. A couple ideas: - Kings and Queens can't leave their side of the board, but everything else can cross like normal. - Play both halves of the board simultaneously until a checkmate, stalemate, or draw happens on one side. However if the position of the whole board isn't a checkmate, stalemate, or draw, play continues like regular chess.
You know it would be interesting if there was a format where you did this but knights can jump to the other board Rooks, bishops, queen could maybe do that too but not more than 1 space on the other board if they do?
i've come up with this by myself and called it "mini-chess"
This has been an idea since the start of chess bro, you did not come up with it unless you are Ronich Manduel, who is dead
@@TheOnly2nd i invented it when i was like 7 or something without knowing much about chess besides how the pieces move
@@jayman1462 ohh i thought you were claiming you were the original inventor lol sry
Definitely a case of convergent design.
@@TheOnly2nd ah. you're good
Make it so that the board is divided horizontally
Here, I have calculated the piece values of each piece since no one else has Pawn: 1 (0.5 accurately) 1.96875 average piece view Bishop: 2.4126984127 (1.2 accurately), 4.75 average piece view Rook: 5.0793650794 (2.5 accurately), 10 average piece view, same for each square Knight: 2.0317460317 (1 accurately), 4 average piece view King: 2.6031746032 (1.3 accurately), 5.125 average piece view Queen: 7.4920634921 (4.25 accurately), 14.125 average piece view
now cut it in half the other way, where you both control 1 color, whoever captures the last piece wins
I'm kinda new here, and to chess meta. How are you able to move your pawn that many spaces forward in order to promote in a single move? Are there some turns in-between that I'm missing? 3:40
I must have cut it out because I wasn't talking. It's usually fine because a couple of pieces change places during the jump-cut, but this time it looked confusing because my opponent shuffled his king around and ended up in the exact same spot after the cut
@@GreenLemonGamesok that makes sense. I got really excited for a second there. "Pawns can do that?! That changes everything" lol
Divorce opening
Would like one with the other 4 pieces positioned on rank 2 with pawns on rank 3 (no double jump?). The rooks would be on opposite sides but different ranks. The queen starts in front of rook on the king's rank. Might be drawish since you've got 2 bishops on the same colour, an opposite colour of the opponent.
I was considering a similar setup! My idea was RQKR on the first rank, NBBN on the second, then pawns on the 3rd. I wanted to use the existing setup though, at least for this video.
@@GreenLemonGames Oh yeah that is a nice way to do it. I like the current set up since shares an elegant factor with Ed Trice's Gothic Chess: in Gothic Chess the leftmost chunk of the board and rightmost chunk are preserved, with the middle chunk differing from regular chess since the fairy pieces are beside the king. Hence RNBK and QBNR feel nice (maybe an invocation of the "processing fluency theory of aesthetic pleasure"). Other than differing bishop colours, your considered set up with the knights at the edges would make their first move more satisfying than if the knights started in the middle with bishops on the edges.
Great video! Which side are you playing this on?
To show you the power of Flex Tape... I sawed this Chess board in half!
I loved this video Ɛ>
No chess attack video? (5x6 chess, basically the same as this tho..)
What good is castling in this case? your king is already tucked in the corner and castling just swaps it into another corner but closer to middle
You should've sawed the clock in half too 😅
Kicks
flex tape can't solve that problem
Try doing it with The other half but if you kill the Q for queen 👸
neat
I don’t see a reason to calculate a bishop+rook to trade a rook tho😅
Wow it's not too different
try and diagonally split the board :>
🎉
What about pentagonal chess?
Can you play Chess On A Really Big Board with this engine?
Yes! There is technically no limit
@@GreenLemonGames You can design custom pieces and all?
@RandomBurfness I don't have any non-standard/fairy pieces in the game yet, but I will definitely be adding some
